Excellent buzzy community local. Well worth a visit.

As excellent as you would expect of any pub that plies Titanic ales. The Plum Porter was divine as usual and various others were on including Iceberg and Steerage - a very harsh quibble would be to highlight the lack of the brewery's Dark Cherry, Raspberry Wheat Beer and Chocolate and Vanilla Stout on the day we were there. Some great guest ales too and the full Titanic range is available to buy by the bottle along with Plum Porter chutney. To top it off, a steak and plum porter pie was carried off with brio - all human life is here and it's worth travelling half the length of the country to visit - which we did.

Great home cooked food an excellent range of ales. The girl behind the bar was a bit miserable so a point off there but overall fantastic.

Excellent and popular pub. Wide selection of good beers mostly from the Titanic brewery--which I'd not come across before. Good food; I had a nicely done steak and chips (and the chips looked like they really had once been potatoes) and while it does good food it hasn't forgotten it's primarily a pub. Serving beer. Thoroughly recommended.

Went to Buxton today for the football and found this pub via the good beer guide, a comfortable pub with friendly staff and a good selection of real ales in excellent condition, i didnt eat but the food being served looked very good, an excellent pub well worth visiting and one i shall certainly be returning to.

Without a doubt the best pub in Buxton, 10 real ales on with 6 coming from titanic brewery. The food is also reasonably priced and the staff are welcoming and friendly. The only problem I have with this pub is its not close enough to Buxton town centre. It's really worth the walk and if you like your real ales you should make this a must visit.

10 ales on now. half of which are Titanic. best traditonal pub in Buxton?

We did a grand tour of Buxton pubs - not getting past the door of most of them because of the No Dogs rules. This was about the fourth we tried and our enquiry warmly and postively greated. Looks like a great music venue inside and I enjoyed the lunchtime jukebox of "woking class hero". Nice lunch, excellent speckled hen.

From the outside its a traditional looking pub. For some strange reason there are warning signs all over the windows telling football supporters they are not welcome. Inside it has been changed into a music venue. Large, open plan with bare floorboards & music posters. GK IPA & Abbot Ale. Personally I found the place a bit stark & uninviting.

Home-cooked food at a decent price. Children`s area away from drinkers area. Strange taste in background music but seemed to be used by strangers and locals in numbers.

Was in Buxton on business and called in for a quick drink at about 9pm on Thursday. Found a friendly pub, good service, and despite being on my own was soon made to feel part of the crowd. Furthermore, I was pleased to find a free quiz night (with decent prize money) free raffle, and even sandwiches! If you're in Buxton, call in to the Cheese, you won't be disappointed!

Tlhis may not be fair, but walked in at lunchtime over Christmas, strong smell of cigarette smoke, no smell of food, lots of single men sitting alone and no conversation going on - didn't find it welcoming, so left. Looked really good from the outside, perhaps we just arrived on a bad day.
