Good pub, friendly staff & customers, good beer and the food is fine. Why is it listed under Stafford instead of Great Haywood?

Visited this pub twice during our recent canal holiday and had no problems with either the beer or the food. 6 beers on offer and the ones we had (Adnams Broadside and Bass) were fine. Perfectly adequate without being exceptional.

If you want good service avoid this pub - the staff are rude and incompetent. We went in at 5pm and asked to book a table in the restaurant for 7pm and were told there was no need to book. When we arrived at 6.45pm we were told that there were no tables available as they were all booked!! When we explained what had happened earlier the staff were extremely rude and offhand and said that it wasn't their problem.

We walked 200 yards up the road to the Fox and Hounds and had an excellent meal. OK, it was more of a pub grub meal but it was well cooked and fresh!!

Vinegar fly infested cellar! - Less than 50% chance of getting a drinkable pint!

Sells a range of 6 real ales. The problem is that usually three are off - i.e. turning to vinegar. The problem is that the Landlord, Rob, only drinks lager!

This is a large traditional pub and quite friendly. It's very easy to access from the canal if you moor up having turned right out of the Staffs & Worcs junction (coming from Stafford direction) However I tend to turn left and walk into town from the opposite direction, as it is possible to wind by the entrance of the marina a little further up.

Unfortunately on both occasions that I have visited it was out of food serving hours so I was unable to sample the cuisine.

Drinks are reasonable with a decent selection of lagers, real ales, ciders, wines and spirits etc.

This is one of two pubs in the village, the other being The Fox which is just up the road past the Spar store. The Fox is more of a local pub, but is extremely friendly and serves very nice cheap food.

If you're stopping off in Great Haywood overnight, visits to both pubs are a must!
