The Chineham Arms is a truely great local village pub and the staff are the most friendliest I have experienced. The food is great and there is always a lovely atmosphere in the pub.
|
Have been to the Chineham Arms twice recently and both times the staff were friendly and the service was excellent. The second time we went on a Sunday and ate in the restaurant section which has views over the beer garden. The food, although a little pricey, was a very good standard and well worth paying the extra for restaurant quality food rather than your usual pub meal. Theres loads of seating inside and out, and it has a chilled-out, friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

I went to this pub last week and had a lovely time the food was excellent and the price was reasonable too. The staff were very friendly and the pub was clean. I don't mind at all paying a bit more for a lovely setting, nice roaring fires and lovely toilets! I would recommend going to this pub and see what you think. They also do a lunch time menu for 7 and lots of seasonal specials which are all home cooked. They cater for children until 8pm and don't show football all day! The sports element has gone and the tv's in are all in one place which makes the other end of the pub more dining. All they need now I'd to get rid if the carpet and I would go as far as naming this a gastro pub on the making! Well done Fullers.

Been in here quite a few times over the years although hadn't been recently till last Friday when I went to watch the football,..
I see the last comment was over a year ago and commented on the rudeness,... well what can I say, nothing has changed,.. just felt like I was putting all the staff out by being there,.....
the bar was also covered from one end to the other with dirty glasses,... and I had the privilege to pay 3.40 for my pint,....
Won't be going back in a hurry.....!

I live close to the Chineham Arms but I have only been there a handful of times. The beer's not bad and the food's pretty good (although expensive) but the service is poor. I don't know what it is that's upset the bar staff and frankly I don't care. After a rough day at work I want to go to a pub and be treated politely while I buy my beer. These people are just plain rude. They have no interest in customer service unless you're a regular. No wonder I don't go there often.

As a local ive got to say this pub is a nice local pub good food and drink and great staff and service. think the no smoking in pubs was a good thing, rather the smokers outside than in. as for the football its not shown all night every night and quiz night is only shown once a week. had a great time on the various times ive visited would definatley reccommend to friends.
|
This is our local and they serve reasonable beer London Pride and ESB with the occasional guest beer. This isn't somewhere to go for a quiet drink unfortunately as sky sports is on most nights and if there's any sort of mid week premiership match on, forget being to have a conversation with your friends as the three tv's are turned up loud and the deafening cheers when a goal is scored. However, if football is your thing then it is right up your street but its hardly your traditional rural pub if that's what you're looking for. There is a quiz on every sunday which gets very busy and again forget having a conversation over the in house distorted sound system. There is an ample heated seating area outside for the smokers however they do tend to gather around the door so sometimes you have to walk through a fog holding your breath to enter the bar, but it is quite nice to sit outside in the summer even though you are looking onto the car park. It's ok for the odd pint on an evening once a month when there's no football on or quiz but that's it. The food is also average don't bother.

i live quite near to this pub and i have heard it is a nice and friendly pub but it used to have a horrible barmaid which name i will not mention
|
agree with last comment the arms is a nice little boozer have notice though since i been a regular (last 12 years) trade not as good as when i first started drinking here and they have lost some great staff despite the "manager off loading" could some one tell me where they have gone and why they all felt the need to leave. only 1 member off staff from the good times left.

As a resisdent of chineham i don,t understand why there are so many negative comments about this pub,it seems to me that perhaps that there are alot of envious people out there. If you want a nice little boozer then this is the place to go to, as for previous staff i think that the management were right to off load them.

visted the chineham arms (as i do most venues posted on this site) on 29th August after reading the varied comments thought i should try it for myself unfortunatly not upto the standard one would expect food was tasteless and not a very good pint i visited this venue last january 06 where the beer was very good (whats changed) food had also taken a turn for the worse well i wouldnt waste my money a second time (jan 06 not included was well worth the money) the staff back then was more pleasant and most polite. NOTE TO MANAGER PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR CHANGES IN THE LAST YEAR. STAFF, SERVICE ETC

Visited here on Friday last week, the place was heaving, have to say that the service was fast and efficient. We had a meal in the restaurant(one of the best meals i have had for a very long time)I did notice that there were only 3 staff working that night but for the amount of customers they had to deal with they were fantastic! I will definately be back again.

