The Hoste Arms, Burnham Market
Has the potential to be a fabulous pub, but is instead entirely focused on removing large wads of cash from wealthy visitors. Food is OK, but not startling, yet the prices are (and in inverse proportion to the amount you get on your plate it seems). Beer is very well kept and a good selection, if you can get to the bar through the hordes of wannabe Sloanes, but don't expect to get a seat with your drink. Equally the chance of getting a seat outside is minimal in the school holidays, half term or at the weekend. Not that you would want to because Burnham Market is now known as the largest free car park in North Norfolk. Personally I would strongly recommend avoiding this one.

The Hero, Burnham Overy Staithe
I am very puzzled by other reviews here that seem reasonably positive. This was a rather excentric local pub with reasonable beer and food. It has now been turned into something that could best be described as looking like my school refectory - gone is any sort of character to be replaced by ugly furniture, single echoing eating space (and it really is just about eating now), which might explain the booming landlord mentioned by a previous reviewer and certainly explained the imnpact of screaming kids when I last went there. Beer is reasonably well kept but that really is all you can say about this place. Sadly I fear that the new owners decided that if they made it look more like a London wine bar they would attract more London visitors. Perhaps they do, but in the process they have ruined a perfectly nice country pub.
