Huge pub, subsequently it always feels empty even when I've been in there to watch the football. Sells Greene King IPA but that's not always on, so had to drink Coors last time.
|
Staff are friendly and beer is ok but have eaten in here twice and both times its taken an hour to get food when the place has been near on empty. Not bad, but dont order food unless you have a lot of time to spare.
|
Have slightly mixed feelings on O'Neils - it can look very lonely sometimes and feel a little sterile due to its size, but the beer and ale available is always of good quality and on many occasions I have had their sizzling breakfast which is very tasty and reasonably priced. Other times I have eaten there I have found the food to be good as well. Bar staff friendly, no doubt I will return

I use this pub nearly every week for a drink before I move on. It's a bit of weird one is O'neills. Due to its size it becomes very easy to look empty a lot of the time. They do reasonable food and there's no doubting its excellence as a venue for watching sport. The giant screen hanging from the heavens means that you can still see it no matter how busy it is. On the negative side, as soon as it gets really busy it becomes almost impossible to get a drink. The staff seem to spend a lot of time hovering around the kitchen end of the bar. They need to introduce a zonal marking system behind the bar. I don't know if it's a result of the recession but they never seem to have enough staff. They are also now doing regular live music which is really good. On the whole you get a good crowd and no little oiks.
|
I have been there a number of times lately and it never disappoints. The bar staff are very friendly and even at the busiest of time you are not waiting that long to get served, unlike Lloyds where I have given up many times.
The woman bouncer is one of the funniest and friendliest I have ever come across. We popped in 1 evening to find they hadn't any Guinness (this was during the snow period). We had a Guinness Red and then left. She asked us why we were leaving so early. She was amazed at our reason, no Guiness and we had a right laugh.
They have regular bands on and there is never any trouble there. It has a great atmosphere which is helped by the traditional pub interior and moody lighting.
As I have mentioned before the worst thing about the place is its toilets. The mens are worse than a train stations.
If you are out near Market Square then this is the best pub to go to.
|
i agree cant believe this pub does'nt have a later license, its by far the best boozer in brom, good music, great atmosphere and a good night out, sometimes you can be waiting at the bar a while for a drink, large screen for footi as well.
|
I LOVE ONeills Bromley at the weekend! it is a shame there are not more pubs like this to bring more people to Bromley town centre, it is the only place with no attitude in Bromley, but still cheap wine and food!
I agree toilets need a refurb. It needs to stay open later than 11pm too, it is keeping more people from coming and ends a good night far too early!
|
I have been there a few times lately and I must say that it is probably the best pub in the town centre. It always has a very welcoming atmosphere and the bar staff are very welcoming. Usually they are smiling when serving you and also make conversation. It's great to see bar staff that enjoy their jobs and make an effort to make each visit fun and enjoyable.
It never disappoints. However like other Bromley Town pubs at the weekend it has got a little quieter at the weekends. I hope we don't loose this one to the recession. Saying that it was surprisingly busy in the evening of last Thursday.
I wish they would treat us to new toilets though as they are worse that station ones.
|
Yes I agree that it is crazy that O'neills closes at 11 on a Saturday. Despite the bad reviews this pub gets it is a really good pub. It's grubbly, dark and a bit seedy. Eveything you would expect from a good pub.
It has a very good atmosphere any night you go. The clientle are very chilled and friendly. At the weekends it is one of the best pubs (if you want it busy, fun and loud) around.
It is let down by it's toilets though. I forgot they have the toilet guy at the weekends. How annoying. The male toilets are disgusting. Railway toilets are far better than these. You could shoot a good horror film in these.
For a good late night pub in Bromley the Star and Garter is open until 12 every night of the week and 1 at the weekends. Great dance music and good fun. It is a gay pub and it's great. It gets busy late though.
|
Went here for the first time the other week on a Saturday night. Not bad, damn big place. Full of dancing young strumpets to keep you entertained. Had one of those bloody bog trolls though, but at least this one had some humour, with such lines as
No splash, no gash No Armani, no poonani No water, no daughter
Great. So we settled in, racked up the drinks, had a few shots to get the night going, then stared at each other in amazement when the lights came on 11pm
What??? You've got a mazzive pub packed to the rafters, AND YOU CLOSE AT 11 ON A SATURDAY NIGHT????????
I thought it was against the law for an O'Neills to close any earlier than 1am?
Humbug!

