please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Had an 'Alchemy North' brew that was pleasant enough. Okay for what it is and handy for the station.

Seemed like the height of civilisation after Brackley and Banbury though.

Kind of concur with others - it's okay and better than other ale outlets in HW but ale was a bit hit & miss with some beers good and others a bit suspect.

Has a wide choice of beers but unfortunately the quality rarely matches the quantity. They should also learn that if a customer takes a beer back because it doesn't taste right it's not an invitation to an argument - "it's a new barrel....that's how it's supposed to taste...etc", it's an opportunity to provide some half decent customer service and offer an alternative. It’s handy for the station but is expensive and certainly not as good as it was a few years ago.

Excellent range of beer, all kept very well. Had a pint of Rebellion and a Tring ruby ale, so no faults on that front. Mixed clientele, no problem with that either.

However, and I stress I don't go here very often only when meeting a mate in Wycombe so it might have been a one off, for a Friday evening the service was poor. Only one person on, and he was pretty slow. It had gone downhill in that regard (may have been a one off) in the year or so since I last visited.

Hopefully it was a one off, because the lack of competition in Wycombe, were most of the pubs are pretty grim, could breed a danger of complacency.

Having moved into the area earlier this summer, but never visited this place as I generally have my small boy in tow, finally managed to get in here after a hellish week at work. Phew, what a way to recover!

A bit packed to start with (at about 18:45) service was still prompt and friendly. There seemed to be lots of regulars, which is always a good start.

This isn't the average pub, and bearing in mind the sheer variety of beers available it's not cheap. But in the early evening it was just as a pub should be, a mixed crowd of suits, non-suits, students, men & women, all enjoying some really good drinks & just chatting away with some fairly unobtrusive & rather good music in the background.

Don't want to be all gushy, but I may have found a new favourite town pub (the country one will never be usurped)!

In all my travels, I can't remember coming across a pub like this. Fridges in the main area and an impressive display of bottled beers. I hadnt noticed this when I first went in but did notice Lowenbrau on draft - so rarely stocked these days. They had however run out - so I checked the fridge and went for a Kwak. Glad I didnt have the big bottle - £10.50!

Very interesting boozer and rare to have something new.

Enjoyed a half of a Rebellion beer in a lively atmosphere and a surprisingly mixed crowd for mid-evening Friday. Its quite an attractive place, with high prices, and the beer range was large but very mainstream (most bottles found in Tescos). Only competition to the Belle Vue in Wycombe though.

Beware opening hours in Beer Guide are (as so often now) wrong.

More beer bar than pub but still the best place for ale in HW. Very handy for the station (if you leave by the main town exit). Had a goodpint of Rebellion Roasted Nuts. Has about five or six ales on and also large selection of bottled foreign beers.

Good real ale. Despite not serving food it is a bit poncy and popular with the rugger crowd. But still a great pub.
PerivaleElvis - 12 Jan 2013 01:01
An amazing selection of beers from all over the world as well as some local brews on tap. A really nice atmosphere, especially with the Olympics on in the background and a DJ playing at a level you could enjoy the music without having to shout at the person next to you. They don't sell food but if you have a take away from somewhere else, you can eat it in the pub and they will supplt the knife and fork. All in all, a great little pub and well worth a visit, especially as it is opposite High Wycome station.

Visited early on a Friday night to find bar very busy but nice secluded garden out back. Nice selection of draught real ales as well as the copious bottled beers. Tried a nice draught ale from XT brewery.
Beer_Spotter - 30 Apr 2012 14:33
an amazing selection of beers, and a modern interior. the building exterior is a lovely flint building, true to the traditional chilterns building style. with 300 odd beers available its a really fun place to induldge your inner beer geek. the no footlball colours rule annoyed me, but all in all that doesnt take away from it being a great place. not quite a comfy local pub, but a superb pub/bar to visit o a night out.
CHELSEA_on_tour - 1 Mar 2012 17:01
Good real ale pub. Enjoyed the Rebellion IPA (Rebellion, Marlow) and Drovers 80/- (Tryst, Larbert).

There's little in High Wycombe to rival this place.

Worth a visit good range of ales various handpumps 6 available when we were there. Huge range of bottled beer not my thing and appeared pricey but the handpumps were well priced at 3.
Appeared to be no food but a range of takeaway options they would organise for you.
pubman56 - 28 Oct 2011 11:38
Much improved, good range of ales.

