The Kelly Arms closed permanently last year. It will never be a pub again as the building has a restrictive covenant on it forbidding it to be used as a place which sells alcohol i.e a restaurant, club, pub or bar. Another Kingston gem lost.

now closed again

Zoe now drinks at the bricklayers
Sadly true. The guv'nor has moved to the Fairfield Arms and the Kelly is shut, apparently for good.
Someone told me the other day that this pub is closing for good and the licence has been withdrawn. Another trad pub lost.
She quit. A shame she seems to have meant it.
What happened to Zoe? She was a great laugh and really knew her job. Where is she now? Would love to see her again.
Slerpy, doesn't matter how much it costs - if it looks cheap ...... ? However, the pub's great, what's the next event?
Oldcortina, Sorry I hope I am not having a pedantic moment but cheap gold is that not an oxymoron? It was $933 an ounce on Friday !
Great real pub. shame about the skin head barmaid with the cheap gold!!!!!!!
Overly loud laugh? more like a cackle. They should supply ear defenders when she is in the bar, either side. Pity she can't even pull a good pint.
Nice pub with a friendly atmosphere, but... Whats with the overly loud barmaid with the overly loud laugh?
Walking up to this pub it seemed closed as you cant see any lights on but luckily the sound of voices drew me in. It has the appearance of a backstreet locals pub. Now a one room pub, like so many others of course, but the glass in the doors still proclaims its multi room past - Private Bar Bottles and Jugs Public Bar. It now has a pool table and dartboard in an area at the back of the pub.
There were four handpumps two had no clips; one had a Gales HSB clip turned round, and the fourth was dispensing some distinctly average Bombardier, at 2.90 a pint. Actually its a fairly average pub. Nothing bad to say about it, but I dont suppose that I shall bother to visit again.

Getting better all the time. lots of locals who welcome new visitors. none of the stare and ignore stuff. Now open from 11am. Great pizzas available all day, all freshly cooked.
The person who wrote the review on 4th Feb is just a sad, childish idiot who goes into one when he cant get his own way. Oh well, there's always one. As for the pub, Its very well run, Douglas is a very good landlord who does not stand for any trouble. all the clientel are lovely people, some of whom travel from Epsom to get a great pint, All the staff are very efficient and friendly. a great pup to visit
The new Kelly is a welcoming locals' pub with pizza on the menu, a jukebox, and Fullers London Pride and Wells Bombardier on the pumps - nothing unusual but it's well kept. I have absolutely no idea what the previous reviewer means, insinuating 'be careful' - I had a good night in there with good conversation, as I have had before.
the landlord who looks after himself not his clients, but if you want to smoke in the pub after hrs it is good.
If you get out alive it was a good night, be carefull
One beer on, rotating between Woodforde's Wherry, Ringwood and Doom Bar. Looks like a locals' pub in that almost everyone in there is male and probably owns a dog. For all that Kev (formerly of the Waggon and Horses) is a good bloke and is running a clean pub.
And now reopened again!
...Ex-Kelly-Armus!
Oh dear, closed after the New Year, looks like it's going to be another lost cause.....time will tell...shame really but good idea in the wrong place.
Looks like a brawlers' paradise from without, but calm and relaxing floorboards within. I like a quiet pub, so I didn't mind paying a little extra for a choice of ales and a bit of peace and quiet. Monkey_feet has a point as, it might be a little awkward to eat there, but I didn't need to eat there and I can say I still liked it. Posh hand soap in the Gents just says to me 'come back, even thou, when all those other people don't want to eat', so even the toilet's a good place to think in. I am astonished, but I actually like it.

This has recently been done up and gone down the Gastro route. Thankfully though it didn't feel pertentious like a lot of them.
On the plus side, the building and interior are great with lots of traditional charm. The food was very good, and reasonable priced for one of these places. The staff were very attentive (but not overly) and friendly. The beer (Sussex) was nice and well looked after.
However, it needs to sort the atmosphere out. It felt a bit more like eating in a Library than a pub, even though there were quite a few people in there. You couldn't really have a conversation without expecting the whole place to hear. This could be sorted easilly with a bit of music and possibly dimming the lights a bit.
Deserves to do well for its plus points but needs to sort out a decent atmosphere quickly.

Empty as anything since the refit. See not EVERYONE likes gastro pubs
This evening they had "four" ales: Timothy Taylor Landlord (a bit warm), Gales HSB, Harvey's Sussex (alas, "still settling"), and Twickenham Naked Ladies (yum!). Good beers, but at almost 3/pint they're decidedly pricey. Definitely early days -- they've been open less than a week, and the place still smells of paint while they finish redecoration -- but there's potential...
This pub has now reopened under new management and with a refit that has kept much of its old charm. Four real ales on tap, including one from the Twickenham Brewery, all in good condition. Rumours of its death are greatly exaggerated!

Now closed
It's a real locals' pub and looks it. The pub has been knocked through into one at some point - 'saloon bar' and 'public bar' doors lead into the same space, but the general feel of the place is very trad. You almost expect to see Jack Regan sitting at a corner table with one of his snouts. Dartboard, darts trophies, posters incl 'Kingston by Tram' (the tram was the rescuing of Kingston after being sidelined by the railway). Fullers Pride (2.40/pt), Courage Best. Current licensees celebrate a year there on 19 November, 8pm: buffet, karaoke.

no way is this pub closing still plenty of life left in this old dog

Shame as one of the few charchater pubs left in Kingston.

Popped in yesterday (lived in the area 25 years ago & knew the old owners kids - the Potters?) Lovely old style pub and good selection of beer. However I HATE that local mentality of strangers walking in pubs and then getting the murmur along the lines of "Hes not local" when you leave. Its a PUBLIC House isnt it?