good to see nicki b is back managing this pub she will sort it out
|
Big pub, and a Thurday and Friday night haunt for the local offce workers. This could be a great pub as it has good atmosphere, but tragically let-down by the couldn't-give-a-shit attitude of the staff. They serve whoever is nearest, not whoever has been waiting longest. The pub has not had a penny spent on io in the last 3 years and it shows - urinals caked with brown deposits and pictures ripped off the walls - I doubt if anyone has ever cleaned them - foul and disgusting. Would you want to eat here ? No, probaly not. Gets by despite the criminally irresponsible mangement. Why hasn't the area manager been sacked ?
|
Oh dear. Popped in one afternoon last week for a farewell drink. Service abysmally slow despite an absence of customers. Besides our group I doubt there were more than half a dozen other people in there. The choice of 'beers' was pitiful. If you didn't want Guinness (Extra Cold only) or Guinness Red then hard luck. Smithwicks and a couple lagers 'off'.
Clearly only there for the evening yoof.
|
A pub that rightly (in some cases) gets a bad rap from many, yet its okay at other times. I was in here for a short while last Saturday (Jan 12th), propped up at the bar watching Man Utd give Newcastle a damn good thrashing. The big screen was clear, behaviour was acceptable and my Guinness read went down nicely. Choose your time wisely and dare I say it, O'Neil's has some plus points!

Not the best beer or a great selection, serivce was alright, music was loud, atmosphere was nothing special.
Basisly your average chain pub on a Saturday night.
|
I used to come here every week when this was the Firkin, and it was superb. O'Neils's have ruined everything apart from the building - it's pricey, beer's nothing special, and you wait ages. One plus, it's not as snooty as some Bromley pubs.
|
Really great for picking up young girls - but check ID - the doorstaff don't!!
|
Hasn't anyone told you, plastic-Irish pubs are SO 1990s! A hole of a place, no redeeming features at all and full of thick socially challenged pond-life.
|
It's an O'Neills, so you know what you're going to get!
|
Disappointing.... Long waits for poor beer.... No Smiles.... Great fights though if you like that sort of thing!
|
I used to come in here a few times when I guess I was regarded as the 'youthful crowd'. It always amazes me that im sure at least half the people that moan about the 'tinnyboppers' were probably there once, just hit 18 (or slightly younger) that couldn't wait to meet up with their mates on a Fri/Sat night and would be down if they missed one... I know I was. And yet now I prefer a more marure atmosphere with a good Ale on tap... funny how things change
This place isn't bad for a chain pub. Nothing exceptional. Come and enjoy it at quieter times. You may marvel at the huge bar instead of being in cheesed off with its length..
And I still look back at coming here a few years back fondly...
|
Not too bad, compared to other large pubs in Bromley. Toilets absolutely disgraceful. Bar very long, can take ages to get served.
|
I believe it's no longer a 21's place all the time, given thatcI went in of a Wednesday and most of the clientele were late teens. Probably wouldn't drink here of a Friday/Saturday night ideally, as it gets quite stuffy and crowded, but it's a friendly enough atmosphere and the female clientele has been of a good standard on the 2 occasions I've been there. Only downside. as mentioned, is the toilets. One of the more favourable drinking holes in the main part of Bromley, however.
|
ONeils in Bromley is just your standard large bar with music on a Friday and Saturday night. There is do differentiating between this place and anywhere else of the same calibre. I havent set foot in here for quite some time, but remember it been incredibly packed with a lack of seating. I did go once or twice during the week and it was actually extremely quiet. Though in a pub with a large open space, it made it feel even emptier than it was. Its an okay bar, but nothing more.
|
it is now a 21s and over, so that is pretty much all of its friday and saturday night crowd out. Toilets are a discrace, and no real ale - but it has guiness

o'neills is cool. bouncers aint that bad-blimey sum things ppl hv said! yeh bar is a bit of a nightmare 2 get served but aint all bars? i went there on st patricks it was wkd! o'neils is a nice night out!
anonymous - 24 Nov 2005 18:56 |
The pub is a hole really..The bar staff are pretty much arseholes and theres a weird mix of people one of the worst in bromley...
anonymous - 13 Sep 2005 23:02 |
It's a O'Neills, so you should probably know what you're going to get already if you been to one before. Good door staff, doing Bromley's work of keeping the kiddies out. Bar staff good, but sometimes challenged to respond quickly on a busy night due to the huge long bar. Music is generally a bit loud, but of acceptable quality. The customers don't seem to be normal Bromley fighting chavs, which is a good thing. The toilets are a disgrace.
Oh and if the first review wasn't written by the manager, then I'm a monkey's uncle!
|
TOP PUB BEST MUSIC FIT SORTS GOOD BEER WITH HEADS TOILETS STINK THOUGH BUT STAFF ARE BOSS ALSO FOOD IS WELL RATED AND GET THE STEAK COS ITS JUST ABSOLUTELY MARVELLOUS. DON'T MESS WITH THE BOUNCERS, BOYS AND GIRLS, THEY'LL BITE YOUR HEADS OFF
|
Bah. Any establishment that plays the Proclaimers - 500 Miles every time I go in there gets a thumbs down from me. Heaving with Bromley pissheads & skinny blonde teens at the weekends. No ale. Enough said.
|
good pub for a quiet night drinking if you DONT want to do some serious dancing and get slaughtered then this is a good pub always a good atmosphere. never had a problem in this pub very nice place
|
What a great pub, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in a great setting. The pub was very clean as I went in the day, good food selection, my meal was excellent and served quickly (but not that quickly, so couldnt be a microwave job). The staff were cheerful and seemed to be enjoying their jobs. You couldnt help but notice the Manager who was there, as he was leading his team with great skill and ensured all customers had an excellent experrience at @ O Neils, a very warm and friendly guy. A great pub that I highly reccommend.

