Commandeered by one half of a pub landlord and landlady combo, the female representative of which is currently head honcho at the excellent Pineapple, this hits a lovely sweet spot between fun and painstaking care - the atmosphere was upbeat and welcoming of a Saturday night and the beer selection very good indeed.

Fantastic pub, great beer, cat-what more could you want. Wait a minute- it seems to have become the latest pub to fall foul of the adhorrent practice of reserving tables, it's a pub for Gawd sakes, I'm getting heartily fed up with going into half empty pubs with every table having a sign on "reserved for Tarquin and Jocasta 7PM" Oh you can sit there until they come, then you have to slink away like a 2nd class citizen cos the bright young things have arrived. This nonsense is going to kill off so many pubs, you go to a pub and take pot luck, that's the point, there may be a coach load of Canadian hairdressers, a chapter of Hells Angels or three regulars, that's the point of going to the pub. Rant over.

After a quick beer in the Abbey I started ticking 3 of the 4 pubs in Kentish Town from the 2016 GBG, first stop this old fashioned corner plot pub in a residential area.

Apparently it has been saved by the community and is now a haven for good ale and conversation. I can certainly agree with the good ale part, with 7 ales on across the 10 hand pumps on my quick visit. The 2 pints of Acorn Barnsley Gold @ 4.3% were both excellent.

One side of the pub is rich in Navy memorabilia while the other side is decorated in a more traditional style with lamps and a privacy board. The ceiling by the bar is adorned with pump clips aplenty, far too many to count.

There’s a garden to the side and the pub’s black and white cat is also worth a mention, sleeping away on a stool by the door.

Decent pub that was fairly busy at 7.30 on a Tuesday evening.

Yes, a truly great pub!

Not tried the food but the beer has been top-notch every time I've been here (only about 3 or 4 times but I'm working on it!).

Love the nautical-related decor, too!

Quite simply the greatest pub on earth. Good beer from small, independent breweries and served well. And the music they play on the sound system is very good: classic rock, punk and indie stuff.

Possibly my favourite of the night.

Great interior decoration. Interesting ales - I went for a Mister Chubbs from the West Berkshire Brewery.

Would come back again - worth seeking out.

An excellent street-corner pub in an 'improving' area. A good selection of mainly local ales, served by pleasant and knowledgeable staff. I believe the food is good as well, but haven't tried it yet. I wish this pub was my local!

An excellent pub just enough off the beaten track that only people in the know know about it. Very good selection of beers at not an over the top price - rare for this part of London. Particularly well situated if going to the Roundhouse.
