Nothing on here beer-wise of note on my unplanned visit today - the clement weather and the pub's sunny aspect were what drew me in when roaming around looking for some sun-trap at which to enjoy lunch (other than the ever-reliable Dog & Bull which I did earlier in the week - got to respect variety if poss).
Saying that, the landlord was an affable cove, the place was seemingly in good decorative nick, and moreover the single cask ale - Young's Bitter - was kept just as capably as at the Dog, and sold at a similar price to boot. My basic but tasty toastie went down well for a couple of quid, and all in all it was a pleasant little lunchtime in the backstreets of Banghole, as I believe the area was once known.
Cheaper than the Standard, and the seating is not under a flyover. Bonus.

A few weeks ago the Bull's Head had a small beer festival, they had a couple of ales from Fyne Brewery, the Jarl was outstanding, the second and third pint were equally good and I believe the beers were £3.00. A nice quiet pub with decent locals.8/10. The perspex bike shed makes me laugh,i don't know why, something to do with school perhaps.

Had a beer in this place yesterday. They had Courage Best and Doom Bar on both in good condition. if you are a Whisky drinker this is the place to go, I counted at least six malts above the bar.

It is going great guns, Croydon CRAPPERS met there last week. Croydon Real ale Preservation Society. A decent pint of Cronx lurks within ( if your lucky).
|
Is the Bull's Head still open?
Went past in a cab the other night around 10-ish methinks; and it looked like the lights were out.

The Bull's Head are holding a Beer Festival from the11/13th October2012( usually most will be on gravity dispense). I've never had anything other than a superb pint here. This pub demonstrates the strength of real ale pubs in Croydon in most other towns it would be a GBG regular entry, a selection of three or four ever changing ales, pleasant service and it is a nice community back street pub near the centre of Croydon, as my last post stated this is a good bet for a pint of Cronx Brewery ales.
|
The Bull's Head are one of four pubs serving the new Cronx ales today Wednesday the 8/8/2012, the Brewers will attend at about 7p.m. for q&a and feedback. This pub always serves great ale,so an oppportunity to try the Cronx ales at their best.

Proper backstreet pub, with proper people. Four ales - small or micro breweries. As said below, it has some "characters", but decent beer & no frills. Compared with the Royal Standard (where I was stared at my pretentious up market locals), this was a welcoming place for a stranger

jolly pub good selection of real ales changed regularly, food available. juke box and live sports.

The Bull's Head have a beer festival this weekend,a dozen ales on stillage and three or four on handpumps. The Ginger Tosser (Skinners) was truly excellent, i've despaired of pubs serving beer at the correct temperature but my gravity dispensed pint was just perfect. The pub itself is a small "L" shape with a rather odd looking" bike shed" perspex smoking area outside where smokers huddle penguin like.An ale list is available to peruse on the bar for those who might be unfamiliar with some of the ales available a good geographical mix of ales from near and far i.e. Caledonian to W.J. Kings, I do not remember seeing any ales over 5 %.

...is holding a Beer Festival 1st-3rd September 2011. Cotleigh , Ascot etc.

OK pub with a real old fashioned Landlord. Good selection of ales (and lager) well kept at reasonable prices. A few...characters...from time to time but harmless. Festival at the end of August, getting on for 20 beers and a couple of cyders, Worth a visit. Stayed open when all else closed after the riots, good effort (if somewhat profitable)!

Primarily a locals pub, but nothing wrong with that. They do guest beers, which are often pretty good (they had Hogsback's TEA for a while, which is a personal favourite) although it remains primarily a lager pub. Can get a bit boistrous, but rarely any attitude. It's a decent place to go if you want a pint in a no airs and graces boozer.

The Bull has a beer festival starting on the 15th of April lasting three days.roughly sixteen ales and a cider. a mild will be included. the ale list includes Woodforde's Wherry and Hog's Back A over T (9%) it means Aromas over Tongham ( yeah right!). It would be rude not to go along and sink a few methinks.

This pub, plus the Royal Standard and Surrey Cricketers, comprises part of a triumvirate of local's boozers in this part of Croydon, all close to, but slightly off of, the main Brighton Road. This place is quite welcoming and serves a decent pint of Courage Best, but doesn't offer much else for the ale drinker. TV's for sports are available and for such a small pub, there seems to be plenty of seating to go round. Worth a look if you fancy a crawl round some of the less obvious pubs in the area, but not worth going out of your way for.
|
Old traditional rough and ready backstreet boozer, full of drunks getting drunker. Mainly a lager pub but my pint of Courage Best was OK. I suspect it serves it's regulars well but it has a fair amount of competition locally.
|
I occasionally pop in here during the summer, out of the way pub nice beer friendly staff.
|
Sorry to hear about the wife theft and the canine aroma Terry. Sometimes we just have to pick ourselves up and carry on.
As for the Bulls Head, it is a respectable back street local. The Guinness is decent and the regulars know their Phil Daniels from their Paul Daniels.
|
Some thug stole my wife and pushed me on the floor! It smelt of damp dogs I won't go in there again.
|
Staff OK but the pub was a bit shabby and smelly. I didnt think the London Pride was well kept.
|
Not so hidden away but you'd think so seeing as how quiet it can be when the main stretch of Croydon is quite busy...
Nice to have a Saturday afternoon drink in the sunshine, on the benches outside, even if its a bit cramped to watch the world go by, can still admire the blue sky...
The inside shows some good event and commoraderie possibilities on a good night...
|
Decent back street pub serving good beer. Friendly and smart enough.
Worth a visit. Only slightly off the beaten track and more charm than some of the larger hostelries on the main stretch that serve some of Croydon's finest philosophers and scientists.
A warm handshake from Terenced.
|
nice pub with nice staff and decent locals, but crap jukebox. i would probably go there more often but the Royal Standard with it's 4 ales is only 30 seconds away.
|
A pleasant back street traditional pub usually serving real ale.
|
One of the oldest pubs in Croydon. Just the place for a quiet pint and good food.
