please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A Fullers pub serving their usual range and done up in their theme.....ie a large internal space decked out to resemble a London 'gin palace' of the late 19th century..... but has zero atmosphere. Beer was of course expensive but not as expensive as the Brewdog pub across the road.
Alright but certainly nothing special.
ridleyman - 31 May 2018 11:57
Nice enough looking building from the outside but however once in I was disappointed.

The place had zero atmosphere and the price of our drinks was a joke.

Drank up quick then left.

3/10

Large, charmless place, friendly enough staff, must be lots of nicer places in Bristol
Diogenes - 26 Sep 2014 21:50
A charmless ale house with no redeeming features, the Fuller's beers although drinkable were outrageously priced. Fuller's pubs never seem to work outside of London (the Old Joint Stock in Birmingham being a notable exception), for some strange reason.

Very poor.
nokegthanks - 16 Sep 2014 15:12
Called in on Saturday lunchtime, place was very busy with football fans watching the Arsenal v Tottenham game on the big screens. Full range of Fullers beers available. Not the place for a quiet pint
PoorBeerHater - 21 Nov 2012 10:35
Large City Centre pub which was showing the England v Ireland rugby game on several large screens on our visit. It was quite busy but it had a great atmosphere, in a good looking building, whilst the pint of Butcombes was in good condition.
Top marks however to the manager, Ben.
He was very friendly and clearly runs a good ship here. He went out of his way to speak to us to make a group of Yorkshiremen welcome. The Old Fish Market is certainly worth a visit on any pub walk around Bristol.

SouthYorkshireman - 22 Mar 2012 21:18
Very busy on Saturday lunchtime with many watching the Liverpool-Man U match. Very much like being in a big Fuller's pub in London, although at 3.25 a pint I have drunk a lot of cheaper London Pride in the capital in recent times (it was a fair pint though). This is a good place for those who like to drink in a bustling but friendly atmosphere.
Stamfordian - 17 Oct 2011 12:27
Clearly I had not been in here for a while as i'd forgotten how expensive , choice well nothing you wouldn't expect to see in a fullers pub lp , esb , discovery, ever always guest trad Butcombe at 3.50 a pint a trifle expensive me thinks, didn't stay long. london pub london prices

