We visited this pub on 14th September 2012, the day before we were due to go home and wish we'd discovered it earlier. Views are stunning and the food was delicious. I had quiche and the portion was so big by the time I was full it looked like I had hardly eaten anything. We would highly recommend this pub and would definitely visit again when we are down that way.

Lovely views. Thats about it really. We ordered 3 meals - Fat Sausages, Lasagna and Cottage Pie. The Lasagna was delicious but if it wasnt for the large portion of chips and side salad would have been very small (10.50). The Fat sausages were cheap supermarket own brand sausages (8.50). The cottage pie was an insult. My 10 year old ate the lot - that's how big it was! I piddly little portion of cottage pie mainly mash potato, hardly any mince with a small portion of pes (10.50). We mentioned to the staff about the cottage pie but they didnt give a damn. If you want to sit and have a drink with a beautiful view then come here but dont bother to eat.

Have to agree was once a good pub fantastic views ever changing staff so atmosphere is whens shift finishing attitude and drinks are expensive but as was once said here you pays for the view and also the extension or what i think is the Ocean bar all sky and football me thinks. Food is plainly average and deep fried fare if thats your choice . Ale is ok not kept in excellent condition as am certain through put of ale drinkers is limited maily lager pub tho several hand pumps on tap ususal Doom Bar Skinners choice,

What a waste of a great location.
Horrible "high street bar" feel to the interior of the pub.
Best avoided.

Just to let everyone know that Two for 10 Lunch menu is still available Mon-Fri 12-2pm. Lots of Great Football coming up in the next few weeks on Sky and ESPN and to remind you that many of the games are available in 3D here at The Bowgie. Jam Sessions continue on Thursday and Live Bands on Fridays!

employ more elderly staff who can get a grip on who was in first!!!!!!

I recently popped in here with my family for lunch and honestly could not have been more disappointed.
The feel that they seem to have gone for is "chavvy" - all Sky Sports and lager promotions, with a very limited children's menu consisting solely of assorted fried things with chips. We politely asked if a children's version of an adult meal could be provided and were told "absolutely not".
Of course the views here are great, but this only serves to make what has been done to the place all the more disappointing. Within a few miles in either direction there are at least half a dozen other pubs with the same views, all of which make the effort in terms of food, atmosphere and service (Lewinnick Lodge anyone ?).
I hope the current management team take note and improve The Bowgie - it could be a great pub and certainly deserves more care and attention than it is getting at the moment.

This pub is all about the views. Visited on a lovely sunny day and sitting in the back garden overlooking Crantock beach was a pleasure. The pub is very large with two distinctly separate areas (old school pub area and a trendier bar area). Also decided to have some food as it was reasonably priced. Standard pub grub and fairly generous proportions. Would visit again if I was in the area.

I can't believe that this establishment as described by "sallypickles" is the same one that I visited for midweek lunchtime refreshment in early May. It was 2 years since my last visit, and the excellent experience had drawn us back again. We thought we were on familiar territory...but no. Curt, rather than the friendly service we enjoyed last time was on the menu this time. Two pints of Doombar at the upper end of the price range and a Cottage Pie special at 9.50 were a big let down. The meagre pie looked like an ASDA smart price version, and was accompanied just by peas, which covered the plate. I requested some chips, and paid just under 3 for them. I thought this represented poor value, and told the barman so. Feeling ripped off spoilt the rest of the day. By all means try the Bowgie, but remember you may be frustrated when the experience falls very short of the hype.

It's happened again, and I ask again, why have all the indifferent reviews about this pub been left out. Is it also the policy of Beerintheevening to allow false reviews of an establishment, because the owner dislikes the bad reviews. Please Beerintheevening, try to remain impartial, and stop giving in to these people. If they don't like bad reviews then they should improve their service!

This is a diverse pub with several different areas depending on your mood. There is an old style traditional bar, a conservatory area and a modern bar with decking that overlooks the sea to Crantock Beach. The latter is my favourite. The food is good quality traditional pub food with very generous portions. I would definately recommend this pub - it has a lovely atmosphere and the views are brilliant no matter what time of year - storm watching or summer sun!

I just read the review policy to check, as long as we show our connection with the establishment, it is "allowed" and we are also allowed to let our valued customers know things like, we now have SKY 3D ............. Man Utd v Chelsea this evening pulled in a great crowd............... though I'm not sure the glasses actually look that cool!? Luckily we can also show the ESPN channel on the other box, though only one Everton Fan came for that match!!! Sally Pickles, Manager.

Just come back from a holiday in Cornwall, and went here a few times. It has improved since the last time I was there. I noticed that they had more real ales on. As I recall they had Sharpes Doom Bar, Betty Stoggs, Eden and Tribute on. Also had a pint of the Rattler cider, which is quite potent. The food is good too, with the hottest served soup i've ever had! Although it's got a little pricey, it's still worth it. Just wish the weather had been better to enjoy the view more.
|
Has the most amazing views in the area, over looking Crantock Bay. Did not find the drink over expensive, but even so, worth paying a little extra for the views. Tried Rattler cider, was vrey tasty, but warning, very strong! Has the simple cod and chips. Fish not fresh and a little watery, but fairly tasty all the same. Other friends had Creamy Fish Pie and the Fish Platter, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed their meal (again, none was fresh which is a shame due to the pub's marine view). Meals also quite expensive for what it was...about 9-10 for a main meal, but not expensive enough to be put off. Definately worth a visit, especially if you are doing the coastal walk...a perfect place to rest and rejuvinate.

Very nice pub, great views of the bay below. Friendly staff, they even delayed the closing of the kitchen at lunch time, for some late arrivals.

Fantastic views from both pub and beer garden, food and beer very nice, highly recomend

Large, multi-roomed pub which is very popular. Beer was very good ( two cornish brewed real ales) and the food looked rather nice if a tad expensive. Great views.

Hi People,
This watering hole offers the veiws from any Pub that I have visited.
All the great bears on tap, served with great food. Food pricies are high but not extorionate. Bear prices the same as other pubs in Nequay.
I personally love to get a pint of Stella. Then go and sit in my car in the car park overlooking the Pentire Beach. The best time to do this is as the sun is just about to be switch off, with it low in the sky. The light shimmering accross the water.
Please enjoy people.
