My favourite pub in Ealing. Several ales on tap, a good darts setup, usually plenty of space and traditional community feel. Anybody who likes pubs will find themselves enjoying a pint here. The has a bit of history to it too as once upon a time it was used as a local coroner's court which met in the actual pub!

We stopped off for a pint on a Saturday afternoon tour of Ealing pubs, had a pint of the pubs own name beer (not sure who it brewed by) seemed pleasant enough as we stood in the courtyard area, didn't notice a dog or anyone taking drugs!
|
A decent and friendly pub in a quiet area just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Ealing Broadway station. Large covered area outside. Well worth a visit.

the dartboard is the wrong height but the dalmatian is awesome. the beer can be a bit off but the dalmatian is awesome. some of the common patrons snort coke in the toilets but the dalmatian is awesome.
|
A real hidden gem. Have been twice in less than a fortnight. Friendly staff and a real cosey local vibe to this pub and love the resident dalmation. Looking forward to the quiz night and the Saturday brunch

Both the Haven Arms are fairly unspoiled pubs not too far from Ealing Broadway. Last time I visited the Wheatsheaf, I should have tried the Haven Arms but instead walked on by. On Friday, I returned to give it a go. The bar staff were friendly and they had 3 ales on offer - Caledonian Deuchars IPA & Over The Bar & Wells Bombardier. The interior is fairly cosy and nicely decorated. Reasonably good.

In an area where too many of the local pubs have been overly 'gentrified', the Haven lives up to its name as a friendly, unpretentious back street boozer. Lively customers, ales on tap, a smattering of memorabilia on the walls but tastefully decorated, traditional and friendly. Also spacious so no trouble getting a table even on Saturday night. RECOMENDED for those after an establishment which embraces many of what you'd look for in a classic London boozer. 9/10

Shame that this pub is tucked away as i think it would suit the high street more. go in rarely but when i do the service is good and the staff are friendly
|
Best pub in Ealing I'd say, great pub hidden away a short walk from Ealing Broadway but far better than any of the pubs around there, top service and really well run.
|
Excellent pub! Well worth a short walk up from the station.
Not open some lunchtimes (?) but beer/food/service all excellent when they are serving.
Wish there were more pubs like this around
10/10

Brilliant local pub, great atmosphere and even better food! Love the fact they have a pool table and darts board. They also have quality local musicians.. Well done The Haven Arms....

Where to begin - this is a lovely little pub north of Ealing Broadway with friendly bar staff and a beautiful beer garden. It would be fair to say that the prices of the drinks could come down a tad but the food on offer in the pub is delicious.
Undoubtedly one of the main things that put this pub ahead of others within the Ealing area and the UK for that matter is the fact that it still has a pool table and darts board. For people that do not have a memory which stretches back before 2000, these two fantastic pastimes brought friends and enemies together in a forum of conversation and activity that made British pubs the unique enterprises they were. However, since 2000 all too many pubs have followed a path into their anal passage then north to a place of fancy named yet mediocre food, extortionate drink prices, and a serious lack of pub entertainment. Their reason? Well apparently these highly enjoyable pursuits, particularly pool has been accused of causing too much trouble in pubs. I guess I know what they mean since the other day a guy lost on the pool table and I clearly heard him say 'damn' - shame on him.
All in all a lovely place to go for a beer - rating 7.5

Ah. I meant mussels - of course - ha ha ha :)
|
First went there in 1963 when I was 17. I remember but prefer to forget the Watneys Red Barrell. But there was a skittle alley out back then And a formidable landlady who took a shine to me but allowed me 'just the one pint mind as you're a bit young looking'
Never disappoints and though very much changed since the 1960s I always go back when in the area.
Pubspy'spub of the year is definitely worth a visit. And since Google Streetview now not so difficult to find. Get there folks ASAP

Thank you for your comments MD16 but could you tell us from which animal the muscles came from.
|
Went here over Easter for some lunch, and it was excellent. I had lovely muscles in white wine sauce, and my boyfriend had the pork and it was very impressive - also under 20 for both of us!!! But it's not just the food that's impressive in this pub, the staff as mentioned above are genuinely interested and passionate about the place, it's a real pub, not a bloody gastropub, and it has proper locals and characters. I miss these pubs, there's too few of em about these days! Lovely location as well, tucked away amongst the houses. Will definitely visit again! :)
|
Since my review in October 2008, there's a new couple in charge of the place now and they excel in making you feel very welcome, without going OTT. Beer is acceptable, but the pub itself is a real charmer. I love it there and just wish I had the money to live in the immediate area.
If you've not been there, definitely worth a visit.

One of the few good boozers in Ealing (I also frequent the Red Lion and Wheatsheaf and won't be entering the debate - they serve different purposes).
The clientele: a good mix. From the rough and ready (while still friendly) to the students and people popping in for a quick pint after a day at the office. You get people drinking at the bar socially and there are tables for small groups who want to mind their own business.
The beer: solid, if unspectacular - if we're talking ales. I think the last pint I had there was an Old Speckled Hen, which was kept well.
The place itself: unpretentious and unspoilt by the dreaded "pub makeover". You probably wouldn't take someone here on your first date, but you'd definitely meet a few mates down there. A "pub dog" - a friendly dalmation - adds to the down-to-earth feel.
Well recommended!

