I saved the Dove Inn until last on my visit to Barnsley, having been unsure about their opening times. I'd been earlier in the afternoon and found it closed. For reference, the landlord informed me that they'd been opening at 4pm for as long as he'd been there. This is an Old Mill pub and their Traditional Bitter is the real ale. It was a decent ale. Nice and cosy interior. But, there were no other customers.

My friend Miles and I are the only Derby fans in here. Remains pretty friendly and the beer is decent. 3 beers on and have tried 2 which are properly decent. Considering it's match night we're pretty comfortable and would recommend to other footie fans. Not a top, top joint but friendly and safe, with decent beer

Visited this pub yesterday for the Hammers game... and we to won 4-0 maybe this is a lucky boozer.

Now owned by The Old Mill Brewery from Snaith this pub was a lovely place to meet before the game. The Landlord and staff were friendly, they organised a football card and the ales were well kept. There was Blonde Bombshell and the usual Mill beers, all were in good order. There was a nice mix of home and away fans with no bother. There is also a superb beer garden and a terrace where you can see the ground... Better to meet there than at some tacky chain pub near the station... this pub is literally 5 mins walk away from the ground..... defo recommended for visiting fans who like a decent pint and no idiots...

Bustling with football supporters on Saturday, and a good atmosphere, but I have drunk Old Mill ales in much better condition. In fairness, it must be said that the amount being drunk meant that both barrels had to be changed more than once, although this could not have caught them by surprise, the new ale should have been ready to serve. Pie and peas advertised for 2.

As stated, very handy for the football ground. Very friendly locals, decent Old Mill beer. Clean and tidy pub, although the gents needed some attention with no door lack and the seat leaning up against the wall instead of on the bowl! Replays of old Barnsley games being looped on various TVs around the room and over a somewhat loud PA. Doorman doubling up as a programme seller. A pleasant way to spend an hour before the game, made even better by the 4-0 drubbing we handed them as well!

Fairly recently refurbished roadside local close to Barnsley FC (part of Oakwell can be viewed from the outside decking area and seemingly given a new lease of life according to the locals at the bar. The Dove has a couple of Old Mill brewery beers on the go (Bitter and Bullion) which both tasted excellent though a bit cold for my liking, served by a friendly down-to-earth landlady. There's a nice downstairs garden area and the inside of the pub is quite plushly furnished (for Barnsley!) though there's a slight whiff of old smoke pre-ban. Beware the big dog roaming downstairs - he's perfectly friendly but looked quite a handful! Dartboard available and a TV.

Best pub I visited on my day in Barnsley and a no-brainer if you're there for the footy.
