Sat outside in the rear patio area early last night with a pint of Ringwood Razorback which went down pretty easily. The patio is a little strange in that it is basically part of a shopping courtyard but it offers a fascinating architectural view of the rear of what is apparently the oldest pub in Lymington with its numerous extensions and additions. Another pub in Lymington that warrants a revisit some day.

Now called The Angel & Blue PIg Inn, several Beers available but I went for the good old Ringwood Best Bitter. Acceptable but went Flat very quickly and lacked any for of "Lacing" Not the best pint of Ringwood Best I have had , but certainly NOT the worst. Did not eat on this occasion but what I saw being served up looked appetizing. Nice Decor and a Patio Garden with many tables of assorted sizes.

A decent pub with good beer and very comfortable with friendly staff. But why are they refurbing it again when it was only done 18 months or so ago? For me the interior is fine as it is and admittedly the landlady had informed us that the refurb will be sensitive to the current decor. (March 2013)

Will look in to see the results when back in Lymington.

Now refurbished sympathetically to a good standard and although more of a restaurant serving good food at reasonable prices (6 for a lunchtime special) there is a bar area at the rear. Service was quick and pleasant, our meals were enjoyable. I had a Hobgoblin which was very well kept. I'll be back!

Clean, pleasant, descent food good beer, just seems to lack atmosphere

This pub has a slightly spooky atmosphere, which may or may not be due to its resident ghost. We liked it, although I think it's possibly most suited for a grey and rainy day.

Situated in the middle of the main high street, it has wide windows which overlook the pavement, and we sat for hours in the afternoon, drinking Ringwood Best and people-watching.

Ringwood "Best", "49er" & Marston's "Pedigree Chum". A "Spoons" in all but name. I endorse "Jonnysaints"s comment about staff singing its praises.

As it is so much like a "Spoons", the 2/10 reflects this.

And now it seems they've got members of staff to post comments...

Nice lunch and a great cup of tea... staff were friendly. Agree the loos were a little stinky but the rest of the pub was clean, if not in need of a bit of work. Good pint of ale too. Rooms were fine for a few nights stay - clean and again staff were great. Would go again.

Alright if you want a quick pint. Thats about it.

run-of-the-mill slug and lettuce-style with a generous nautical rope/porthole helping

visited early summer before the mad rush and enjoyed nice enough beers and reasonable food in very chilled surroundings overlooking the harbour

would reccomend this place slightly off-season when it's quieter maybe...

Popped in one afternoon last summer and enjoyed a lazy time lounging in the big armchairs with my missus and the dog. It was very quiet, so difficult to comment objectively. I did visit several years previously and it did seem to have lost some of its appeal. It was pleasant enough and if we are passing again, we will pop in for a comfy chair and a pint.

The Angel Inn, Lymington. Ah yes. Back in the day (around ten years ago) it was quite a nice town pub. These days its just your standard Brewer Fayre type place. No individuality about it. Fridays and Saturday nights and it becomes one of those noisy joints where all the tacky stop outs hang about. Shouting, smashing glasses. A kids pub basically. Quality of booze - I only drink ale and these aren't kept very well. The last time I was in there and ordered a pint of Ringwood ale, I got a glass of vinegar in return.
Its predominantly a lager swilling place to accomodate the morons. If you must go, check it in the morning for a tea or coffee and a read of the newspaper. Stay clear of it during the evenings however. Its an uncomfortable place, blokes joustling in a 'personality type contest' - my trainers are better than yours etc etc. Had a Christmas dinner in there (not my choice but a work thing). The vegetables actually arrived after the Christmas pudding. No lie. There they were. I was amazed. No sod seemed to care.

im with plumbpudding.dont give up on a place instantly.we stayed here awhile ago and it was a disaster.the staff were unfriendly, they just didnt want to be there.the milk in the morning was off and we all had to wait for someone to go out and get milk.the bar is tacky and filthy.the food in the eve was a shocker,we didnt eat it,just clocked it as it was served to others.we went to a hotel across the road for supper{the stanwell, fine dining lovely}.dont give up,went met some family there who like the place?????? and was talked into staying for dinner, wat a change, they have taken a chef on by the looks of things.really good food beautfully presented.we were asked how we would like our tuna cooked, thats how things should be,we asked for medium but sadly that still came up well done and dry.the resturant is worth another visit john, but sadly the pub remains unfriendly and filthy, add to this a bar full of drunks after an england game and you get the pic.so,food grt,pub rubbish.

Fairly sketchy pub, golden fizzy water is certainly a fair evaluation. nothing great to say about the bar, but the seats are comfortable, and watching the chaos of market day does mke you feel relaxed!

Well John, I am not one to give up on a boozer without a fight, I tried again. Went there for lunch with me Ma. Coffee was OK. Cannot say more. At least I tried. If I can be lured out of the Haven I promise to try again
plumbpudding - 28 Jan 2006 17:02
Visited The Angel recently and the both ales that I tried were fine (Wadworths 6X and Ringwood 49er). Staff were helpful and friendly. Perhaps plumbpudding caught them on a bad day. Think it opens at 1030 as well which is always a bonus.
johnkn7 - 16 Nov 2005 12:16
They really are two different places - The pig is a local spit and sawdust hostelry. The Angel is a retail pub which sells cold golden fizzy water that passes as Larger and brown warm chewy stuff that is supposed to be beer - never again
