Many of the previous comments do contain valid points. Yes, this is a locals pub and if you're not a local, as with all "locals" pubs you will feel slightly out of place initially.
The layout is quirky, however, there is no need to go through the gents toilets to get to the back bar, use the back bar side door!
There is a diverse mix of patrons, this is Pimlico not Belgravia. The bar staff are friendly and the beer is good enough.

Like something from a Dickensian slum. Back bar full of homeless hostel dwellers so the atmosphere rather strange.
Another Pimlico pub, I walked in and walked straight out of. Chavs, football hooligans waiting for West Ham's ICF to turn the place over. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE, Pull the place down for redevelopment
Not recommended unless you're a fan of Greene King IPA or want to join the locals in some serious-looking card games. The connection between front and back bars is via the gents - most odd.
Walked into the Surprise, only to discover Greene King IPA as the sole draught ale, and a mother (presumably) and her three small children and pushchair taking up the large sofa right by the bar. Made my excuses and left. Probably does a very good job for the locals, but not for anyone else.

This place has a public bar at the front and a larger bar at the rear that houses the pool table and dartboard. There are plasma screens for showing Sky Sports and the music selection was decent.
Whilst enjoying a pleasant pint of Guinness I spotted Greene King IPA and a standard draught selection also available.
The landlady was nice enough, but I cannot comment on the locals as my visit was early and I was the only person in the pub.
I thought that it was ok in here, but there are better pubs around.

Have always thought this place should be renamed "The Shock" Its certainly not a pleasant surprise. Certainly is a locals pub and they're not friendly at all. The gents loos are equally as bad as any in the area. Badly kept IPA and no other ales. Where's the minus rating on this thing??
Unless you are a local or have a riot shield don't even think about going in.
suprise here being 3.05 for strongbow....pimlico pub prices are going through the roof
The only surprise about this place is that it's still in business - though after the smoking ban comes in it probably won't last too long. Hopefully.
This is my regular back up dart pub when the cardinal is packed full of non darters or students. A healthy amount of maximums have been hit and a high check out of 156 against one of my long standing practise partners "The Seasoner". Annoying that the oche isn't marked though.
Not much of a surprise here ...
Very much a "locals" pub. Extremely smokey when we were there.
OK dartboard though the lack of any marks on the floor to show where to throw from is a bit of a problem. Beer OK.
Reasonable pub where you can get a perfectly acceptable pint of Greene King IPA. Attracts mostly a local clientele.
When you've got a cracker of a barmaid like Ola who cares about the beer.

Not bad. Was much better a few years ago, both in clientelle and staff.
I think previous post ia a bit harsh, go in there often for a pint and to watch the football. dont really see any nutters, just the cockney chavs from nearby estates. Also there is a cracking little polish girl working behind the bar. Its just a proper boozer, not like some poncy ones in Pimlico

This pub is next door to a psychiatric hospital and the patients form the majority of the customer base. There are better pubs in the area. Avoid!!!
