Not often these days you see a pub that's still a lot of little rooms rather then one bif open plan bar. I rather liked it.
Mostly a standard selection of Marston's beers, but there's nothing wrong with that and the food was good too. Standard pub grub mostly but quite well done, Twist my arm and I'd say I prefer the Cheshire Cheese just up the road but this is very nearly as good,.

Well, it looks like a really nice pub, full of character etc etc. but the one barmaid on duty seemed oblivious to our presence. We walked around the entire pub trying to attract her attention but we might as well have been invisible. Who ever manages this pub should take note if he wishes to actually sell any beer. We went to the Cheese a few yards up and had a real good session.
By the way we went in at 13:30 ish Sunday July 2nd. 2012

Spent several night in here whilst visiting Buxton as it is the best of the pubs along this road. Quite dark, but full of character and a couple of nice little snugs to sit in. Always got a few good ales on, though there isn't a huge selection of drinks behind the bar; for example there is no Sambuca, and if you don't get there early enough they often seem to run out of Malibu!!!!!!! Other than that, great place, the staff are excellent and they do a great quiz on Sunday night.

Paid a visit on two consecutive nights had Marstons both nights a well kept pint. A multi roomed pub with several rooms off. We sat in the main room low ceiling original beams a real fire but was not on. Seating was a bit uncomfortable unless you could get in the big comfy armchair near the fire. Did not eat here but several of people were ordering food or had eaten so it must be popular. Nice ale recomended

Lovely olde worlde pub with small windows & low beams. Dark woods & a maze of interesting rooms give the whole place a cosy, Dickensian feel. Small beer terrace at the front. I think there were about 4 handpumps with Marston's EPA & a couple of other interesting looking ales.

Multi-roomed splendour (albeit modernised), and very good Marstons range.
|
We found The Old Sun atmosphere pretty average. The range of ales was large, but the condition was only just acceptable and the price was high. My Wife's cajun chicken was OK, but my 'light bite' beef steak was about 5mm thick, so any attempt to cook it other than well done was doomed to failure.

Good choice of ales, food was excellent. As others have said everything somewhat on the expensive side.

Not quite as cosy as I recall a few years back and yes, VERY PRICEY

visited for first time with long lost friends not seen for 4 years. Had a very nice meal in an excellent enviroment - waitress was first class and food good - a good choice of real ales.
despite finishing meal reasonably early we were allowed to remain in the area and left at 12.30 am (not pushed out either)
An excellent evening all round

Only visited lunchtimes (over Christmas 2005) lovely pub, conventional pub meals menu, tables really low - knee level - some tables had setees which I suppose would bring you down to table level but we didn't get one which put us off a bit for future visits. (Light bites menu offered scampi but you only get four, which I think is a bit too light)

Really nice pub. used to be much cosier in the left side with big comfy chairs and an open fire but this has been changed to dining tables.shame. My only problem with this pub is that it is way too expencive.
