Ship Inn, Newcastleback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Ship was my second pub in Byker last Thursday evening, following the Tanners Arms (not listed on here). The Ship is sat opposite the Cluny. But it is a much more compact place. 5 ales were on. They were Consett White Hot, Allendale Wolf, Adnams Broadside & Ghost Ship & Cullercoats Forth. They also had 2 ciders from Orchard Pig - Philosopher & Explorer. I fancied some food in here. But they've switched everything to vegan. So I opted against it. One local thought it was hilarious telling visitors that the place was haunted, whilst pushing one of the low-hanging light bulbs. He proceeded to do this both on the way to the toilet and on his return. Each to their own! There's better pubs nearby. But certainly add this as part of a crawl.

Revisited this pub recently. Good beer selection from local breweries. Beer well kept. Friendly staff.

Was in on a Monday evening prior to a gig at the Cluny, so expected it to be busier. It wasn't. Served an ok pint of Moorhouse's Pendle Witch by a disinterested barmaid who seemed more interested in doling out samples of cider to the 'regulars'. Zero atmosphere and crap music so I supped up and went to the Cluny which was packed. Will know better next time

What a waste. Could be a great place, but poor beer, extensive yet very boring whisky shelf, disinteresred staff and zero atmosphere make this somewhere to avoid. So many great pubs in the ouseburn, this unfortunately, is not one. Crap beers being passed off as "classics" is fooling no-one.

This used to be one of the best pubs in the area until someone decided to rip out all the original fittings and 'modernise' it. Just look at the review on the burglars dog website. That says it all.

14.05 Saturday afternoon, sunny hot day. 2 hand pumps, I enquired which had sold most this lunchtime - none was the reply. Are you going to pull any off ? no said the disinterested bar maid, does that mean its been standing in the lines since last night ? yes she said. Needless to say there wasnt a single customer in the pub. Exit stage left to the Cluny opposite, packed with customers and lots of good real ale, friendly knowledgeable staff and a great atmosphere.
