Decent pub with good beer and food. Friendly atmosphere. A nice out of the way location. Just a couple of doors down from the Nags. Highly recommended.

Nice pub.Had a very good pint of Whistaple Bay IPA( i think thats the name of it) Cracking Pint.Service good and the Labndlord knows his stuff. Was in here yesterday and a fella with his wife, commented to the Guv'nor that the Guinness wasnt right. No questions asked, poured down the sink and a fressh pint replaced it.As it should be.Top marks for that

Nice traditional pub with well-kept beers and friendly staff. 7/10
Proper locals pub with a good atmosphere and ok selection of beer. Impressive floral displays outside if that's your thing. Also has the footie. Bonus!
Great find, hidden away from the hurly burly. Rare proper pub for the area. Well kept Shepherd Neame beers. Big salt beef sarnie is highly recommended.
Decent boozer tucked away. Popped in on the way to a concert at St Paul's church round the corner. Good mix of local residents, workers and pre-concert goers. Decent Shepherd Neame beer too: Spitfire, Master Brew and Bishop's Finger.
Popped in here last night for a bite to eat before a concert. Food was standard pub fayre and reasonably priced and service was quick and efficient. A few ales on tap and a happy looking clientelle. This was before the match had started so might have changed after I left. While pop in again when next passing.

Standard pub with no particular frills about it. Beer was fine although I see where the comment about clearing up has come from - they are quick with the wet cloth!
Pleasant looking pub that we sometimes use during lunch time at work to watch sport. Food was very poor quality, asked for a sausage sandwich and received deep fried crispy sticks that were apparently sausages and wasn't given the crisps and salad that are listed as being served with sandwiches..
The staff are friendly but literally hover around you while you eat and drink and then grab your empty glasses and plates the second you're finished with them...nice to have a clear table but you almost feel pressured to finish your drinks quickly so they can have your glass back!
Completely lacking in character, rude staff, particularly the landlord who I presumed was the landlord. Burger was burnt and poor range of beers. Avoid.

Oh dear. I'm afraid I must fly in the face of some previous assessments here, and not for the better. I visited this place for the first time yesterday evening, and was hit not by one but numerous disappointments. Firstly, we were assaulted by a rather unappealing stale odour as we entered the premises, which didn't augur well as that is so often indicative of an under-used, poorly-run establishment that is on its uppers. Sadly our initial concern wasn't allayed, for when I asked for a half in a pint glass (okay, fussy perhaps to some souls, but personally I find it is simply better to drink beer from a proper pint pot, even if it is only half the full measure - most staff are happy to indulge me in this request), the dopey foreigner behind the bar poured a whole pint. After I set about trying to explain what I wanted in three alternative ways, I gave up, and only by chance did he eventually hit on the combination of half-pint beer, pint glass. Don't get me wrong, he was willing to please, but totally unable to, mainly because - presumably - he didn't understand the language and/or the rudiments of serving drinks. Worse still, the ale was decidedly on the turn! I had hoped for a refreshing pint of Bishops Finger (Sheps seems to be the order of the day with 3 of their offerings on), but it was part-bitter, part-vinegar. Maybe I was just unlucky here and one should always be able to allow benefit of the doubt, but the overall package was poor and made it harder to extend any generosity to them. Even my cousin's lager was flat!
The only real respite came - bizarrely - in a visit to the gents', which mercifully were in reasonable order, and even smelled quite pleasant. Indeed, the aromas in the latrines were rather sweeter than those found in the bar!
Apparently a nice little bolthole from the outside, and set in a usually reliable district, this really flatters to deceive. I'm afraid someone has taken their foot off the gas here, judging by nearly every measure one could apply to pub quality. And to think we left the nearby excellent Nags Head to come here - we were genuinely gutted. I shan't be returning, and I can't recommend this to users of this site. I can only hope I was exceedingly unlucky and that what we found isn't representative of the status quo.

Decent pint of Master Brew and Spitfire. As usual outside flowers looking good. Sometimes hard to get served when they are showing a football match.

Traditional, attractive looking Sheps pub situated on Kinnerton Street, a mews style street in Belgravia. It's close to the much smaller, but better known Nags Head, a hundred or so yards away. The Wilton Arms is a former Whitbread pub with a long standing landlord.
It's carpeted and comfortable and with a slightly upmarket hotel bar feel to it, with bookshelves, wood pannelling and a mahogany bar contributing to a traditional and cosy, if rather impersonal, atmosphere.
I enjoyed a good pint of Spitfire - 3.25p - in here last week, although my visit was somewhat marred by a distinct smell of furniture polish pervading the atmosphere.
The pub is larger than both The Nags Head and The Grenadier and is likely to be considerably less crowded, so it's worthy of consideration if doing a crawl in the area.
Much bigger than the nearby Nags Head this is still a good pub with a nice ambience. Shepherd Neame so their usual collection of beers and lagers. The exterior of the pub is appealing and the interior is comfortable without being shabby.
Recommended particularly for larger groups as the Nags Head is really too small for more than about six.
A more than acceptable ShepNeame pub, larger than most similar Mews pubs in the area. Normally most of the brewery's beers are on.
Reasonable Sheps pub, but a slightly sterile atmosphere I thought. Master Brew, Spitfire and Bishop's Finger on when I visited, and the latter was on good form. As expensive as you would expect from the area, but without the character (or characters, depending on how you look at things) of the nearby Nags Head.
Yes, its a Shep's house. They normally have a reasonable range of these on - around 3, sometimes 4. Beer is kept well, which does help.
There is plenty of space for sitting down inside if you get there early enough! Otherwise, standing outside with the hanging flower baskets is rather pleasant with the sun shining.
Food is reasonable, but nothing too exciting. Average pricing for the area really.
It does have a TV, which can help for watching the sport etc. on. This is a key difference between it and just down the road the Nags Head. Note both of these pubs discourage mobiles...

