Stayed here years ago in 2003, and loved the location. The view over the millpond to Salisbury cathedral is breathtaking, possibly one of the best in Britain. The walk over the water meadows is also iconic. I hadn't visited since, but pleased to say it hasn't changed. It's a Greene king pub, and had Abbot and (St.Austell) Tribute beers, which I ordered from a lovely garden bar. A pleasure as everything from Sept 22nd is now table service. Hope I'm reviewing this again 15 years later, but don't hold your breath as the world seems hell bent on shutting itself down in all forms.

Nice pub in great location. Car parking limited. Ales good, Lancaster bomber was good. Food average.

Stayed here. Olde Worlde hotel experience. Everything was as you would expect and a decent breakfast.
The pub is perfect - low beams - couple of real ales - Abbot and Speckled Hen. I was hoping for a local speciality. Beer fine. Staff great. Superb location for views across to the cathedral

Called in last Saturday evening about 10 o clock, and the place was dead, about 10 customers. The Wetherspoons pub across the road had customers queuing to get in - something not right. Beer was good, had a variety of places to sit down, could not understand what was wrong - but lack of people means lack of atmosphere which probably then means less customers

Forgot to mention, the garden area has some nice logs that the kids had great fun clambering over. Careful though as it isn't really that safe and one of the seats has a great big nail-head sticking out of it

Nice setting amongst the waterways, plenty to see. Food wasn't great though.

Beautiful setting in the water meadows, a good stopping off point if you do a circular walk, as we did. The tables at the front overlooking the millpond were all full and it was hot (June 2nd), so we say out the back in a lovely little garden right by the water. Good place for twitchers to sit!
Decent enough pint, didn't sample the food though.

A decent enough place for a pint, great views of the water meadows while idly watching the dogs, ducks and swans in the water.
It is a GK house, but there is Guinness on tap as a safe reserve, and a small selection of ciders.
Seems dog friendly, the Westie sat panting on a window sill while intently watching his owner eat lunch seemed happy enough anyway.

Beautiful location but a rather underwhelming pub. Okay, there are many way worse than this but it just didn't seem to make the most of its natural advantages. The garden, although obviously popular just seemed a little scruffy and on the consumables front, my baked potato was burnt and my Abbot not well kept. Have given it a comparatively high rating (7) based purely on its location but as a pub, deduct 3.
Needs a kick up the backside.

It would be hard to find a pub in such an idyllic and picturesque setting, gazing across the water meadows to Salisbury Cathedral as the River Nadder pours through the 3 mill races into the large pond inhabited by mallards and swans. Parts of the building date back to around 1135 and it was converted to a paper mill in the mid 16th century. Whilst the pub itself is sited in the old Mill building, the restaurant now extends across to the Victorian warehouse next door where the river can be seen flowing underneath through a viewing window. The pub consists of 2 fairly small beamed rooms with flagstone floors and what does like a fairly modern brick fireplace although I couldn�t help be a little underwhelmed with the interior overall. Of course it is on balmy summer�s days that the pub comes into its own with a sizeable beer garden next to the river at the back and benches on the front terrace overlooking the pond. 3 Greene King Ales available (IPA, Speckled Hen and Abbott) and if one does have to endulge in Greene King products, then the Old Mill is probably about as good as you can get to do it.

Very atmospheric old pub with 2 ales on. I enjoyed the Old Speckled Hen and a chat with some of the locals. Didn't try the food but may well do in future.
Best pub in Harnham and well worth dropping into on a sunny day by the watermeadows.

What a shame that this lovely old building and setting next the mill stream & pond are in the hands of greedy king. Arrived to find ducks & swans swimming around a few yards from the pub doorway, some picnic sets outside allowing an open view of this idyllic scene. It is a hotel (& I think I saw 12c mentioned in some blurb) and has a rather nice looking restaurant I peeked into behind a door labelled grainstore, but the bar itself is accessed straight from the approach road. Ipa, Abbot, OSH, free papers to peruse, more outside seating to the rear where the stream is calmer. Just beyond the pub frontage, a neighbouring cottage has an archway that provides a perfect frame for a long distance photo of Salisbury cathedral in the distance. Very nice, but get some guest ale!

Being a Salisbury girl I visit my mother at least once a month. My husband and I usually like to drop in to The old Mill for drinks on the way home. We are becoming increasingly concerned with the animals which are allowed in the bar with their owners who seem to be permanent residents. The dogs (very often two or three) are running in and out and have very often been in the river. They come into the bar, allowed to run around, paws on chairs and windowsills. People are eating here and we do not think this is hygienic and I am quite sure this does not come under your health and safety policy for the bar area, therefore we now usually sit outsite also because I have a lung complaint and the air is usually very smoky

Beautiful setting. I visited from the U.S. in May of 2005 and spent the good part of a Sunday afternoon sitting at an outside table overlooking the river. The kitchen was closed when I was there so I couldn't get anything to eat but the beer was good and the staff was friendly.

Lovely setting, very cosy. very attractive staff. nice atmosphere and garden.