Well kept boozer with Thia and standard bar meals available. Fullers plus guest which was Buttcombe Bitter when we callen in.
LickeyEndBooze - 6 Mar 2011 18:11
Good solid Fullers pub - great ales, nicely busy on a week night - didn't try the Thai food, but it it seemed very popular!!
hotrods - 11 Feb 2011 20:11
A good drop of Butcombe Bitter and I must admit I was very nearly tempted by the smell of Thai food wafting across the bar (but Pieminister pies awaited later). The Sky TV sports news channel was on but with no sound so it was not distracting and overall this is a good pub - worth a visit.
mcroyal - 24 Nov 2010 22:58
Called in for lunch and some ESB last week. Great character pub with top class ales and superb food. Bar staff friendly too. People of Bristol - consider yourselves lucky to have pubs like this!
johnny.sausage - 19 Nov 2010 11:39
Karaoke... I think not. The only time that Karaoke graced the pub was September 08, as part of a charity week.
Plenty of cracking ales coming soon - Red Fox, Bengal Lancer & London Porter.
Simply the best pub in Bristol if you like Beer, Sport & food. Well, that's me sorted anyway.
Donnypimp - 23 Aug 2010 18:08
Used to be a good pub, not sure any more. When I was last in there, it had gone way downhill, even had karoke, what's all that about?
JockStrap - 2 Aug 2010 16:13
Interesting Fullers pub that boasted the usual suspects on draught. We'd had a long walk from our hotel and I was parched so I didn't fancy an ale - went for the Aspalls Cider to refresh myself, which was fine. It was very busy indeed in here, perhaps due to the Koln vs Borussia Monchengladbach clash that was being shown on the TV. Last time I visited this place they were showing the Rugby League - not this time however. Not much to report really, even though it was busy it was mostly simpletons in their Lyle and Scott v-neck jumpers drinking Grolsch standing up, so we had no problem finding a relaxing pew. One twit dropped his Corona (including lime) by the quiz machine, so we had to be wary while we played PDC Championship Darts. Probably go back again.
Sharp - 21 Mar 2010 20:14
Impressive decor and the Fullers ownership means some different beers to what you'll find elsewhere in the city - always good to see the London Porter on draught.
daveinbrum - 16 Feb 2010 17:54
Impressive looking pub which was rather busy due to the Rugby, lot more space round the back though as people more interested in the tv screens. Good range of Fullers beers and the Porter was excellent but 6.50 for 2 pints mind you. Got a taste of the 5% Bengal Lancer beer, will try that next time but you can't refuse the Porter!!
Booze_Allen - 8 Feb 2010 17:13
large pub, visited during 6 nations rugby so packed but it's so big with lots of cubby holes so got a seat. Full range of Fuller's beers kept in good nick, slighty pricey though, the London Porter is superb however & the bar staff took time out to give taster glasses of a new beer. Highly recommended.
Abteilung - 6 Feb 2010 16:37
Archectecturally impressive pub. Well-kept Fuller's beer including the superb London Porter. Worth a visit.
baxterfish - 12 Jan 2010 15:19
Large pub a few minutes from the city centre, which can get fairly packed at times. A couple of plasma's around which tend to show major sporting events. Friendly enough staff and a large bar.
Several Fuller's beers on tap, including ESP, Discovery and London Pride, plus Butcome Bitter. A couple of more unusual ciders on offer - Symonds Founders Reserve and Aspall's Suffolk.
Blackthorn - 20 Dec 2009 22:55
An interesting old building, with a smart and tidy layout in the main area in front of and to the sides of the bar and some characterful wooden booths further back. A wide selection of Fullers beers, including the seasonal Red Fox which was in excellent condition and which went very well with the Thai food.
rpadam - 10 Oct 2009 10:59
Don't normally rereview so quicky ,but have been dinking in here a lot lately mainly because its the nearest cricket showing venue near work. I like the pub , my only personal and perhaps major problem bore out by the fact that they are selling Butcombe , is that Fullers lack a decent session BEER , lp I don't like , seafarers yuk , and Discovery although passable , when passed to a lager drinking workmate the other night "said oh I could drink that "in other words if someone didn't tell you what it was it could pass for lager. ESB is great but at 5.5 per cent , session beer it ain't . i know a lot of people will disagree ,and that's fair enough .
beatles38 - 23 Aug 2009 12:58
I've been back a few times in the last few months. The atmosphere has been much more pleasant than before, and the beer quality is always very good.
LukeD - 13 Jul 2009 10:50
been drinking in this pub lately , mainly because i've been watching the cricket , have to say not a great fan of fullers , but one champion beer was very good .A nice pub though

Contrary to some other opinions, I thought the Thai food was excellent and really good value, but as this is beer in the evening, I shall move on to that! Fullers pub so you get London Pride, Discovery and ESB. They seem to have Butcombe bitter on as a permanent alternative to the Fuller range and the 'guest' was Seafarers from Gales, but as Gales was bought out by Fullers it is highly debatable whether you could count it as such. The latter was served in excellent condition and a good place to watch the Ashes on the big screen this summer. I agree with Quinno in that it's not exactly a summer pub however and is fairly dark and gloomy inside - good for sun dodgers I guess
Dandillus - 12 Jul 2009 17:06
A pretty pub frontage conceals a cavernous polished-wood interior which awaits those who venture inside, alongside a good selection of Fuller's ales plus at least one, if not two guests. Like the majority of Fuller's outlets, the beer is in good-to-excellent condition.

The interior is perversely the selling point and downfall of the pub. When quiet, you feel very isolated. When it's busy the atmosphere is good but the high ceilings amplify the noise and it can get difficult to hear your companions. It also fails to catch the late evening sunshine, which makes the inside seem a bit gloomy unless they get the lights on early. As mentioned elsewhere, a hefty walk to the traps so make sure you leave a good couple of minutes lag time!

