Has undergone a refurbishment since I lived in the area and has lost some of the character it did have. Not a bad local boozer though and a good mix of characters. Hardcore and cliquey quiz night with some very determined players who don't seem to appreciate cocky strangers challenging their authority.

Refurbished Youngs' Pub on the New Kings Road, heavily food-orientated and quiet on a Tuesday afternoon when I dropped in. London Gold in good nick but expensive at 3.30. The decor in here is standard Young's modernisation; High tables & chairs, modern sofas 'n' benches and cream outdoor furniture. I left without it forming a lasting impression and perhaps this is due to its close proximity to the White Horse, which for my money is the best pub in London and outshines this place completely in terms of beer.

Great pub, have been here a many time and enjoy it always. The clientele are a good mix and have no prob with them. Food are mostly good. The desert chocolate is fantastic. Good range of beers also.

A smart pub, in a posh area - therefore a bit pretentious, but lovely surroundings to enjoy a beer.

Lovely bar, loads of gorgeous posh totty going 'Oh yar, sooooo super dahhhhling!' Love this place.

This is not a great pub, not when compared to the White Horse the other side of the green. I went there last night, after being told nothing but bad things about the hoity toity clientele and bad service and to be honest as I walked in I was surprised by the warmth and enjoyable bustle of the place.

After waiting a little for the bar staff to get in gear I gained a beverage and walked into the table area where about 50 seats were being used by a handful of people, mostly one to a table. I checked table one only to find it was booked from ten minutes earlier. Fine with this I moved to table two, also empty, also booked. In the end only three tables were free and they were taken so I returned to the bar.

Over the next hour the tables were not filled but there was nowhere to sit so we could no relax fully.

As for the clientele, it is true, to be a regular plums in the mouth are essential, younthful overspilling from the Old Kings Road aplenty. A blonde who in 20 years will be a hefty Sloane Warrior, pearls and all, did shout to her equally blonde friend the question "you want a drink, yar, how about a white wine spritzer?"

My recommendation: Only go if already drunk, not wanting to sit, or if you are going there are part of a polo reunion with Tarquil, Curruthers, Strangely Brown and Pinkington-Smiythe, all with collars up, all in Barbour. Better still just head to the White Horse, it is infinitely better.

We've always been fans of this pub - enjoying its meals and atmosphere. However, unfortunately we've found recent meals quite disappointing in quality and price. Is such a shame, not sure what has happened?

I highly disagree with the last comment. The Duke is a lovely pub, not cheap of coutse, but it's posh Fulham. Staff always courteous but food a little ott for my liking. Youngs bitter always excellent and very nicely chilled here. 8 out of 10.

No longer a pub, but an "eaterie". A "gastro-pub".

Used to be our local, but no more.

All the regulars have been chased away by an over-zealous staff keen to get everyone eating food (and presumably earning tips). Staff now unpleasant and officious.

A real shame.

Not a pub. A "bar brasserie". We were informed this by the snippy waitress as she moved us from sofa to sofa one saturday night explaining they had been reserved. As we'd just bought a 25 bottle of wine this was a bit galling and particularly as there was a dining area. I'm not aware that you can usually book tables in pubs but this is explained by it being a "bar brasserie". When we perched on the window sill and I said sarcastically as she walked past "is this reserved to?!" she went "oooooooooooooh very good". Customer care and charm personified! Full of a lot of braying young toffs. Its good if you like this kind of thing. This place is run by the same geezer as the Britannia in Kensington.

Nice selection of Youngs beers, its all very nice inside albeit a bit expensive and some nob'eds there, as long as its quiet then I would advise a nice ale and a chill on the sofa's.

nice place

Winter Warmer was really on the money on Wednesday night which seems to be especially difficult to find in Young's houses this year since the brewery took up sticks to bedfordshire. Still a strong alternative to the WH.

I've been frquenting the Parson Green area on and off for 26 years since Sally took over the White Horse and it is great to see the Duke finally transform into a superb watering hole.
I drink there quite a lot and the menu is mouth watering BUT I had the opportunity to eat one of their BURGERS recently... BAD choice. The presentation was good but I have no idea what meat was used. It looked and tasted like soggly reconstituted plastic. Avoid them like the plague! Even McDonalds taste better.
I will, however, return and try something else off the menu soon.

One of the best pubs in Fulham (and Chelsea I'd add and only just on NKR).

Very large and spacious, excellent table service even when it's full to the rafters! Food is good too. It's also open late most days (incl Sunday)and the staff never hassle anyone.

Yes, there are a lot of Sloanes and Hoorays but what do you expect in SW6!

Nice pub, very good atmosphere and pleasant staff. Food was great and lovely wine list. Will be back!

Good pub, had a lovely Sunday lunch today. First visit. Will go back.Have to try the chocolate pudding!

Was very suprised to stumble onto this pub and could only remember it being a dingy watering hole. It has been transformed after a revamp!Nice staff, good beer and even better food.Pricey but worth every penny.Keep up the great service.

Nicest pub in the area. Comfortable, friendly staff with good food and grog. Although going on weekend nights it is packed, and not as comfortable but have managed to avoid not finding a seat by booking a table in advance.Well worth a visit!

