Friendly pub with an excellent choice of beers.

Good solid town pub with six ales on though the Bathams wasn't 100%.

Best pub in Lichfield for me. Always interesting range of guest beer, well kept. Friendly staff.

Good sizable pub, good staff & smoking area. The ale I had was BSG 'Blue Monkey', a tasty pint.

Once Lichfield's great 'Old San' pub the H&J has reopened after a sad decline and is now a free house selling a wide range of ales. Always busy, it's sometimes difficult to get a seat particularly at weekends. The staff are functional rather than friendly, probably because they are so busy. The ales are very well kept and Sky Sports is shown discreetly towards the rear of the bar. Well worth combining a visit with the Queens Head, just don't expect to get chatting to locals.

Friendly staff, good choice of real ale thats well kept and presented. Some proper customers to have banter with ( worldly wise types ). I am very impressed after two visits so far , one lunchtime the an evening. Next time I must try the food as that may be up to the same standard.

As a native of Lichfield I was so disappointed when we took mates to visit the Horse and Jockey. We've never been in before but have walked past, what is a great looking little place, a lot and it has got great reviews on here. The barmaid was down right rude and we felt a nuisance ordering drinks. They used plastic glasses too, my Guinness drinking mate was nearly in tears!! Giving the benefit of the doubt it could be because it was Bower day, very busy and she may have been a casual. Not a wide selection of drinks though.
With such a great choice of pubs to choose from I don't think we'll be back. Shame really. :(

Love it!!! Worlds friendliest staff and landlord, and top brew! 5ish handpulls last time I looked

Just up the road from the Queen's Head this refurbished Banks' pub should provide some real competition as it sells most of its beers at a considerably cheaper price and as a free house it supplies a range that is largely focussed on the products of local breweries. The staff are friendly, efficient and welcoming. The old two-room pub, (where the bar was like somewhere in the wild west), has been converted into a single drinking area with a central bar. The only minus point for me was the TV screens around the place, silently showing soap operas etc. As no-one was really watching them I felt they were an unecessary intrusion, but this is a minor carp about a serious contender in the real ale pub stakes.
