Good for just a drink or food from their posh menu (book). Only gripe was a lack of a dark beer with 3 out of the 4 real ales very similar in style. Probably the best pub in the village.

Now has a new set of handpumps so 4 beers on at weekends and busy times. Still concentrating on local microsRooms have been revamped for Coast to Coast walkers for B&B

Top notch pub in a lovely village, and well worth visiting if you're in the area. They obviously focus on the food, which is excellent and fairly priced (as others have said, always pretty busy so worth booking a table). But they also have a good selection of local ales and if you just want a drink then you're still made welcome. Also worth noting that the service was faultless and all the staff we had interactions with were both friendly and genuine.

Superb pub in all respects. Specialises in local ales and the food is fantastic. Because of that it looks a bit foodie and one would be in the minority if only going for a beer but are still made welcome round the bar area.

Although this pub does concentrate on food (which is excellent with a changing specials board) it is worth visiting for the beers. There are 3 handpumps which have a range of beers mainly from Yorkshire breweries. Today there was Walls Brewers Gold, York Decade and a 5% IPA from Roosters. The lanlord is knowledgable about his beer and had a number from Walls Hop Studio and Salamander to put on over Easter. Walkers are welcome and recently there has been a small extension built on the back which means there is always room for drinkers.

From the outside it is quite a plain pub and nothing remarkable at all. However, once inside you are greeted by a good selection of real ales plus a fantastic wine list and great food. The decor is simple but with bags of atmosphere. Always busy and need to book if one requires a table for dinner. Upmarket clientele; Oldboots' review is pretty accurate.

Pretty much a restaurant that sells beer, although listed in the Good Beer Guide it would not be so vulgar as to display the GBG sticker in the window. Three handpumps serving York Guzzler, Timothy Taylor's Best Bitter and Jennings Bitter all in reasonable condition, a small range of undistinguished kegs and of course lots of wine. There are a few bar stools for casual drinkers but the single room is largely furnished with chairs and tables set for dining, some tables have comfortable bench seating, all have candles. The room is decorated in brown and white, brown furniture and wood panelling with rough plastered white walls. Lots of mirrors giving an impression of space. The staff and the food are excellent, the food is not cheap pub fare but is good value for money. Customers are a generally well heeled lot as you may expect but at times includes a number of villagers. Overall a comfortable and civilised place with a friendly atmosphere but not a village pub.
