Our New Year's Day afternoon visit was marred by the rudest most unpleasant barmaid I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Having spent a not inconsiderable sum there over the years I was shocked by how rude she was. Staff like her bring the Lees brand into disrepute. I will not spend my hard earned in there ever again.
On a more objective note the Lees here is usually passable but you'd be better off in the Brook in Brooklands if Lees is your thing, or head to the Quarry Bank if you want a better Timperley experience.

An average pub, nice indoor space and good selection of drinks. Food is dreadful, poor quality ingredients thrown together. Landlord pretty rude and aloof and you get the feeling children aren't really welcome.
Best of a bad bunch of pubs in Timperley.

Very pleasant JW Lees pubs with a central bar with Lees seasonal beers plus regular offerings. The Chocaholic (2.31) was superb. It's bigger than it first looks as there is room to sit the other side of the central bar. Has quiz nights.

Went in last night (Saturday) for a few drinks. Nice atmopshere, bar staff friendly and they brought out free bacon butties at 10.45 so we were really pleased we stayed for that last drink!
Only minor gripe is we had three rounds of a pint of Golden lager and a small glass of red wine and it cost a different amount each time (probably due to the array of different wines).

The Trooper applied for a bigger and better situated beer garden a year or so ago but Trafford rejected the plans due to concerns from neighbouring properties about noise etc
|
It is a shame they didn't put the beer garden round the back and away from the main road, with all the land they have (currently used as car park) you would have thought that was possible.
|
Am trying to persuade Mrs B_D to go in again as she has gone right off the Gardeners and the Navi is a little far for a quick pint. We used to go in here regularly before the kids were born and even after we had our first.
Catered for my taste in real ales but never really felt comfortable in there with the kids and the beer garden always seemed rammed and a little dangerous, so close to the road, plus the hideous perspex smoking screens.
Will give it a try and re-rate

Went back for food - it was excellent, much improved.

Went in yesterday for a couple of drinks while the sun was shining. The draft cider was off but other than that the pub was looking nice and we had a nice hour sitting outside. The pub seems to have changed hands and is now a Lees pub so all the beers had changed (still quite a few real ales and different lagers). New menu since the change of chain so going to check out the food tonight.
|
Great selection of real ale although a little pricey, still not as welcoming to non-regulars as it might be but always seems to be doing a reasonable trade
|
Devoid of atmosphere since it was done up. This pub is certainly popular. Good for real-ales.

I cannot praise this pub enough. If you remember what it used to be like it's like comparing Heaven with say.....Hell! It suffers from the usual high prices and packed bar during the weekend but most pubs are like this. The food is very good, the beer outstanding and decor tasteful. The staff are very friendly and it's VERY good with kids whilst not suffering from the 'Hungry Horse' atmosphere. I've never seen any trouble and there's bags of parking etc etc.....

pros: good wine list, good amount of single malt scotches (don't know how well they mix their shorts etc.), six real ales (three regularly changing guests inc. some real finds, three regulars), decent enough food (average brasserie style on rectangular plates etc. and some specials including often a green curry), mixed crowd of all ages etc., good community local for people, decent programme of events, later hours at weekend, decent seating outside, friendly and buzzy when busy, attractive building. cons: bland modern interior, guest ale sometimes far from tip-top condition, service from some of the younger barstaff especially can be a bit hit and miss and my personal grumble is that the gaffer replaced Greene King IPA with Websters for one of his regular cask ales. verdict: good residential local, my pros far outweigh the cons and CAMRA like it as other commenters have noted.

I think it must be me, but I really struggle with this pub. Went in for a friends birthday bash recently. The pub was packed, but devoid of atmosphere. I waited in excess of 10-minutes to get served - on two occasions. They must be having problems with the thermostat as it was very hot (or is that an attempt to get us to drink more!) The beer quality was ok, but they ran out of IPA whilst we were there. To be fair the beer is reasonably priced and there was no jukebox stifling the conversation.

A really good pub with a good friendly environment and a good selection of real ales. Well worth a visit
|
If you like pubs for kids and families this is ok...but no atmosphere at all. If you want to stand round and show off your latest designer gear this is the place for you. Beers can be ok, but more like a bar than a pub. I can't stand those sofa type seats that you can't get out of, I must be getting old
|
This is actually a pretty good pub even if the decor looks a bit like a hotel lobby. A decent atmosphere on many nights and friendly staff. The best thing is the beer. The real ales keep changing and have won the pub local CAMRA awards. Nice one!

I first came to the Moss when i decided the Hare was getting a bit 'out of order'
Its a really nice Pub/Wine Bar - Nice barmaids, good mix of people, Music needs to be a touch louder.
I would say this is the best watering hole in Timperley.
Well worth a few pints in there!

This pub is now more of a restaurant than a public house. If you prefer style over substance this is this place to eat. Average food served on large white plates with obligatory side salad. No jukebox, pool table or dartboard, if this is the future of the pub, then I will stay away. Awful simply awful!

The pub quiz on Tuesday is good fun, I went last Tuesday and the place was packed out, families, social drinkers, quiz players, it was great. When I was there last time though (see post below) it housed a different crowd maybe because it was at the weekend. May go back there again now (during the week).

It's a shame if it's going downhill as this was the last chance saloon and it'll be knocked down and the land sold on if it fails. Hasn't been too bad when I've been and I feel confident enough to take my 8 month year old son in the beer garden, unlike many places round here. Beer has remained varied and excellent and I believe the landlord just got a CAMRA award

Was fantastic when it first re-opened, lovely place to go to in terms of the seating etc. Was full of what I can imagine as pleasant locals checking the place out and some pub tourists (like us). It was at last an upmarket pub.
However I went in recently and I found it to be full of adult scallies, perms and big gold earrings for the women, tattoos and an earring for the men. Not very nice. It looked scruffier - they didn't clean the tables like when they first re-opened, the people were aggressive locals or "arrogant regulars". I'm thinking it's stuck with this crowd now so I won't be going back there. A real shame considering from the road it really does look upmarket. These people you would typically find in The Unicorn or The Downs (before it closed).

An excellent pub with a friendly atmosphere. Beer is quite good. Good mix of people (unlike too many pubs in Altrincham!)

Nice pub, good food and guest beers that change every few days and decent kronenbourg too.
Has it's fair share of scallies and arrogant regulars but it's best to just ignore them.
Oh and don't smoke at the bar

Since being upgraded building wise this pub is now a firm favorite of many locals, it has a good selction of guest beers and a very good food menu. The manager and staff know their beers and are exceptionally good with the customers

Excellent staff, reasonable food and a brilliant selection of guest real ales, sadly lacking in some of the other local pubs now.
Great to sit outside in the summer and pretty children friendly plus a large no smoking area. May make more trips here than the Gardeners Arms in future
|
Nice pub, guest beers on tap too!

Recently undergone a refurb. Looks excellent and the beer isn't too bad either. A big change from how it used to be but they have removed the dart board and pool table.
