Really friendly pub with great beer!

I have visited this pub on a number of occassions and I have nothing but good things to say about it.
The bar side of this pub has a very classic English feel to it. Warm, cosy, friendly and timeless - many characteristics that are lacking in many pubs these days. They also have a restaurant that has a modern twist without losing the warmth and cosiness of a traditional English pub.
The beer was of a very high standard and it is clear that the landlords take great pride in their pub. I was fortunate enough to meet the landlords who I found to be very polite and friendly.
In regards to the dog mentioned in the above review - I think that even non-dog lovers would struggle to stop from falling in love with the loveable hound. He adds to the loving feel of this pub !!
The food I have had here has always been impeccably good and I know for a fact that the restaurant has an excellent name throughout Essex for their fish and chips!
Overall I can say nothing but good things about this pub - great food, friendly atmosphere and most importantly.....GREAT BEER !!!! An excellent example of a British Pub.

The pub has a 1 star hygiene rating. The Friday fish and chip van has 5 stars and tastes better and cheaper. The Danbury Fryer is doing very well (cheaper). The Bakers Arms has had its day.

It has been a few years since I used this pub as we moved out of Essex and how things have changed - what used to be a real nice traditional "drinking pub" full of character and many characters is now basically a not very good fish and chip shop! The once popular public bar which had a well used Pool table in it is now a "new improved dining area"?? The most exciting thing about this pub now is the large Pub dog - and even he/she looks thoroughly bored! What a Shame another good pub bites the dust!

The Bakers Arms used to be a nice local pub with good beer and a friendly atmosphere. It has been turned into a shabby overpriced low class diner serving fried and microwaved frozen food. The beer quality has dropped, due to the poor turnover I guess, and quite often you can be the only one in there apart from the smelly pub dog. The landlord/lady appear very rude if you don't eat and service is dreadfull, a harsh review, but no point saying its nice if it isn't.

A traditonal exterior but heavily modernised inside. Sadly only does Greene King beer even though the landlord has access to a monthly beer list.

Bit limited with range of beers: Greene King IPA and Abbot plus Guinness and various lagers. Pool and darts. Very friendly staff and very good atmosphere. Good pub food and takeaway fish and chips. Worth popping in if you're passing through and worth being a regular if you're a local.
