Muckles, Harrogateback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Great pub for live football on TV . Good beer at good prices and efficient bar staff. Surprisingly good pub food too. Not recommended if you want a quiet drink on a night when a big match is on TV. I'd put The Muckles in my top ten list of pubs in Harrogate.

On my recent visit the meals were mediocre saying there was not a lot of meat , The Landlord walked about like the head chicken on a chicken farm and we found him quite ignorant ,Although the staff was pleasant , The beer was reasonably priced though and great for smokers as they have turned the back into a smokers yard , Although on the edge of town its alright if you want a pint but there is better choices when it comes to food as you will find yourselves basically sat in the middle of the small pub rubbing shoulders with just drinkers and smokers . The food let us down

Had the worst pint I've ever had at this pub. Black Sheep, which was unrecognisable. If you like your beer, go to the Coach and Horses or the Tap and Spile, both of which are very close by.

I can only agree with redmax.

The previous (wholly impartial, I'm sure) reviewer comments that "Muckles will exceed your expectaions". I'm sure this is true, as most Harrogate dwellers would have zero-level expectations of the place. If you want to drink Fosters, watch Sky Sports and have blaring music pumped out at you then this is probably the place for you. But then three-quarters of town pubs give you much the same experience.

Bearing in mind this pub was hrs from closing only 15 months ago the pub is now a thriving, warm & friendly place. Yes sport on TV does feature but there is so much more to this place than that. The food menu is extensive & exceptional value not to mention extremely good quality. The beer quality is without question amongst the best in Harrogate. Re Mummers / Gatelad review - get a life! The pub supports local charities consistantly throughout the yr. Frankly you weirdo's can go else where!
To normal people - all I can say is that Muckles will exceed your expectaions.......

This was once Tetley's flagship pub in Harrogate, one of the few entries in the Good Beer Guide in the '70s. Since then, the brewery and now pubcos, continually demonstrate that they are clueless about what makes a good pub. "Oldboots" has described the interior - I will just describe an encounter last night. I was following the local Folk Mummers on their tour of West Park pubs, where they perform a 4 minute traditional English Mummers play, then collect for Local charities. One of two bar staff, in his black uniform, said they shouldn't be doing it as they had not got permission. Actually they had, but the absentee landlord/manager perhaps hadn't told him. The scene was observed (or not) by a few clumps of blokes with their eyes glued to the football on the large plasma screen, whilst unrelated "music" pumped away in the background. A very sad place indeed.
The Mummers didn't stop for a pint and neither did I.

Not as bad as it looks as it's a former Scruffy Murphy's. Dark wood furniture and bar counter, bare boards in the middle and carpeted round the outside of the room. Big clear windows looking out onto the Stray and restrained dcor in a single open plan room. Good balance of seating and standing room, with a pool table at the back. Usual range of keg stuff, John Smiths Smooth, Tetley Smooth, Carlsberg, Stella, Guinness and Strongbow (yawn), four hand pumps dispensing Pedigree, Tetleys Cask and Black Sheep Bitter, my BSB was pretty nasty cold, thick and green. For those interested in pub architecture there are still some fine architraves and two very nice stained glass windows behind the pool table.