Overall, I'd recommend the place if you're in the town centre but wouldn't necessarily say it's worth seeking out as an experience in the same way that, for example, the Bag O' Nails is. But if you're in a big group of mixed drinkers, this is a sure-fire bet for everyone to be happy for a couple of hours.
Quinno - 21 May 2009 18:15
Overpriced food lacks any quality‎ -
Our starters included sesame prawn toast - no sign of any prawn between the 'fried bread' and sesame seeds! You pay on ordering and we were refused a refund when voicing our disgust of the pitiful attempt to produce this simple starter.
The prawn and pork dumplings were passable though few for the price.
Pad Thai Prawn noodles - 8 skewered prawns on a bed of noodles, lacking in corriander and other vegetation but again passable and overpriced.
The Pub Burger comes complete with cheddar and bacon in 'rustic bread' salad and fries. It was very dry, very little tasteless cheddar and the fries were an overcooked crunchy affair that should never have left the kitchen.
Though a fine pub with an excellent selection of real ales, I could not recommend anybody eating here, especially considering the choice of eateries in the area.
The Old Fish Market advertises itself as a Gastro pub but I have found far better quality food from many take-a-ways and at a fraction of their overblown prices. Do not eat here but do drink the fine variety of ales!

Food Rating - 3/10 Beer rating - 9/10 Bar rating - 7/10
festybloke - 9 May 2009 12:20
Quick service with a smile in this lovely old building. The bar was kept immaculate but the toilets weren't. Will make a repeat visit soon as I can.
beersup - 23 Feb 2009 11:46
Went there today for a spot of food. It is fairly cheap, but pretty average. The chicken in my thai green chicken curry was heavily water-injected and had a rubbery texture. The sauce was Ok.
The rice was described on the menu as 'fragrant rice,' but was just plain boiled rice and smelt of nothing but starch.

Beer was fine. Atmosphere was unpleasant due to some chavs repeatedly swearing very loudly.
LukeD - 12 Feb 2009 23:56
Visited last month and found it to be a good clean Fullers house. Enjoyed Fullers ESB.
gillhalfpint - 18 Jan 2009 00:28
This is a good pub, with decent food(bit pricey) and ales. I always feel though slightly uncomfortable in here as it has a locals feel to it who seem to frequent the same spots each time I go in.
hammers101 - 2 Jan 2009 11:02
Fullers pub serving the standard range of Fullers beers plus Butcombe as a permanent guest. Other guest beers from the Fullers/Gales portfolio may feature. This is THE pub to watch live sport in central Bristol if you want a decent pint too. Thai food also available.
pcummings - 31 Oct 2008 00:01
Good all-round Fullers house...plenty to choose from including Discovery on Handpull.....nice Barmaid too...one of the better efforts in BS1!!
bitterboy1970 - 25 Oct 2008 10:18
If you're in this part of town it's an excellant alternative to The Apple (if you don't like cider!) and definately an excellant alternative to the Landoger Trow!
mattbeer - 21 Oct 2008 01:23
Good Fullers pub. Nice pint of Butcombe Bitter followed by the ever heavenly London Porter, all be it in bottled form. Packed due to the England game on, so would like to revisit when a bit quieter.
JonW999 - 14 Oct 2008 08:10
The Fish Market is the king of lunchtime pubs with friendly staff, sparklingly clean surfaces and a nice atmosphere.
moozer - 26 Sep 2008 12:35
Good city pub with range of beers (Fullers ESB, London Pride, Discovery, Honey Dew and Butcombe's Bitter). I had ESB, Discovery and Honey Dew and all three were in tip top condition.
BobOs - 22 Aug 2008 20:17
large pub ,stocks a very good range of real ales .great place to watch sport , good food . an oasis of a pub for real ale in this area.
beatles38 - 1 Aug 2008 08:49
Visited on a Saturday afternoon and had a fine pint of ale. Football was on the TV. Interesting carved wood interior with large paintings. Thai food was available. However, they had shut all the blinds so it was really dark.
ed007 - 29 Jun 2008 01:32
The reason for the problems with ESB is that it is not the same beer it once was. I guess that you've been out of the trade for some time. Whenever a brewer has to 'up' production because one of its beers becomes popular, it seems all of the beers from that brewery suffer (Abbott is a case in point).
Also pub managers are no longer employed because of their cellarmanship, but purely on their presentation of themselves (just like politicians, who are selected because of their style rather than ability)
chopin - 18 Apr 2008 23:42
Nice Fullers pub with the range generally in good condition apart from the ESB which all too often is badly conditioned, cloudy despite Fullers major efforts & changes in getting their premium brew out to their outlets in tip-top nick. Back in the day when I was in the trade I never had any problems keeping/serving ESB at all so I do wonder why so many pubs (Especially Fullers own pubs!) *still* have problems considering Fullers now cellar it longer before sending it out frankly making it childs play to keep/serve?!?
MisterX - 31 Mar 2008 21:02
More cramped than the outside would suggest, but otherwise a very nice place to kick off your evening in town(helped by its 'just-over-the-bridge-location'). As you would imagine, everything Fullers' related kept and served very well, even the often-temperamental Discovery
getsit - 27 Mar 2008 23:30
Fantastic well kept selection of Fullers Ales, 9/10
fat_beer_badger - 1 Jan 2008 16:12
Biggish city centre pub which manages a good compromise between populist appeal and traditional boozer.