A Shepherd Neame pub with the usual range except that it did not have Kents Best when I was in there the other day. But the Master Brew was OK. This pub has a well- tended exterior, with numerous hanging baskets and planters, making it appear very inviting. Inside its spacious, without being barn-like, and very clean and comfortable. Theres plenty of assorted bric-a-brac around the walls books, beer jugs and the like. The food seemed very reasonably priced for the area, and although I didnt eat in there, it looked pretty good. So, this pub couldnt be more different to the Nags Head a few doors down the street. I would certainly visit again if I needed a drink to see me through the long walk from the Grenadier to the Nags Head! Seriously, I do recommend this pub.

Called in here recently on a quiet Monday afternoon. Had a good pint of Master Brew. OK to add to a crawl but if time is limited skip this one and go nextdoor to the Nags Head

I used to work there, unfortunately... I really "love" the Landlady... She's the most hypocritical, unfair, ungrateful person I've ever met. Val is ok (thanks Val for everything). Watch your meals there...

Nice boozer, in a pleasant area.Guinness ok
bad pub in a good part of London
Perfectly pleasant pub tucked around a side street near Hyde Park Corner. Well kept pints of Bishops Finger, Spitfire and Master Brew. Good stuff, if full of braying local workers celebrating the four day weekend.
This is quite possibly the worst pub i have ever had the misfortune to dirnk in. Unfortunately I wasted far too many months drinking regularly in here due to its proximity to my workplace.
The beer is awful (Asahi on draught? Please) The spirits I don't drink, but Ikon vodka, exactly where is that from?
In fairness though the Landlady makes a real and concerted effort. Shame it's a real effort to make you feel utterly unwelcome. The single most unpleasant person I've ever met (bearing in mind that I was in there spending money 5 days a week for the best part of a year). Steer well clear.

A deservedly popular pub. Good food at lunchtime and good atmosphere.
Absolutely gorgeous barmaids, especially the one with long curly hair!! Both in looks and personality. Great pub, very cosy and with great drink.
The Polish barmaids were lovely, the darker one with curly hair was gorgeous , both to look at and in personality. Lovely pub, with an amzing flower arrangement outside! Great service and the landlord was very friendly to us. Beautiful place in a lovely area. Nice decor and the alcohol isn't bad either. It gets the thumbs up!
I certainly don't object to Polish barmaids - Katryna who worked in the Hop Poles, W6 a few years ago was the best thing ever to happen to that pub - but she spoke good English and the point here is that barstaff have to. If they can't understand English, as it's spoken by someone who's had a pint or two in a possibly noisy pub, then it's humiliating for them and annoying for the customer. Not knowing the difference between cask ale and fizz - as one such did in a south London pub recently - is another matter, as that's just a matter of learning the ropes and the Slovakian girl in question was so endearing I'm sure there would be no shortage of volunteers.
Can't say that I found the locals to resent the presence of an outside. Found them quite chatty. Also found the ales to be well-kept. Yes, prices are not low, but I imagine neither is the cost of upkeep in Belgravia.
Nice little Shepherd Neame pub tucked away from busy Knightsbridge. Beers were good quality. Full of posh gits who look down their nose at you for having the audacity to drink in THEIR local. Been here a couple of times before and beer has always been good. Pricey but thats to be expected in this area.
I don't get why so many reviewers have an issue with 'foreign barmaids'. I think they're great. They're usually beautiful, Polish and desperate to help. So what if you have to ask for something twice. It ain't the end of the world. Fair play to the Wilton Arms for employing foreigners - same goes to the excellent Nags Head down the road.

Splendid pub, well recommended, but why do they employ a foreign barmaid whose knowledge of English leaves quite a bit to be desired? Still, it served to increase the pleasure of the visit, just on entertainment value alone, last Saturday lunchtime
I my name is frank i used to work here in 1983 with the manager paul kline he was an assie was never their, was a great pub then as maybe now it had aupstaires then not used as it should have been but a great mix of regulars from alsorts of life,it had alittle court yard out back open to the sky.
a lot of singing in here on saturday night - but pleasant enough nevertheless.
A fine pub.
Paid my first ever visit to this pub yesterday - will definitely return. Fine traditional atmosphere and the Spitfire was on top form. Only a stone's throw away from The Nags Head - which is also highly recommended
Perfect compact pub. Always nice to stand outside with a pint or two in the sunshine. View out of the back window was always funny. I think it was a tropical mural on a brick wall inches from the window.
Staff always nice, and would reserve tables for us if a crowd was coming.

Best pint of Spitfire this side of Kent. Great in the summer, standing outside and laughing at the local hoorays misjudging the corner in their Mercs.
OK, just a quick half - 11 Feb 2004 17:07 |