good on a sunday, live music and good atmos.

best place in bromley by far! never been groped by random pervs in there and very rarely see any chavs. never had 2 que for the loo either!
kerry - 19 Aug 2004 15:06 |
much improved pub, top service, big screen the size of a house, good tunes and no trouble. Well worth a visit, staff nice, manager very friendly, easy best pub in bromley at the mo'

o'neils is pure class. living the dream. and the balcony dancing...oh the balcony dancing...
|
The pub itself is superb, although slightly more expensive than most. The staff are very friendly and the venue is spacious enough to breathe but also carries off a busy happy atmosphere. From a lady's p.o.v it is the least pervey pub in bromley, you can actually dance without being groped. One flaw i may add are the bouncers, who can often be hooligan-like and argumentative. Other than that, the place cant be faulted. There is a top bar that can be closed off (free of charge) for celebrations, which is very handy. Easily The best pub in Bromley.
Jules - 20 May 2004 18:45 |
Good music, can get crowded and noisy but good atmosphere no trouble or demented youths spoiling your drink. Lots of space.
NoPlaid - 14 May 2004 10:37 |
Best pub in Bromley. Most trouble free pub in Bromley as well.
Dman - 14 Apr 2004 14:37 |
Converted from a firkin pub with very little effort. a slap dash effort to make this an O'neils pub
But it's a large pub and you could certainly do alot worse in bromley.
Bobby - 13 Mar 2004 18:50 |
Dan, im below 25 and i do agree that it is full of goths etc BUT that was before it got changed to O'Neils and as Mike said "It is this sort of narrow mindedness that causes all the fights and vandalism at Bromleys other bars" If you dont like it, which its clear you dont, go to The Bell. You will fit in great, burberry boy!!
anonymous - 12 Mar 2004 10:17 |
very friendly pub. i left my digital camera in there (very drunk at the time) and it was handed in and given back to me the next day. don't know other pubs in bromley that would do this
helen - 26 Feb 2004 12:22 |
The refreshing thing about this watering hole is the lack of trouble caused by bromleys increasing population of burberry capped chavs. It is friendly with an upbeat atmosphere. Its not attempting to be a club style bar, just a fun bar, thats why the people that frequent this pub always return. And if your put off because a few people dress "goth" then frankly your not welcome. It is this sort of narrow mindedness that causes all the fights and vandalism at Bromleys other bars.
|
Dan,
I can promise you that if you go in there on a friday and saturday night there are no goth wierdos or freaks! I wouldn't drink there if it was like that! I think they've now moved to the Swan and Mitre.
I think it's one of the few places in Bromley where you can actually drink with people who are legal.
anonymous - 6 Feb 2004 16:02 |
i personal think it is full of goths wierdos and freaks! Been there a few times - drinks are expensive and yes barmaids are fit but no-one else in there is! If your below 25 - id stay away!!
Daniel - 6 Feb 2004 15:05 |
Hi my name is Mr Pope and I love the place!
I go there to relax after a heavy day working in my Nail salon. All the girlies and I go there to drink the tasty cocktails and chill out on the big sofas.
If you are looking for a friendly and relaxing environment, this is the best place in Bromley.
anonymous - 30 Jan 2004 12:04 |
Not only are the barstaff easy on the eye but they work hard too!
I think us drunks should remember that sometimes and buy them a drink!
anonymous - 29 Jan 2004 14:14 |
Well, I am going to disagree with this Andy guy, I am assuming he has GREEN HAIR!!
It's a great place and the prices are reasonable, maybe not as cheap as the Swan but they make up for it with promotions.
Of course there are better places to drink but for Bromley it's one of the best.
anonymous - 22 Jan 2004 16:38 |
Over priced, over rated and no atmosphere! Should of stayed a Firkin pub!
andy - 18 Jan 2004 16:49 |
Great atmosphere, good service and just a great place in general. Bromley isn't exactly the best place in the world but O'niell's certainly raises the standards compared to the rest of Bromley. The barmaids are easy on the eye too..so well worth a visit.
Al - 13 Jan 2004 20:46 |
Blooming fantastic as I work there!! Yeap I worked my way round the Bromley Pubs and I can safely say this is the best. If you are looking for reasonably priced drinks and a friendly atmosphere this is the place to be!
Wilkie - 6 Jan 2004 12:39 |
I love it! It is very big but still very nice! You can sit in a cosy corner or just between strangers. It's lovely!
