Crown Stirrup, Lyndhurstback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Bit of a let down this place. It's certainly seen better days! But, it is a genuine 'real pub' so that is a plus point. Usual bland Ringwood offerings.

Been back to the Forest recently and had time to visit a few Lyndhurst pubs.
Called in to The Crown Stirrup again for a quick pint.
No problems with the quality of the beer this time, 49er on good form but sadly no other beers available. Price is now on a par with, or slightly less than other pubs in the area.

Call in for a pint during a weekend visit to the Forest, very pleasant pub with a garden directly adjoining the Forest, nice to see a proper log fire too.
Signs outside proclaimed new owners and new menu.
Sadly the beer was expensive and not particularly good. It also seems to be one of those pubs where the price is inflated for 'tourists'.
I wish the new owners well, but they really need to look to the quality of their beer. Having the bar staff tell you that the beer will 'clear in a minute because it's nearly the end of the barrel' does not inspire confidence...
Didn't try the food as we were walking on to another location.

I see it has been quite a while since the last post about the Crown Stirrup. It has had it's ups & downs with a couple of changes of landlord. The latest are trying hard to make the pub more of a success. The range of real ale is rather limited, usually just one or two on offer but they are well kept so no complaints there. The food is really quite basic pub fare so doe's not really justify some of the prices charged. I have eaten there on several occasions but always make sure it is something simple to prepare. Last time I had the ham egg & chips. It was ok but nothing special. Two smallish eggs & thin probably processed ham. The baguettes are better value. Three of our group had ordered soup. This unfortunately was served in cold bowls, with cold rolls & was a rather small portion. After pointing this out the soup was topped up & warm rolls appeared.
The staff are attentive, try to please & the pub is quite a homely place. So I wish them well.
A current realistic rating would be a 7

Real ales in good condition, friendly service with home made food. Excellent interior, recommended!

Excellent pub - entirely agree with OP. The beers on tap were Ringwood and Godfather. Very friendly. I can imagine this being a perfect pub on a cold winters day with the log fire lit. Will be back

A pleasant country pub situated a few minutes walk south of Lyndhurst, but worth taking the small detour to get there. Alternatively of course if youre out for a walk in the new forest its not really a detour at all as its just a minutes walk from one of the entrances. Theres a good sized beer garden out the back with plenty of benches, a fire to keep you warm in the evening and a small kids play area.
The pub itself is a pleasant and attractive place, with a low beamed ceiling and a part tiled and part carpeted floor. Theres a large plasma on the wall just a couple of feet from one of the tables which seems a little out of place, but fortunately this was off on our visit. Theres a large old fire place which must be very pleasant on a cold winters night and a selection of board games and books available.
The landlord and the rest of the staff were friendly and welcoming, and they even keep a selection of dog biscuits that they dole out to any hungry mutts who come in. All in all, a great pub. The food menu had a decent selection and there was a small specials board. The prices seemed a lot more reasonable that many pubs in these parts, and we both enjoyed our Thai fishcakes and Chicken Enchiladas.
Beers on tap were Ringwood Best and Forty-niner plus Doom Bar. The solitary cider was Aspalls Suffolk.