It's a pity that they seem to have now closed the Tap Room where they used to serve ale straight from barrel.
Statto - 17 Jul 2011 20:13
Still a good place to visit with 7 beers on handpump - mainly from Rebellion today. 3 a pint is good value. Very quiet though for a friday evening.
cheshirecat - 15 Jul 2011 21:41
Pleasant surprise!
Good choice of 4 ales on pump and 3 on gravity, plus about 300+ cooled on bottle. Think I have to jump of the train in HW more often.
EnnioD - 25 Jun 2011 23:40
Vastly improved from the run down place it used to be; there are some pretty strict house rules, but accept that that's the landlord's privelege. The handpumped beer changes maybe too regularly, but it is good to see a decent and varied selection available. (They do offer tasters if you see something new or untried as well).
This one definitely flies in the face of my general rule for most towns: The nearest pub to a railway station will invariably be a dump. Happy to be wrong on this occasion.
Prices? The bottled stuff & lagers are a bit on the high side, but the hand-pumped beers are of comparable value to anywhere else in town.

Visited for the first time since the change of ownership last friday and overall disappointed. It was pretty busy, service was no better than ok. Inevitably I suppose with an offer of 200+ bottled beers and seven cask ales (only 6 were on though) the cask ale quality was disappointing. Why do people want to offer such a wide range when a narrower range would mean better throughput and better condition beer. With no clear reason to stay we moved on elsewhere. It is a shame. I dont get the bottled beer thing but it may help drive footfall. 4 cask pumps would be fine.
1morefortheroad - 20 Feb 2011 21:07
A nice comfy pub just outside the train station. 7 beers on handpump plus several hundred bottled beers. The cask ales seem to be reasonably priced although I'd say the bottles are expensive.

Quality fine and service pretty good even though it was getting busy in he early evening.

Well worth visiting.

Hi, just so you know the 2.50 charge for plates/knives/forks has been scrapped
markc72 - 20 Jan 2011 02:32
Now this is the sort of pub Wycombe has been waiting for. A nice, comfy pub with brilliant beers and a good atmosphere. The only thing that lets this place down is the downright rude and arrogant staff who leave you standing at the bar for an eternity while they stand there either chatting or washing glasses, or alternatively ignoring you completely and serving everyone but you!

It's a real shame when I first went in there the staff were 10/10. Ok, it's a little pricey but I dont mind that - just sort out the arrogant bar staff and it will be by far one of the best PH's in Wycombe!
mikeyr1234 - 18 Jan 2011 00:00
Great place! I've always seen it from the station, but only visited for the first time two weeks ago and am an idiot for missing out so long!

An amazing selection of bottled beers and ciders (about 270 and 30 I think), plus a good selection on draught, including Rebellion. It will take you an age to choose though! Please do visit and support this pub, it's great, and if it were in Richmond or Chiswick or somewhere equally trendy you wouldn't be able to get in the door.

It doesn't serve food, but does allow bring your own (2.50 charge per head for plates/cutlery).

Whoops - missed this entry. My comments are listed under The Flint Cottage.

I visited this pub a few times and was glad to see the same cheerful barman with a great knowledge of the beers in stock. But returned in the last 2 weeks to find he has left for a position elsewhere. the pub has lost a valuable member of staff who i believe was there from the start ...
What a shame
newtosurrey - 25 Sep 2010 16:24
Quite possibly the best pub in Wycombe. Great selection of beers and a friendly atmosphere
VPA_drinker - 6 Aug 2010 14:08
Right by the railway station, about 7 real ales from around the country but you'll always find a local brew, a nice selection of styles too. Bottled beer range is very good, have a look around the other side of the bar and there a couple of large glass fronted fridges with various beers from around the world on display. One thing to note is that they do not allow any football colours in the pub, including the England shirt.

Called in today and really glad i did. More ales than you could shake a stick at and loads of bottled beers. Heaven really. Beers well kept, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Clean and welcoming place. Good garden.
Used to be a complete shithole but utterley transformed! Well Done.
PLEASE SUPPORT.
stevienicks - 19 May 2010 14:46
really nice pub and very helpful staff. They really know their stock. I shall visit again and again
000mmmmmmBEER - 23 Mar 2010 17:40
Previously the Flint Cottage and now relaunched as a real-ale and bottled beer specialist. Several real ales and many bottled beers -- under the same ownership as the Sausage Tree in Wycombe and Bird Cage in Thame (as far as I'm aware -- these things change often).
