Small place and felt like a local's local.
Handy for the train station but I probably wouldn't visit again.
5/10

Gave the old place another go. Looked exactly the same as last year, just shabbier. Sadly the room bar was going off. We drank up and moved on, probably won't return to this end of town.
After visiting a few in the centre, I came here as it had one of the best scores on this site.
Shows that you never can tell.
It was all the things the last reviewer said. With very broken sofas.
Beer was nothing special.
Not worth the walk.
small, dirty, drafty, smelly, cold ini winter - but people love it, never seems to be quiet - ale is ok but nothing out of the ordinary, wait I have it - the ale is cheap! Worth a stop on a crawl as the previous reviewer stated as it is just a pub and doesn't pretend to be anything else.
This pub doesn't look much from the outside. But the small interior is well worth a visit. It has the feel of an Irish bar (not sure if it is). 3 ales were on - Sharps Doom Bar & Hopback Summer Lightning & GFB. Cider was Addlestones. Worth a stop on any Salisbury crawl.
Untidy looking pub from the outside ,but inside very nice .2 Ales on but stuck to Warsteiner worth a visit.
3 ales on ,Kozal and Warsteiner Lager on.Friendly pub and very well priced.
Don't let the outside put you off it's a decent pub inside with 3 cask ales on when I visited. It also advertises having a good range of bottled beers.

Hopback GFB amd Summer Lightening plus Doombar yesterday. GFB was OK (ish) but reasonably priced at 2.40.
Doesn't open until 1630 during the week. Very much a locals place despite being near to the station.
Beer was cheap, didn't think much of the HopBack Beer or the Doom Bar. Nice friendly locals though!!
Pub No.2 on my Salisbury visit. Three pumps serving Hopback GFB and Summer Lightning and Sharps Doom Bar. Had a couple of excellent pints of GFB - 2.30 a pint, 90 pence cheaper than the Haunch of Venison and vastly superior. The pub has a traditional, basic interior and a nice atmosphere and is handily paced near the railway station for a last pint before catching your train.
Fantastically busy on a Sat eve the first week in Jan 2011 when I visited. 2 Hop Back beers and Doom Bar on when I was in, beer in good condition. 7/10
A rough & ready town bar with a front lower bar for drinking/conversing and an upper bar for football/racing on telly. They have a new pale blue sign which makes it look more like an estate agents from across the road. Hop Back Ligthning, GBG and Doom Bar on offer. Had a good pint of GBG. Handy for the station.

Gets the coveted 10/10 from Padre J for excellent customer service. Doombar at 2.20 was had. However it was noted on taste to be not great, but before a complaint could be raised the Scots landlord bellowed across the room "Is that not clearing laddie?". It was returned and with apologies and great haste a new barrel was put on and the replacement was brought to the table. This is the way service should be. Well well done. For the record GBF and Summer Lightning were also on,with Tom Robinson wailing from the speakers, and a telly up the back was showing racing.
The phot is out of date (the sign is now blue) but the beer remains fresh. Usually a Hopback beer or two plus a guest.
Last port of call before the station - having already been into the Frothblowers and left without getting a drink due to some intimidating idiots who were trying to turn the pub into a gypsy camp - plus the Haunch for a decent but expensive Courage Best. At last, a place with decent people and fair prices.
The Deacons is as good as ever judging from my visit last week, the large sign over the door has been removed which may catch out the hard of thinking.

I think this pub has closed down or now has a new name. Unless I am totally oblivious to what is going on.
Nothing fancy about the Deacons that's for sure, just a great range of excellent beers, good bunch of locals in dark but interesting surroundings. Beers from Sharps, and Hopback plus draught San Mig and Amstel, some interesting bottles lurking in the fridge.

