If I owned a pub, I'd want it to be much like this. I understand that there was a refurbishment last year but it seems to have been done very tastefully. The building oozes character, the food is tasty and plentiful (the Warham Plough Pudding almost defeated me but I wouldn't give in) and the beer (Woodforde's Wherry, Barsham Brewery's Bitter Old Bustard and Stout Robin) is dispensed straight from the cask (Whin Hill Cider also on sale). Add the friendly efficient service and our Sunday lunchtime visit was a delight.

This is wonderful. A step back in time and near some lovely walking. Woodforde's Wherry and Nelson's Revenge straight from the barrel and lovely hot home made soup.

Loved it. loved it. loved it

A superb pub in most respects, meals only( no sandwiches or rolls )and they are very good indeed, the gravity Wherry can be a little changeable. The Horshoes has hada major tidy up recently and more tables put in the third bar, I miss the old antique pieces that were formerly displayed but it has lost the jumble sales appearance it had. In my view one of the best pubs in the country. 10/10.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and found ourselves the only ones in. Have visited what was a superb pub a number of times over many years not often in North Norfolk and it is a shadow of its former self. Both the beers we had were distinctly past their best and the food: no sandwiches indifferent. What a shame.

Went in here a few weeks ago in the evening. The fire was roaring, the beer was excellent and the food very good. Was with my dad who was back over for a visit from Adelaide with his Australian wife. They thoroughly enjoyed all the old memorabilia, especially my dad, who commented that pubs like this are the only thing he misses about the UK. Yes it is a bit quirky, but as someone who lives in London it is a real pleasure to go to a place like that and unwind.

Good traditional food. Lots of pies and game served with real veg. Very good Wherry.

A nice old fashioned pub although still worrying how quiet it is. Possibly needs to step its game up to draw more people in (keeping the historic interior and feel) perhaps by better advertising, accepting card payments for food etc... there's a difference between keeping a traditional style and being stuck in a time warp!
I hope it does succeed as I'd hate to see it be another closed village pub.

what a good visit....and greeted like old friends...although it was six months since we last called.

A nice pub with a seemingly locally sourced food menu. Worrying though that there were only 6 people in at 7pm on a Friday evening.

Popped in to have a look whilst staying in nearby Binham on a long weekend. Excellent as ever especially on cold winter evenings. Well worth a trip to this pub.

Called in whilst walking in the area. Classic pub as per my comments below. Had a Yarmouth beer (half), which was ok. I love the Wherry from the cask. I sat in the beer garden, which is just lovely idyllic. Alongside The Chequers at nearby Binham, this is one of my favourite pubs.

This is a wonderful magical place! Like going back in time. The food is excellent and with good old fashioned portions. But more amazing is the the pub itself. If you want a pretentious gastro-pub with crisp table-cloths, surly staff and people who work in "the media", this won't be for you. If you want a creeky old, incredibly cosy pub with pictures of our great Victoria on the walls, a real fire and genuine folk. This is for you.

Popped back again for a visit whilst on holiday in the area. Excellent as ever. An exceptional pub for historic reasons and it is like going back in time. Wherry from the cask excellent as was the Sundew. Took my Mum and Dad with me this time and they both loved it - put it on a par with some of their fav's in the Lake District, which for them is saying something! They also loved The Chequers in nearby Binham. Well worth travelling to for a visit.

Agree with Mothbag in terms of his comments about the building. Quite charming, but unfortunately I was unable to partake in the beer as I was driving. My wife seemd more than happy with the Whin Valley cider avilable which made in the nearby toen of Wells-Nect-The Sea

Went in here whilst staying in the nearby village of Binham. Great pub dating back to the 1920s and it was like going back in time. Loved the place. Wherry was served straight from the cask and was tip top as was a guest beer from Humpty Dumpty and Tipples breweries. I found the staff to be welcoming and friendly. They gave me a sample of the beer before I decided to get a pint so all in all helpful. All in all a great pub and I'm pleased I made the effort to try it.

This is a superb old pub with a great pint of Wherry (last week). The food was not tempting even before looking at the price list. The bar lady (was it Karen?) could pretend that she likes being there.
A good pub for a session in the evening - probably better in winter - when Karen is more relaxed.

Hmm 'fraid I agree with nicgooner - a real shame - it looks fantastic from outside - seemed to be an OAP honeypot when I was there - food was awful, but maybe the regulars don't have much in the way of tastebuds left?!! A haven of memorabilia on the walls though if that's your bag...

Lovely pub inside and Wherry straight from the cask. However the food was awful. My wife had a jacket potato which they just emptied a can of tuna on. My sausage roll was cheap supermarket type hotdog roll with 3 burnt crunchy sausages in. Horrible. Won't eat here again. Landlady (if that's who she was) behind the bar not the friendliest either.

One of the best pubs in Norfolk... no... Engalnd... no... the UK! Been going there, off & on, for last 20 years. Expanded since late 80's but sympathetically done, food remains the same (a good thing)

Superb little pub. Lovely atmosphere, good beer and food. The Steak & Kidney pudding was excellent.

Lovely beer and the home-made lemonade is pretty good to, and excellent no nonsense food

Very nice and unspiolt. Good food and beer straight from the cask.

The best way to drink Wherry is straight from the barrel this you can do here! And what fantastic food. Also the accomodation wasn't bad at all.

Really lovely old pub in a nice small village. Really good selection of beers (even seen [Marlow]Rebellion here), and a good range of home cooked food, including lovely mussels and great soups. Superb in winter with the fires going.
