My first visit to this large bar, diner and microbrewery which is just a stones throw from Hampden Park.
It was a Saturday tea time and it was pretty busy with several groups of blokes plotted up either for the night or as a warm up place.
9 ales on in total with 5 of them from the on site Clockwork brewery, my pints of Cartside Red @ 4.4% were okay but the ale did have a bit of twang to it.
A decent place that probably warrants another visit at some stage.

Very good pub-liked it a lot. Tried the on site beers except the lager and would definitely drink the Amber and the Red Alt again, although the 5% Ginger must be an acquired taste. Staff efficient and helpful. Only criticism was the fact Greene King Abbott was one of the guest beers-why? Dull, Dull, Dull! If that is the best English beer available its a sad state of affairs, I hope they got the barrel cheap. Gave this pub an 8 no bother.

Good pub and many a good night in this place over the past 12 years. The beer & food is good.
|
The Red Alt is definitely an acquired taste. Bit chemically for me, but only 2.30 a pint. They do a 6% stout for 2.60- only had a half the other lunchtime but I'll give it another go. Shame the mighty Spiders lost again.

Fantastic exterior, a bit like an old wherehouse, half white and half burnt orange-ish (see image 2). There is a beer patio at the back
The inside is open plan with tables for eatin and a huge spiral stair that takes you to a gallery. The decor is modern, the plain wall look with wood floor and Sky TVs, but as these things go, it was ok. The gallery, however, is worse, the brown sofas and arty pictures live with the light pink walls and more Sky TVs, so stay downstairs. The service was great and the clientele mixed and busy, even for a Queens Park match!
Beerwise; well, pretty impressive. The Clockwork stuff itself, whether its home brew or real ale, is so-so stuff; Amber, lager (not on), Oregon IPA, Red and Ginger (sadly not on). They also had Deuchars IPA and McClay Wallace IPA, the Wallace was fine. Better was the Kelburn, a brewery i got to repect while up in Glasgow. The Red Smiddy was good, the Dark Moor and Carte Blanche, excellent.
Without the Kelburn, it would have been disappointing, with it, i would recommend anyone to go

fab pub, great food, great staff, lovely clean and newly refurbished establishment.

Had a lovely lunch in here a few weeks back, Seems to be under new mangement, I got a decent pint as well.

Whether their own beers are real or not is a highly technical question which I understand revolves around whether reusing gas naturally produced from the brewing process to preserve the beer counts as being "real" or not.
For me the only question is whether I like the beer - and I do!

things have changed since robin left unfortunately the home brew isnt real ale

Stunning place! Large, busy and buzzing. Great mixed clientle. Bags of atmosphere. This is the must visit pub in Glasgow, and that's what we did. We had a day in Glasgow and spent most of it searching for this place, finding this place, drinking in this place, eating in this place, and being shown round the small back room brewery by the brewer of the place. In addition to their own home brewed beers (served under pressure from the natural gas of the beer which is captured and stored in a large bag) they do a good range of micro-brewed beers as well. We went a little while ago - and I hear that it is now owned by Maclays, so things might have changed.

took me a bit of a find cos i came out the station at mount florida a different way...not a good start..but found it eventually..the ginger beer was out of this world at 5%...just as good as the marble arch in manchester for the marble ginger..was quite empty wen i went in which gave me time to look at the interior without bumping into people..woth the walk from mount florida..reminded me of those old pubs in london on the junctions at traffic lights..staff very friendly and beer served from fonts...good selection as well as there own..jolly good stuff!!

remembe their own beer isnt real ale no matter what they claim

This pub is not as good as it used to be, but it had a lot to live up to. It is still one of the best pubs in Glasgow. I remember it before Robin took it over and then it was dire!
The new owners seem to be putting some effort into their food. I had an enjoyable sirloin steak last time I was in. Beer quality is still good.
|
Not great pub itself but the beer that they brew is gorgeous. Keep the beer and change the pub!
|
dissapointing

went downhill since change of ownership at least it now open on match days
|
Superb pub near Hampden park, enjoyed all the different Ales I drank which was quite a few .Its a large pub with lots of T.V. screens and some of the brewery gear is evident.I am surprised its got such a low score !

Happy for Robin & Gay that they have sold...not such good news for their "fans". Hope the new owners don't ruin one of the best.
