Excellent choice of beers and ciders at this traditional boozer on the outskirts of Walsall. Bit of a walk to the centre of town from here but worth a visit. On the Friday evening we visited half of the pub was a disco - we stuck to the quiet side, but definitely an interesting place. dyyony - 2 Oct 2018 14:34 |
The Fountain is situated just outside the town centre and in common with many pubs in this area, it doesn't look much from the outside. But it is the ale range that sets it apart. All but one of the ales were from Backyard - The Hoard, Blonde, Bostin, Gold, East India Pale Ale, Summer & Chinook IPA. The one guest was the sublime Derventio Lucretius, a very sweet cherry stout. I also sampled Backyard's own cider. The interior is two rooms either side of a central bar. There were about 5 customers in when I arrived. But soon after I arrived, only 2 were left. So it felt very quiet. Nevertheless, the ale range made this the best of 10 pubs I visited yesterday. Shuts during the afternoon in the week. blue_scrumpy - 13 Jul 2016 20:36 |
Decent 'bar & lounge' type old style pub serving numerous ales including Backyard brews. Worth the shortish stroll out of the town centre. anonymous - 31 Mar 2016 22:54 |
One of the ways I test a pub is by talking to whoever might be leaning against the bar. If they're blocking service and generally miserable it takes a lot for me to look favourably from then on. If, however, they say hello then you, them and the landlord have a rambling conversation touching on German markets, London house prices and all points in between I know it's the sort of pub I'll leave with the greatest reluctance. Of the seven on handpull I tried their own Backyard Blonde. It was, of course, superb. djw - 13 Dec 2014 15:47 |
This pub has great beers from the increasingly popular Backyard Brewery, plus some well chosen guest ales, Proper Job, when I last visited. Very friendly staff, quality banter, and great pork pies. Well worth seeking out this gem. quaffed - 3 Aug 2013 14:23 |