Good range of Fullers beers, Butcombe Bitter, and very occasionally another guest. Nice, efficient staff who do a great job when it's busy.

Re the big tellies - ooh, essential, IMHO! The OFM is about the only pub in the centre of Bristol which offers the combination of Sky footy and a good pint on a Sunday afternoon.
ranking.rupert - 1 May 2007 20:49
Big pub, good service! Would certainly visit again.
Gazza1982 - 19 Mar 2007 13:56
Nice, large, Fullers pub.

Much polished wood.

Full range of well kept Fullers.

Haven't tried the Thai fare.

Don't know why they have the big telly's - even when they are on, a lot of the clientele just aren't interested.

Might do better to make a selling point of not having them, since central Bristol is more than adequately served in this regard.

I digress - basically sound, though not life-changing
Joan_Crawford - 4 Jan 2007 18:27
Fine Fullers pub in the centre of Bristol. Still badged as a Fullers Ale and Pie pub despite the fact that they are now offering Thai food - the only Fullers Ale and Pie currently so doing unless anyone else knows different
JohnBonser - 1 Dec 2006 13:30
Nice pub with a fantastic exterior! Fullers ales not bad either. Quiet areas to sit round the back.
tanglewood - 3 Nov 2006 21:18
Good well kept Fullers ales. A very tasty Thai menu
alewhale - 30 Aug 2006 20:42
I will say this for Fullers pubs they seem to care about their ale and I have never had a bad pint here. Somehow the atmoss is better at lunch time and I would never go there in the evening as its just not the same pub. Food is portion controled standard fare but good enough to fill a gap and not hurt your pocket. Overall a good effort but that long walk to the can can take a nerve of steel and strong bladder control. Fast efficient and friendly staff.
DickStilton - 22 Nov 2005 15:09
Not a bad boozer, good beer and food. But why o why have a pub with 3 massive screens and not show sport?
JockStrap - 9 Nov 2005 17:38
Large pub which was quite busy on Saturday tea-time. Friendly staff and friendly locals, good range of real ales available - not bad at all !

Scousefire - 25 Sep 2005 18:20
Best introduction to Bristol pubs you can have: good pint, good mix.
phantomdrinker - 19 Feb 2005 20:49
Beer is excellent
Gavinda - 27 Feb 2004 14:08
No real atmosphere. It's the sort of place where you might go for a pub lunch with your workmates but that's about it. Beer was OK, food was alright. I can feel my self nodding off already.

Oh and the toilets seem to be in Bath via a strange underground tunnel. Set off early if your bladder control's not great.
Rufus - 10 Nov 2003 16:17
I used to work here but haven't been in for ages, in my day it was a fantastic pub with good food, excellent beer and the staff where fantastic.
Mark - 6 Nov 2003 12:59
Typical Fullers establishment. Shame the bar-staff are so miserable.
anthony2 - 23 Sep 2003 00:29
Dark, old-fashioned pub, fine.
Vindaloo - 26 Aug 2003 17:00
