I have found a new friend and his name is Wherry.
Huge, beautifully decorated monster of a pub. If I told you the ice cream van has a personalised number plate, you can guess what the only pub in the village is like.

The Hoste Arms is not really a pub. It's a premium hotel that just happens to have a bar at the front. It charges premium prices. The restaurant is indeed very posh and the food is good, although of course as in all such establisments portion size is nothing to write home about.
Staff excellent of course and the place does sell Nelson's Revenge, which meant I could get away from the Wherry.

Popped in again on a recent stay in North Norfolk. Had their Sunday roast and have to say it was excellent. The puds are to die for! Agree with meland though about the plummy accents. We booked the restaurant and it was very very posh. Don't let this put you off though it is an excellent pub for beer and food.

Good hotel / pub with a good pubby bar. Very posh hotel (checked it out when I used the loo!). Bustling as ever and nice to sit out front people watching.
Nice pub nice location with good food and beer. Staff helpful and efficient although don't visit if you don't like plummy accents and people who think they're better than you because mummy and daddy have money!

This makes no apologies for being a hotel bar and not a pub. Deep dark wood everywhere, and a couple of tables with window seat. Abbot Ale, Woodfordes Wherry and Nelson's Revenge on tap, 3.05 a pint. Service with a smile, a bar for those that like the finer things in life. Little offish if you prefer a friendly pub, but for a quiet drink (I was in around 10.15 on a Wednesday) reading the paper you could do worse. 6/10

It was so unappealing from outside that I turned and went to two great pubs down the road.
Has the potential to be a fabulous pub, but is instead entirely focused on removing large wads of cash from wealthy visitors. Food is OK, but not startling, yet the prices are (and in inverse proportion to the amount you get on your plate it seems). Beer is very well kept and a good selection, if you can get to the bar through the hordes of wannabe Sloanes, but don't expect to get a seat with your drink. Equally the chance of getting a seat outside is minimal in the school holidays, half term or at the weekend. Not that you would want to because Burnham Market is now known as the largest free car park in North Norfolk. Personally I would strongly recommend avoiding this one.

Have to agree re the clientele, but the food was exceptional. Unusual place really, with lots of different areas. Doesn't really feel like a pub. Worth going just for the food and beer. Service was very friendly. Nelson's Revenge was stunning.
how old is that picture? the pub is now yellow, covered with Ivy and doesn't have the picture on the wall.
although it is nice to see it without millions of cars outside...
food was great, service was poor, and the sloaney element big. I mean, hugh grant hair cut?
Went there on the weekend and had a really good time. No I am not a Sloaney - we were camping. Ale was nice, can never really fault Adnams. For the standard of food (great) we thought it was not too pricey, have had many average meals at the same price (75 for two incl. several wines by the glass). Staff were friendly and service good apart from having to wait a while for our mains - I think they forgot them and only brought out the dishes after being reminded. Only wish that I wasn't driving so could have spent more time in the front bar getting sloshed and spotting the proper Norfolk accents from the tourists.
When I went in there I was given the wrong change (10 too little) from a 20 note. Someone at the bar told me the same thing had happened to him, from the same member of staff. Agree about the Chelsea brigade. Terrible!
Alas, another fine old pub that has been ruined by the Chelsea tractor brigade who like to "...come up to the country..." at weekends. Previous reviewers are spot on-the snooty sloan set. Such a shame, as the pub has good beers, excellent food and, interior wise, is interesting, with all sorts of nooks and crannies. Go in here with anything resemblinga Norfolk accent and its like that moment in "American Werewolf in London", long hugged halves of Wherry are put down and frosty, silent glowers abound. Yes, the "Hoste" is a little bit of Kensington in Norfolk, one can only hope that, akin to the US Embassy in Saigon, the locals will one day storm the doors and kick their Barbourous backsides back to where they came from. A nice pub now spoilt, best avoided.
food was very pricey.decent pint though.many of the customers seemed snooty
Bit trendy now. Too many sloanes up for the weekend but the atmosphere is great, and the beer superb. The meals are a little more restuarant like than the used to be, and it's a shame they got rid of the jazz nights.