home! the best pub in salisbury by a long stretch. excellent beers, freindly regulars, surly barstaff, creaky floorboards, toiletseats with fish in them....
A real gem - a proper drinker's pub. Good beer, welcoming atmosphere, no nonsense, what more can you ask for?
Good Beer even though i lost miserably at a game of table football ;-( 7/10
We left this one until last on our brief spin round the real ale pubs of Salisbury and it was a great place to finish before catching the train. This pub has a welcoming atmosphere but is larger than you think when you find the back room. The old table football machine kept us amused for ages.
I forget which beers were available now but they were very nice and I'd love to come back here to taste them again some time.
Summer Lightning, GFB, and well-kept Doombar, the latter at just 2pint. Rustic, slightly draughty front bar area with small open fire, narrow corridor past loos to larger rear room with two small chesterfield style sofas, tables & banquette seating, tv, plasma, & nice old bar-football table, covered smoking area outdoors beyond this. Friendly & chatty welcome from bar & locals. Good luck with your horse next time!
Great boozer. If you are visiting Salisbury, make sure you visit this pub.
Beer is always good. Pub is fairly basic but that is no bad thing in my opinion. Pub is quite narrow but it stretches back to a quieter drinking area at the rear.
Made the mistake earlier of going into the Kings Head (Wetherspoons) and then made my way up here to regain some sanity. Good ale as usual - and in lined glasses.
Much better than it looks outside. The back bar is quiet even when the front is crowded. Nice selection of ales. Best pub by the station since the Bird in Hand closed.
formerly my favourite boozer in Salisbury, before I moved up here permanently 18 months ago. The ale is always well-kept, and if you're into your lager the Amstel is excellent, too. Everything is super-cheap in here. With the sole exception of landlord Frank, who's a nice bloke with great taste in music, afraid all the other regular staff are varying degrees of rude and/or surly. The shabbiness is beyond a joke now, too. If you think the paintwork was intended to be burnished yellow, it wasn't. Fail to see how a lick of paint would adversely alter this place's 'character'. If you love your beer and crave a friendly reception, walk a liitle way out of town and go to The Village on Wilton Road - doubt whether you'll regret it!
Wanted to try the Kings Arms across the road but they dont open Sunday evenings so Deacons it was to while away an hour before our restaurant booking. A small locals pub with drinkers usually smoking near the doorway whenever we passed and more of the same inside which was a pity. 4 ales available of which I recognised 3 (2 were Hop Back which I'm not keen on) so I had a taster of the 4th which didn't appeal so settled for an excellent pint of Doombar
Great pub selling good range of beers and lagers at low prices without compromising quality.
Bar staff are excellent, but avoid Sunday afternoons as you'll have to wait while the barmaid finishes sending her text message!!!!!
A great pub, well worth a visit (when its open!). A good range of beers (Cheriton, Sharpes etc as well as the usual for this area Hopback brews), well kept and very reasonably priced. The front bar is small and has the feel of a local's pub. A small flight of stairs leads to a back room which is decorated with various boat related paraphenalia and has a large television for sport and a table football. Well worth avisit if you are returning from the town to the railway station.
We often pay a visit on a Saturday lunchtime. The barman is super efficient - a necessity since the bar is tiny in comparison with the overall size of the pub which extends back into a large "games" area. Beers are excellent, usually some Hop Back, Triple fff and/or Cheriton. The Deacons has a lively, friendly feel to it without being too noisy. Highly recommended.
Feels like a real drinking den. Some would probably regard it as shabby and downmarket but the service was good and the atmosphere friendly, and the beer even better at less than 2 a pint to boot - I think it was Triple fff Alton's Pride - my memory was a bit hazy azfter a lengthy tour of the city!
very good beer and some of the best prices in town
A proper pub, not one of those loathsome chains.
Anywhere that you can have a pint and play table top football (and be beaten...) is worth a night out.
Best thing about Deacs? The semi-resident photographer.

A proper pub, except when the TV is on. Best thing about Deacon's? The friendly bar staff, especially the chatty dark haired barman who always has a kind word for the customers.

A great local. Don't say you don't like real ale until you've tried the beer here! A great start to an evening out (you might want to stay!)

Fantastic atmosphere, in a good location about 2 mins from the station. Great range of beers. Its one of the only pubs you can buy a round of 7 drinks and get significant change from 20!
