Okay place, just about. The lady behind the bar was friendly enough. My pints of Ringwood Brewery’s Forty-Niner hit the spot – lighter tasting than I expected for a 4.9% beer. Some of my companions didn’t like their choice. The baguettes were poor quality bread, but the salad was nice and fresh (which is so often a fault). I wouldn’t return here. Very quiet at lunchtime.

Re visit with my wife, pub smelt of carbolic and the landlord was just bloomin' rude, bade farewell without buying a drink or food. Based on the previous comment all may not be well here?

Tried to visit the Pheasant on a recent Sunday evening. About 9.30 in evening, stools on tables, lights mostly out, with that sort of welcome, gave it a miss. Sorry, if you can't be bothered to look as if you want business, then it is n't going to come in

Great friendly pub right next to the bus station. There was a beer festival on and there were about 12 beers when I visited yesterday.

Really super pub inside with a lovely dining area and seperate upstairs function room but very poorly kept real ale- on my two visits there (Oct 2011 & Dec 2011) both pints were undrinkable but happily exchanged. 6/10

Friendly, really pretty pub - and that's not just the bar staff ! - great meeting place for lunch ( 2 courses - 10 - bonus ! ) with car park adjacent, just off the marketplace. Very clean, good choicve of well priced food ( only snacked but will go back ! ) and good range of real ales inc Ringwood, Hop Back and one other. Beer Festival at the end of November so may buy a tent and move here. Unless the barmaid will have me !

Great pub in Salisbury, good range of beers and well kept. Slightly biased as I fell in love with the barmaid... so probably better disregard this as I'd have the same review of a Weatherspoons if she worked there.

Still fantastic - beer festival planned for end of May Bank Holiday and they've just been awarded CAMRA's LocAle award for serving local cask ale too ! Comfortably busy when we visited ( break from Saturday shopping ! ) but definitely going back on Monday evening as see all Cask Ales advertised at 2.50 every Monday night - nice to see something being given back to the customers ! Good on you !

Sweet little place. Everything you'd expect in a traditional pub - even the landlord who doesn't know when to stop talking as he's got so many stories to tell! Seriously though, plenty of different corners in which to sit, an excellent range of ales, and a good selection of unpretentious meals all of which could be described as 'pub classics'.

Excellent - it's re opened as a proper PUB - 3 guest ales, proper British pub food from sharing plates / sandwiches at around 4.50 / head through to really good steaks, grills and roasts at a really reasonable 12 - 15. No rip off prices here - wine is 12 - 16 per bottle - really friendly staff, comfy bar and eating areas ( nicely broken up so you can have a drink without sitting in the midst of diners - ( like pubs used to be !! ) - comfy armchairs, two fires - beats home !! 3 real ales on with Ringwood and 2 guest ales, 2 lagers, good wine list, table board games and outside smoking area - ticked all our boxes and will definitely go again !

both ales off when visited and 3.00 for a pint of Strongbow was a bit steep. Quite a nice pub though all the same so scrapes a 7/10 in my books.

So the landlord has finally switched to English food.
The Thai was good, but the English menu is way above what I expected, and the food really is superb. Don't know where he got the chef from but he has got a gem!
Try the Chiken with pistacio and pork stuffing.....fantastic!
Quality at last in Salisbury!

New landlord is taking the piss with prices. When he took over the price of a pint of 1664 went from 2.85 to 2.95, now he is charging 3.10. I won't be going back

I went in here on a Saturday night and the place was dead - about half a dozen (Thai?) women eating and about four men, plus a couple sitting in the corner. It seemed odd because the place is huge. There were 3 real ales - London Pride, Ringwood Best & Courage Best. The Pride I had was fine, but a bit expensive (I think) at 2-60 a pint - but then Pride always does seem to be expensive for its strength anyway.

Under new management again, and obviously for the better! Went in with some trepidation (lats time I wlked in I walked straight out) to get out of the rain and glad I did. Quiet place, lovely staff and good beer.
Didn't try the Thai food but will soon.

Lovely little pub. I went there in the evening during the week when there was a nice mix of locals (mainly quite welcoming) and visitors. The beer was well kept. The background music was just that, in the background, the staff were efficient. I agree with what Moonlight said, a village pub in the middle of a city.

I visited the pub in October 2004 with my family. They gave us our requested cream tea on a Sunday, by special dispensation, even though cream teas are usually only available on weekdays. I was introduced to Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps there (they gave us a complimentary one with our teas). I thought the place was beautiful, the service excellent and I'd definitely go back again. Unfortunately, it's a long trip from Canada!

Nice, friendly pub. Good range of beer, including real ales. Serve home cooked food (should check because they don't always do it). Mixed crowd of young and old. Depending what else is happening in the area depends whether it's busy on a certain night of the week or not. Feels like your village pub in the middle of a city.