Don't know if I should tell you this but ....
THIS MAY BE THE LAST REAL PUB IN EALING
If you come in more than a couple of times the bar staff will remember your order and if you tell them your name they'll probably get that too !
Compared to the brewery run chain Pubs this place has all the things they lack.
Here goes :
Character Individuality Top Staff Management that are interested in their jobs (and in doing them well) A couple of quality TVs with Sky Sports AND Setanta Pool Table Darts Quiz Night Poker (not for me but if you like that sort of thing) Don't like the music ask them (nicely) to change it and they will Live Music on a Thursday (nothing too loud - normally a fairly mellow duo) Proper freshly cooked food prepared by a full-time Chef (Sunday Lunch is an absolute must !) Spotless Loos Real mixed bag of customers from labourers to college lecturers, Businessmen to Students, Journalists to Engineers. If this isn't the easiest Pub in Ealing to strike up an intelligent conversation (without fear of violence) I don't know what is !
Ealing_Pubspy's PUB OF THE YEAR !!!

Lovely little pub tucked away down a side street off Haven Green in Ealing. The beer's good (Bombadier, Deuchars and one other I forget on the other night) and the other half like the house red. It's got a nice little beer garden off to the side and a tiny eating area tacked on the back. A bit crowded on Friday night but in a good way, and even then we found a place to sit. They've even squeezed in a tiny pool table. Definitely a keeper

Lovely pubbly.
|
This is a great little pub and a welcome break from the hussle and bustle of Ealing. Range of beers is ok and always well presented. My only criticsm being that they run out too often for my liking. Friends bar staff and management and you're made to feel very welcomer. Offers a quiz and poker night to it's customers during the week. BIG thumbs up!
|
On the face of it, it is indeed nothing special. This pub is much more than the sum of its parts. If you are in the area it's worth going to for a pint or staying for longer. I've always had friendly and prompt service. The only thing in the past that stopped me from going there more was the smoke which is no longer the case since the ban was introduced.
|
Decent pub around the corner from Ealing Broadway and arguably the best pub in Ealing, but when you consider the pubs in Ealing that's not saying a lot.
The real ale on offer was slightly unimaginative: Youngs, Bombardier and Old Specked Hen.
To be honest, I expected a lot more considering its in both CAMRA's Good Beer Guide and its Good Pub Guide.
My rating 6/10, but I am stingy and my expectations were for a 8/10 pub so I feel let down. Re: The whole Wheatsheaf vs. Haven Arms debate: The Haven Arms does have a better atmosphere and surroundings, but if its the beer your after the Fuller's pub wins (mmmmm...Honey Dew).
|
The ale could be better here, but it is a very good pub, with a nice atmosphere. Easy to stay and get drunk in, which for me is the mark of decent boozer. Yeah, it's better than the boring Wheatsheaf.
|
Top quality pub and a nice atmosphere, arguably the best pub in Ealing.
|
People who go to the wehatsheaf next door are probably the sort of people who like bland, Fullers-sponsored enormo-pubs decked out in a rustic style in accordance with their own marketed ideas of what a 'decent pub' should be. The Haven arms IS a decent pub - it's more like a pub up and down the country than any of those refitted ones - this is a real pub frequented by real people, a local. Obviously there are disadvanntages to this - the locals are colourful, the food is passable, the decor average, but for authenticity and easy going nature, i might venture that this is what i would tell foreigners a real pub was like - not something horrific like a tacky conversion. Even on a weekend you can get room in this pub, as everyone else seems to turn left out of ealing station. Go right, but not as far as the wheatsheaf, and you won't go far wrong.
|
This is a pretty good pub but not really anything special. The problem is that this pub is pretty good at most things but in every case there are better places to go. the Wheatsheaf next door is nicer and has better beer. the greystoke down the road has a better pub quiz and is better for watching sports. Shane really as if this were in another part of Ealing (on Uxbridge Road maybe) it would probably come out pretty well. As it is you'll more likely find me in one of the other two aforementioned pubs.

Better than the rest of the pubs around here but ultimately nothing special

Best pub to go to if you're out near the Broadway but want a proper pub. Good beer, nice atmosphere.
|
Brilliant pub wonderfull staff and atmosphere, the beer is second to none and I will be visiting again very soon.

Generally a good local EXCEPT for the football. Watched the Austria - England game in here and was totally fed up with the nazi abuse directed at anything Austrian. Left for the Wheatsheaf next door, which was much better.

refurbished not too long ago: good looking, good beer garden (for those three days of summer); choice of three real ales rather boring but well-kept; bit of an oik/NF atmosphere, but still above average.

This is the best pub in Ealing by a mile. Its basically a 'locals' pub but always welcoming even if your not a 'local'. Good service, great food, decent beer. Close enough to the Broadway etc. while being far enough off the beaten track to make it quieter and friendlier than the run-of-the-mill Ealing pubs.

lovely family-run pub with great atmosphere, good food and sky tv. As a newcomer to Ealing, made me feel very welcome - my new 'local' within weeks! Quiz night on Tuesday is hilarious and not to be missed!

Great pub with exceptional pub grub with plenty of choice on the menu . Efficient service and a good selection of well kept beers make this my favourite pub in Ealing.

Comfortable pub in a nice part of Ealing not far from the Broadway. It's a bit of a local institution with a long history. A painting on the wall depicts an autopsy carried out in the pub on a drowned girl in the 1830s. A recent refit has added a bigger bit for food and cleaned the place up a bit, but it's lost a little of its atmosphere. Fine leafy beer garden, excellent on long summer evenings. Good quiz, pool table, usual beers on tap. Very popular with locals, Nextdoor to the Wheatsheaf.