Don't agree with comment posted on 7th Aug this person obviously hasnt visited either of these places recently as ive been a regular of the chineham arms for more years than i care to remember (more for conveniece now). It does have its good points, nice new shelter for the smokers and plenty of tv's to watch your favourite sport. As for staff they lost some great bar staff over the last year or so the staff now only have time to chat amongst themselves and dont like being interupted on occasions i have found them quite rude and offensive. On the rare occasion you may see the management not exactly what you expect shame that des left had great relationship with all or most of the customers that i could see. Place not very busy anymore The cromwell is more than worth the 20 mins walk for a night out, very welcoming a lot of hard work put in to turn it around money well spent.

I don,t agree with the comment posted on the 18th july, this is a quality pub well run with great staff, yeah the beer may be a bit expensive but if you want quality then you will expect to pay abit more.As for the cromwell if you are looking for lager louts and verbal abuse then the 20 minute walk is worth it.
|
....pub looks nice from the outside, but inside has no atmosphere, drinks are expensive, and I wished I was somewhere else,
I live right near this pub, but I always choose to walk 20mins to the Cromwell in Lychpit instead,
Someone needs to take over this pub, and completely change it,..... there are so many houses around it, it has the potential to be really busy and a top pub,....
Not impressed at the moment,

been a regular here for about ten years and the staff are always and polite. food has always beeen ok. yes it's expensive but it is part of a chain.
|
Had a meal last friday. poor food, service, and attitude. Sent ham egg and chips back, as the ham looked uncooked (like jelly). When paying for the meal there was confusion on food/table orders, they were all mixed up. I noticed other customers buying drinks at the bar instead of havingsome sort of waiter sevice. Didn't wait to see the dessert - we left !!
|
I was quite surprised to see the comments about the food, the last time I ate in here the food was great and last year the managers put on a really interesting beer and food event - the head brewer came along and was very entertaining. I would definately eat here again and the beers not bad either.
|
I agree with chrisateversley, dont bother. You may as well go to McDonalds for your Sunday lunch. Also has some very suspect regulars...........
|
We dined here on Friday 23rd Feb 07. There were 9 of us in all. The food was expensive, was served cold and tasted unpleasant. Serving staff made numerous mistakes with the order, and were incapable of serving the whole table with each course in an acceptable time frame. Most people had finished their main course by the time I got mine. Two of us had upset stomachs after eating here. With a couple of drinks thrown in and 3 courses it cost 27 a head. If I were you I would not eat here.
|
good food ( at least on the times we ate there ).
beer expensive
staff are a bit on the rude side unless you are wearing a football top ...
overall: what else can you do if you live in Chineham!
|
This has been my local for years now. Great pub, good food, good beer and very friendly staff! You get looked after here!
|
Very nice pub, if a little pricey for Pride! I fancy the Asst.Mgr called Heather, and would like her in my life xxxx
|
...been there a few times,..... kinda over priced if you ask me,..... not a very nice atmosphere when i've been in there,.... nothing about it really makes me want to go there again,...

Visited only at lunch, but seemed pleasant. Mainly workers from the local business parks. Good lunch food served quickly and a well-poured pint of London Pride. Outdoor tables a nice touch, even though the only view is of the car park.
|
I've only been in here a few times at lunchtime. The place seems to be run fairly well, with a reasonable level of service and generally a good standard of maintenance and decor. Clientele seem fairly sensible also. Probably not gonna set the world alight, but not a bad little boozer all in all.... 1st class pint of Pride also..
|
Update: Visited one evening last week. To the woman that served us we were obviously just an annoying interruption during her evening chat. When we did manage to prise her away from her equally busy mate she looked completely put out. If we expected a 'Please' or 'Thankyou', we didn't get one. I'll take my cash somewhere else in future.

Yes this pub serves london pride on tap and a great pint it is to.
Great pub with great staff.
|
I have heard that this pub serves 'London Pride' on tap. Does anyone know if this is true?
|
Most expensive pub in Basingstoke by far. Too modern, too yuppie and zero character.

An 'off the beaten track' Fullers pub serving the population of Chineham and nearby Business Park. Lunchtimes are not as busy as they used to be, as workers become more worried about their jobs. However, Fridays, birthdays and leaving dos will guarantee a great atmosphere. In the evenings the womenfolk are left at home and the bar fills with blokes in search of Sky Sports. The service is fast and polite, although prices have gone up sharply over the last year. Outside, there's loads of seating, with a new flashy covered area. Sunday night is quiz night for big money prizes.
