Fountain, Walsallback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Excellent choice of beers and ciders at this traditional boozer on the outskirts of Walsall. Bit of a walk to the centre of town from here but worth a visit. On the Friday evening we visited half of the pub was a disco - we stuck to the quiet side, but definitely an interesting place.

The Fountain is situated just outside the town centre and in common with many pubs in this area, it doesn't look much from the outside. But it is the ale range that sets it apart. All but one of the ales were from Backyard - The Hoard, Blonde, Bostin, Gold, East India Pale Ale, Summer & Chinook IPA. The one guest was the sublime Derventio Lucretius, a very sweet cherry stout. I also sampled Backyard's own cider. The interior is two rooms either side of a central bar. There were about 5 customers in when I arrived. But soon after I arrived, only 2 were left. So it felt very quiet. Nevertheless, the ale range made this the best of 10 pubs I visited yesterday. Shuts during the afternoon in the week.

Decent 'bar & lounge' type old style pub serving numerous ales including Backyard brews. Worth the shortish stroll out of the town centre.

One of the ways I test a pub is by talking to whoever might be leaning against the bar. If they're blocking service and generally miserable it takes a lot for me to look favourably from then on. If, however, they say hello then you, them and the landlord have a rambling conversation touching on German markets, London house prices and all points in between I know it's the sort of pub I'll leave with the greatest reluctance.
Of the seven on handpull I tried their own Backyard Blonde. It was, of course, superb.

This pub has great beers from the increasingly popular Backyard Brewery, plus some well chosen guest ales, Proper Job, when I last visited. Very friendly staff, quality banter, and great pork pies. Well worth seeking out this gem.

The traditional exterior of the pub is in sharp contrast to the inside - which, err, is not. It might not be to your taste if you are averse to more than a little camouflage green. Must admit, it was a little disappointing at first, but I was truly won over by the fantastically well kept ale and the good atmosphere. There's obviously a lot of work gone in to the place after the fire damage - so full marks for re-opening.

Reopened after an 18 month closure, now owned by The Backyard Brewhouse, and serving their great ales. Great staff too.

Good pub. Ale choice was okay and the one I had tasted good. I have to admit that I was a tad squiffy when I popped in on my way back to the station but the food looked very very good, as did a couple of the lady staff (apologies!). The food portions also looked very generous.
I'd consider returning just to try the menu.

A really nice little Victorian pub, though the interior is modern, but at least adorned with photographs of old Walsall (bit like a busman's holiday for me!), which I have meant to ask to be put on BITE for ages.
I never drink anything other than the Chestnut MILD, as it is a great, and not too common pint, though there are a few guest beers on.
Can get lively, with music and God forbid, younger people, on Friday nights, but always on the Walsall tour for me

This is an extremely good pub. The staff are friendly, beer is excellent, building traditionally Victorian - cannot really add anything to the other reviews. A spot on pub!

As per the previous post, a traditional back street local and very appealing. It is slightly outside of the inner town run but is well worth seeking out. There were 4 real ales on and my Deuchars was spot on, as was the Sunday roast dinner. There's a dart board in the bar and a signed WBA shirt! I will pay another visit next time I am in Walsall.

Traditional back street Victorian local pub. The pub was in the next street from The Arbor Lights, our last pub. It still has the two bars inside and we chose the left hand side. Three hand pumps with Deuchars, Adnams Bitter and Ruddles County. The Deuchars was on fine form and most of our group had this as the other beers are local to us. There was a mild but it was a keg beer so dismissed it. Our visit was on 14 February when we visited for the football. I was however unable to review until today now that the pub is listed on BITE. The barmaid serving was friendly and welcoming. Just as we were about to move to our next pub we noticed the rolls in a basket on the bar. There were many flavours all for just a pound. Very handy as we had an early start to the day so bought a few now and a few for later.
