Friendly welcome - literally as we walked in the door. Good ale, reasonably priced. Warm open fire, very pleasant on a cold winter's night.

Five Bells is OK. I enjoyed a lunch time pint of Sam Brooks Junction with my colleagues from the newly refurbished PRS offices just down the road. The current food arrangement is with the deli next door so either order it via the bar or go get it yourself, and eat it in the pub.

This pub is located on a very busy road (Streatham High Road). The interior is fairly long, narrow and dark. It has a kind of Irish feel. 2 Greene King beers were available on handpull - Old Specked Hen & IPA. A third - Ruddles County appeared to be dispensed by gravity. The Old Speckled Hen was not in the best of conditions. It was one of those pubs where there were more people sat outside the front on the pavement than were inside. Not one to recommend.

Oi Quackers i`ve never been in the place lol

good pub,good ale......nuff said.

GK leased pub, but the licensee and his wife are very friendly and know thier business very well.
This is probably the best pub in Streatham if you want a nice local pub. Gets busy at weekends for live music and has darts competition every thursday.
Only 2 real ales on and were standard gk fare, but very well kept.

as good as it gets in st.reatham

Working in Lahhdahhn for the week so made this a place to stop off for a pint.Friendly locals in Lee the coachie and Dave.Good staff who made you feel at home.IPA,Ruddles and a local ale.All kept in good condition.I will pop in again to this pub when in Streatham again.Very good place.

I like this place. Can always get a seat and usually has two or three nice ales going.
|
Nice pub...welcoming and cosy...but watch out for the one with the glasses who frequently falls off a stool at the end of the bar pretty early on..normally hangs out with two young mouthy chicks and a Dane LOL.
I'm kidding..ish ;-)
They have have top acts on such as Laura harding so the live music nights are something to write home about.
|
Not bad at all - friendly and welcoming pub - I presume a GK house going by the IPA and Abbot available on handpump, but there was a guest ale served from a cask behind the bar. The GK was pretty drinkable. The pub is big, and goes back a fair way from the road. Service was friendly. Will pop in here next time I'm in Streatham.

In there a week ago, good food, friendly bar staff (cool boss and take no shit bar lady) and wasted merry locals - a slice of life. They have guest ales which are behind the bar but conditioned - tell you what is in and what is coming. Recommended. Live music Saturday nights. Much better than the Horse and Groom, slightly better than Taylors, up there with the Leigham and the Bedford Park but probably not quite as good as the Leigham. It might ruin it, but I can't help hankering for live football to be shown in there.

i really like this pub, full of the great mixture of life, you can walk in here at any time of the day and there will be somebody to chat to,the pub has has a certain relaxed feel, with deep sofas, and an amazing glass roof at the back,i feel they lost there way a while back with the food offer but this now seems to have been rectified,it appears a new chefs in town, with a traditional but vibrant menu,my wife and some girlie friends went in on tuesday and had toulouse sausages with a fresh pesto mash and a broth of onion gravy,a pub classic but with a twist, all in all,if you add the atmosphere, the wine and ale, with the food, you have got one of the best pubs in town,as i said when i started i really like this pub|

In an area almost devoid of good boozers, this is, along with the Leigham Arms, as good as it gets. Decent.
|
Still the best traditional pub in Streatham a good cross of older and younger customers staff do really make this pub and the Sunday Lunch is excellant value for money cheaper than eating at home very comfortable seating area by the windows love the glass roof eating area very cool Keep up the good work guys

Fast visit so won't say this is a comprehensive review...
Modern feel bar, no ale on tap. Ok atmosphere
And... bar games. Little digital devices that play 'hangman' and a quiz on screen. Nifty!

A paint-by-numbers chain pub. Streatham needs decent pubs, not these anonymous chains.
|
Possibly my favourite pub in Streatham. Music was always rather good, but often the same songs. Loved the beer and they did pork scratchings too. Had some hilarious drinking sessions in here such as sitting very dangerously by the dartboard as a group of people bounced darts off the wall. Also playing on the quiz machine and trying not to laugh when drunken blokes and women skidded down the last few stairs from the loos. From what I can remember, I enjoyed the Abbott Ale served here a lot and the IPA and the Staropramen.

Another unremarkable chain boozer. Pity, because it's a huge, imposing tavern in a really good spot on the High Road and really deserves to be run by a person or company with a bit of soul and passion. Beer is pretty good and well-kept. Food is very, very poor.

Nice and peaceful mainly, compared to the nearby Horse & Groom. Now has a dart board and an enjoyable Darts Night every Tuesday

Seems to have settled down under a new manager. There are perhaps fewer real ales than a few years ago, but at least they are selling and in decent condition.
|
Good Ales. Think that there were 4 full time and one or two guest ales. The Air conditioning makes it perfect for a too hot day.

Re: my last posting, manager has now left.
|
This pub is no longer the Hogshead, and has been run by Green King I think since late summer 2004 - I believe the manager mentioned below is still in residence. Its now called the Five Bells, apparently this was its name 100 years ago or whenever (so said the barman with the beard minus the tache). Its still the same as it was though, a few new tables, chairs, and classic pub carpet awaiting some spilt fags and beer. Guest ales aswell as Green King tend to be Youngs ordinary and HSB, if your very lucky there might be a barrel on a tilt behing the bar but these tendto be very hit and miss. And the quiz is still on Wednesdays with the fat bloke (hooray/boo - delete as required).

Probabaly the most welcoming of pubs in streatham, the Hogs Head prides itself on a comfy surrounding and providing good service. It is a great Winter pub with a large natural fire and good selection of ale. Hogsheads are either very new and trendy or old and countryfied - this is definately the latter nad manages to pull it off well.
The only thing that brings this pub down is the landlord. The staff are all very friendly and offer fast, efficient service, but if you have any problems then do not expect any understanding from the management. I have on more than one occasion seen an attitude of contempt for customers issues whether that be warm food or over charging.
all in all 6.5/10

Reasonably nice for St.Reatham except for the slavonic barman who charges extra to fill a vodka lemonade to the top.Quiz night is good

A very good pub, certainly the best in central Streatham, with a friendly staff and a landlord who generally knows how to keep real ale ('tho some of the barrels behind bar have been a bit erratic). Popular Wednesday night quiz can make it very busy - arrive by 8.45 to guarantee a table. The quizmaster is an acquired taste and difficult to ignore so try another night if you want a quiet chat. Final minor gripe, some of the furniture is falling apart after five years - can we have it restuffed please.

This is my favourite pub in the whole of London! It has *fantastic* quality beer - usually with one or two guest ales. (If you go when Crop Circle is on tap, you're in for a real treat!)
It's clean and smart inside, and definately a pub you can relax in (you wouldn't look out of place dressed casually or smart), and attracts a wide range of drinkers - young and old.
I really can't recommend it enough - the only other pub that comes close to it is the Half Moon in Windlesham, Surrey - about 25 miles away!
