This pub is now closed, according to reports, following an unsuccessful appeal from the village populace to keep it open.

Visited yesterday for the first time in about 3 years. Pretty busy at lunchtime with people eating - maybe because of half term Food menu looked good and reasonably priced and the meals that we saw being served looked good.
BUT, oh dear, the beer! Black Sheep was awful so moved onto the Pride. Cold, bland and tasteless - could have been anything. Ramsbury Gold also on offer. 3.20 a pint.
Water started dripping through the ceiling in the window bat when it started to rain so the place clearly needs some attention!
Maybe worth visiting for the food but, based on this visit, not for the beer!

Called in the other day for a pint and lunch, but found out I'd mistaken it for the Three Tuns which is a couple of hundred yards away. Since the previous comments were made, this pub is now an upmarket gastro pub with a modern interior to suit. We didn't stay and went to the Three Tuns instead which has more of a traditional feel to it. Locals have commented that as this village is on the main line to London, it has become populated by commuters with corresponding prices all round.

Have used this pub quite a few times when photting trains on the line adjacent to the K&A canal, a good proper local in a small village, does exactly what it says on the tin, long may it continue. Try the bakery down the road as well, a real gem.

Visited twice last week whilst out on the canal - excellent pint of Pride, good food and friendly and prompt service.

Stopped off for an evening meal on my way from Brighton to Bristol. Well kept 6X and a great menu, reasonably priced. Limited for vegetarians, but good quality. Pint plus food came to 12. Friendly staff and landlord. Kids party going on in the garden. A great pub.

I am pleased to report that I was wrong, ref my previous review in March 2007
Since then, on recommend of a local we have used this pub 5 times in Dec 2007, all at lunch time, and I am please to report that my experience in Feb appears to have been an anomaly
On all the occasions I have visited in Dec, including 27th which was a busy time, the service has been very friendly and welcoming
Nice warm & cosy bar, with fire & pub dog [friendly boxer puppy] it is the classic country pub
We always had lunch, which appears to be home made and cooked, and not from freezer to microwave, and have enjoyed every meal. The portions are generous and reasonably priced
Beers I have tried are Waddingtons 6x & Fullers London Pride, both of which went down a treat. My companions have stuck to coffee, which is freshly made & I am informed is very good
Parking can be a bit chaotic, park wherever you can find a spot, but as it is a small village then this is to be expected and really should not put you off visiting

Visited on a wet Wednesday lunchtime in Feb.
The side door was open so we went in, the landlord? gave us a grunt & went out the back
We sat down, looked at the walls for a bit awaitnig his return, then we went up the road to the Three Tuns
Save some time, go to the Three Tuns in the first palce

Visited on a quiet, sunny Sunday evening after finding the Three Tuns shut at 8pm...unable to sample any food, but a nice, relaxed feel to the place and excellently kept beer. Will definitely return to eat, given the reputation of their veggie selection...

We visited this superb and lively pub on a Saturday evening. The food was good, the ale well-kept and both the staff and locals tremendously friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended.

Went for sunday lunch on the basis of the 2 reports posted. Very busy - as usual, they say - but good friendly service. Comprehensive menu and good portions of great food at reasonable prices. Would go back.