What a fantastic venue for Great food & Service. I absolute transformation from the dodgy boozer it used to be!Great atmosphere and decent toilets!!Jam packed on weekends with lots of hotties!Highly recomended, a damn side better than what now seems to be turning into a dodgy boozer over the park!Hoorah for the Duke and keep up the good work.
SassyJ - 1 Jun 2006 20:17
Awful - this was once an okay youngs boozer where you could enjoy a grog and some nosebag. Admittedly there was the odd local pikey from the estate up the road (giro in pocket), half cut looking for a rumble with an unsuspecting punter but none the less a solid public house. Now it's just a pants identikit bar packed to the rafters with braying rahs smoking mummies sobrani's and supping on chablis - all I can say is" Tarquin, Arabella, Algenon..red jeans down, loafers off...lets skull an anal pint..raaaahhhhhh"!!!
big_dog - 13 Apr 2006 09:56
Sloane ranger's meet point. Rowdier than the civilised and sedate surroundings of Aragon House and almost impassable of a Friday / Saturday night. However, an important pit stop to make on occasion just to see if there has been any improvement, because without the patrons and the just-short-of-decent barstaff it would be an excellent bar.
Though, I confess I have never stayed here for more than 2 drinks and most of the time not even that...
Dr_Will - 1 Mar 2006 11:15
sat down with my pint, and started to take in my surroundings, i tried to ignore the braying mares through the cigarette smoke, i tried to ignore the "thump thump" of pointless non-descript music, i chuckled at Fosters Ice on the "global" beer list. I'm struggling to find something positive to say, well the Youngs Beer was fine, the menu looks genuinely enticing, but anyway back to the present, i drank up and made a sharp exit over to the other side of the Green. There is some rumour about that this place is suppose to be giving the White Horse a run for its money, but i'm convinced it emanated from an orifice not normally associated with verbal communication.
moclips2002 - 17 Feb 2006 16:38
Brilliant friendly service. Excellent food. Good atmosphere. Expensive but worth it. Very well run. Genuinely better than the White Horse. Very, very impressed.
Oisin - 11 Feb 2006 13:26
That rare thing, a refurbished pub that is better than what went before. Well worth a visit.
edwardx - 10 Feb 2006 11:28
Has changed the name to "Duke on the Green". Went there for the first time sept. 05 and it's obviously modernized lately. Found a beer menu with tasting notes for their Youngs beer range.

Going back a lot further, when this pub was a small alehouse frequented by workers in the market garden, it was called the Pond Head. It was originally founded in 1710 and renamed the Duke's Head in 1804. The Pond Head was notorious as a rough place; one night a fight broke out there, so violent that four gardeners were killed.

Howay the gardeners! :-)

Many moons ago I was for 3 years the Manager of this historic pub...It was indeed a "typical Youngs boozer" back then, not the wine bar it became on my next visit after leaving.I thought I had gone into the Shite Horse over the Green !! So it pleased me somewhat to see the refurbishments.Such a pity the clientelle that once was, appear on my last 2 visits to have found other watering holes,as I saw one familiar face in those 2 visits !!! Good luck Youngs and "The Duke" for a healthy future.

The Duke is now a much, much better place to spend some quality time. I went in last Saturday afternoon for a pint and the papers and the place was sparkling since its recent refit. Not only that, but the original tiling has been buffed up in the main bar and now looks magnificent.
I found an enjoyable menu, tasty Ordinary, friendly service, comfortable sofa's, welcome air con and a batch of the days newspapers to leisurely work through. The lack of a TV, a fruit machine and the usual kegged suspects is more likely to tempt the White Horse clientele across the green rather than the oiks that regularly made up a small number of its customers in its previous incarnation. My experience was on a non matchday, so I cannot guarantee that peace breaks out here every other Saturday when the blues play at home, but its worth jumping on the District Line to find out.

I am rather surprised by some of the previous comments. This is a good pub. It has a large open area at the front, which suits large groups. It has tables running next to the bar and in the back area that suit small groups. The decor is nice, with wood and vintage tiles predominating. The beers are good, with a usual range of Young's. The only food I have had is Sunday lunch, but this cannot be missed. It is a really great meal. Make sure you go there hungry! All in all, this pub is a quality place to relax and meet friends, it also suits if you want to bring a crowd. It beats the Hell out of the Sloaney Pony accross the Green and Aragon House down the road.
paulgough - 9 Mar 2005 13:19
Used to work there a couple of years ago. Met the love of my life. It has lost its touch of late though and the regulars are drinking elsewhere. Good fun on a Chelsea home game.
fionafraser - 6 Mar 2005 13:40
absolutely awful... been there after a rugby match.. full of drunken lads asking for a fight and been sleazy to women
Frances - 26 Aug 2004 15:17
Consistently good quality Young's. Friendly staff and never too packed. Food sketchy but just stick to the ale.
Gary - 13 Apr 2004 20:38
Good pub considering its Youngs. Loads of room and good service. Great for beer after Chelsea. Like the biography of the Duke of Cumberland what a dirty dog!
ChopperHarris - 3 Nov 2003 13:40
Spacious, not too smokey, lovely bar staff and I've always been served fairly quickly - even on match days - which is more than I can say for some other pubs in the area!
ChrisBass - 29 Sep 2003 11:00
Big ornate Young's pub on a street corner. The usual range of good Young's beer; Victorian decor including tiled walls. Clientele varied from a group of young Aussies to older locals. Evening Standard pub of the year in 1971 and pretty good now.
