The barman apologised last night for the recent price increase, which now sees a good pint of Old Brewery Bitter at 1.52 in this pleasant multi-roomed GBG pub. There's a fire towards the back.

There isnt many pubs were you can sit and have a beer and watch the shire dray horses in there stables! But you can here. And they diliver to local Sam Smiths pubs . A good spot, we were made welcome, and the beer is good, especially the Old Brewery and the stout. Panelled walls and ajoining the brewery not many pubs do that! We went on a sunday pm and it was quite full, but got served quickly. Didnt have the food we not keen on it in Sam Smiths pubs. Well worth a visit + lots more S Smiths in the town. Recommended. Friendly locals.

With OBB at 1.43 a pint you cannot go wrong.
THe pub has a nice atmosphere and you have the view out to the brewery yard and the stables.
Just past the brewery offices is a delicatessan/off-sales with full range of Sam's bottled beers including the fruit beers from Melbourne's brewery in Stamford.

Called in here the other day when passing through Tadcaster. Coming from East Anglia this is the first time I've ever managed to find Samuel Smiths on draught, also its nice to see a town that isn't completely overrun by Greene King! This is a good pub for drinkers, the SS Old Brewery Bitter was superb, just wish they'd put some of their other beers on handpump rather than freezing cold smoothflow taps!! Food was definitely microwaved as it came too quickly to be anything else, and the mash potato looked / tasted suspiciosly like the instant variety... however the pub itself is very pleasant, elegant wood panelled interior and comfortable seats. A nice atmosphere to sit and drink / chat in.

The 3rd pub out of 3 that gives you the "Slaughtered Lamb" look when you walk through the door in Tadcaster......this one has enough internal characterisics though to ignore the North Yorky mob.....Good Pint

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is Alpine lager. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. Mind you I only drink Alpine lager to make other people seem more interesting, you will know what I mean if you have met my wife, Tina.
Along time ago my father said to me "Son, a woman is like a lager. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one. You want to drink another woman! He was right, it was a woman who drove me to drink and I never got the chance to thank her.
After a good night out an Irish Coffee is the perfect breakfast because it contains all four of the essential food groups:- fat, sugar, caffeine and alcohol. I feel sorry for all those people who don't drink. They wake up in the morning and that's the best they're going to feel all day.
After coming home from the pub drunk the other night I came home to find my mother in law was visiting. The old witch said to me Russell, if you were my husband, I'd poison your tea! After thinking for a short while I replied and said. Yes and if you were my wife, I would drink it! I dont really get on with her too well as you can probably tell.
I once saw six men punching and kicking my mother-in-law. The wife said; Aren't you going to help? I said; No, six should be enough!
One final thing, take a tip from me never accept a drink from a urologist!

Yes not a bad pub shame about the microve pies but it is sam smiths

A very nice public house. The lager was certainly cheap enough; well it should be, because it tasted like the manageress had urinated in it.
I was in this establishment with my wife who had some kind of pie and chips to eat. This is because she is a pie eater and has the belly to prove it. She said that the food was "cooked" in a mircoware oven and pot noodles and lard would have tasted better. She sends her compliments to the microwave button presser.
On balance the highlight of my visit that I enjoyed the most was the smell of the toilets. Some peasant had deposited a pile of excetia on one of the toilet seats.
My compliments to mine hosts Monika and Colin.

Hey Johnny 333, I'm not that old, I just enjoy a few pints of Mild! As you say, it's a bit quiet.
|
Took notice of mikeupd report on the Angel,it is actually a nice pub his comments suggest he is really a very old man looking for a cheap pint of mild.A bit of entertainment would not go amiss
|
Sadly the home made meals are only available on Sunday, instead there is the 'standard range' of offerings. Pity; but the Best Mild @ 1.19 a pint partly made up for the disappointment. I think johnny333 needs to go to a Spoonies for his wants!

Called in and found the usual SS beers and home made spirits? Wheres the tv and music, very confused. This company is living in the past food was ok

At last I managed to spend a few hours in Tadcaster. I couldn't visit the town without a pilgrimage to The Angel & White Horse. Friendly staff & locals. It's a pure delight. Shire horse in the adjoining stable, roaring fire in a very large grate, oak paneled bar area with lots of places to sit..... and Old Brewery Bitter at 1.26/pint! The large hot lunch (dinner if you must) was a real steal 5.25. I will be back here very soon. A real gem. 10 out of 10.

I can't travel through this area without popping in for a pint of bitter, (which is always in brilliant condition), and very cheap, even for upp north!, shame it's 200 miles from my house! Great Pub!
|
"Least Expensive Pint In England" "1.24pnd". Make sure you go for lunch, great home cooked meals. Lunch is served until 2:00pm. Always fresh beer being its connected to the Sam Smith Brewery. Too bad the Yorshire Greys aren't housed there anymore.
|
Must surely have one of the biggest open fires of any pub in the country ? Usually busy, which is hardly surprising given the cheapness and quality of the beers. Worth looking through the left hand side windows to see if the brewery's (white) shire horses are in the stable !
|
Excellent pint of OBB although I suppose if they can't get it right here they never will. Also 1.22 a pint which is attractive even by Sam Smith's standards. Huge fire on a cold dayThe food is very Yorkshire - "nowt fancy" but warming , filling and exceptional value. Half an hour on the bus from Leeds - worth the trip.
|
After we toured the Sam Smith brewery (thanks, Simon) we saundered over to their signature pub and enjoyed a round of all the Sam Smith varieties. Of course, I am partial to the real ale-Old Brewery Bitter which is excellent-but the pub was a great experience. Friendly barstaff and good atmosphere. It has a nice wood-finished interior with outside seating available. Also has a very good lunch buffet.
|
An excellent pub, has served me and friends well over the years. It has always been worth a short bus journey to get to a pub with such a good atmosphere, and at such cheap prices no Yorkshireman can resist. It's always good to point out that your favourite pub appears on the beer mat of your favourite pint, too..

The show pub for samual smiths but every time i've been in the lager alway's taste's like it's got washing up liquid in it.
