An 'Irish' chain pub which isn't actually very Irish at all.

The beer was good... but sorry to say the food was a disgrace... there were only two small pieces of tough gristle, a few mushroom segments and gravy in the Steak and Guiness pie, The peas were still frozen, and the Calcanon was like wallpaper paste... the steak (according to my Autistic son) was that tough it must have been on steroids before it died... but my Wife says hers was all fat with very little meat... and again it was tough... the worst part was my youngest sons Fish and Chips...the Chips were like solidified cardboard, and the fish had a strange smell on it... needless to say we did not bother eating it... and walked out.

Nothing extraordinary about this pub. I am drinking there a fair bit at the moment as it is the only pub in York serving Guiness Red.
Did Irish people really keep biscuit tins in cupboards and hang rusty old farm implements on the walls ? Odd.

really nice looking pub, always got the sports on as well

I think it's ok personally! Wouldn't go in of a friday or saturday because its far too busy, but most other nights you'll get a decent pint in ok surroundings

Sorry to be predicatable, but have to agree with comments below. Is a sub standard, fresh from the mold "Irish Pub" from the O'neills chain. They serve an ok pint of guinness most of the time, food that looks alright, and it can be comfortable when quiet. But when busy its impossible to find a seat, bar waiting is inevitable (staff seem uninterested in helping) and place can be hot + smokey. Only reason I find for going in these days is good rugby coverage on multiple TVs.

Never felt comfortable in here, the staff and especially the landlord don't make you feel welcome at all, the beer is just ok and god help you if you don't support Celtic when the footie is on.

Must agree with the last 2 punters, few self respecting Irishmen go into this Plastic Paddy ( I mean to insult the pub not the Irish ) GSE.

The extortionate prices and the rudeness of the staff certainly makes this pub a no-go. I would recommend going anywhere else but here! Try Old Orleans across the road - a much better service and atmosphere.

Identikit 'Oirish' chain pub - serves above average Guinness, but has absolutely no other redeeming features.
Right in the middle of town, so gets stupidly busy at weekends, usually with the overspill from Yates' round the corner.
