Jerusalem Bar, Fitzroviaback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I used to really enjoy this place. Unfortunately it has gone downhill. I was shortchanged at the bar and rudely treated when I asked for the correct change!! Staff training is the phrase that springs to mind ...

I have just spent a disappointing evening at Jerusalem. The start, middle and end were ruined by the abrasive door staff. Once past his rude greeting, you're in and enjoying a drink, only for him to disturb you by physically wedging you between two chunky tables without warning! The evening wouldn't be complete without some verbal, sexist abuse as you leave - a tripple whammy of offensiveness. The toilets smelled really bad too. I would not recommend this bar.

Ok, if you want a decent pub this isn't it. Print a voucher for a cheap bottle of wine. Clearly shit but attracts the clientele it deserves.

This place just doesn't work for me; I guess the temptation to go in is based on firstly, the late licence and secondly, you pretty much always get a seat. However, it's far too dark, too loud, and the tables are those really long ones (so you and your friends are all spaced out). Add all this up, throw in the candlelight, and personally I just fall asleep in the place (i.e. it kills the night out). Also too expensive.

Great place if you like really over-priced drinks, a bouncer ordering you to have your money ready and someone, who I presume was the manager, telling you off for being in the 'secret garden' when you've wandered through an open door to get there. Avoid.

Dont really understand the negativity around this place. Sure, its expensive, but then its a central London bar not a pub in Rickmansworth. The toilets might stand for a revamp, but then theres also no guy in there expecting you to give him two quid to hand you a towel either.
Ive generally used this bar as an early evening watering hole, when it can be quite quiet and you can actually have a chat. The service can be a bit slow when it gets busy, but the staff have always been friendly to me. They also let you know which bourbons are on offer, which is useful information.
The ambience of the place is somewhere between Belgo Central (alas, without the range of beer) and Hrothgars Mead Hall. There is a fine collection of hard liquor. And the Nordic is just around the corner if youre on a crawl.

Nice food for Xmas parties etc, but the toilets are rank.

Nice decor, good DJ, but when you are paying these prices for drinks you expect a bit more from the toilets.

a bar much typical of its area, staffed with out of work actors who deem themselves beyond the job in hand.
listen you deluded, talentless beckham-lites, you're out of work actors for a reason; the bill can only employ so many of you at any one time. you're not gonna be talent spotted in this place, the casting director f*c ked off 20 minutes ago as he had to wait so long to get served!
buy a couple of cans from tesco and plot down with the winos outside the post office, you'll be glad you did.

Went there last night for a couple of drinks, early evening, with my girlfriend. When paying my card off at the bar I was told to wait as the machine was busy. The woman remembered after 5 minutes then declared "Do you realise its a 15 minimum spending limit?"
I pointed out her colleague told me it was 10 hence me using the card. Her disparaging remark "I'll let you off this time" was met with disapproval. When we complained after she had told my girlfriend "I'm not talking to you" she would only reveal herself as the manager, minus any name.
Her colleague came to the bar and backed me up, confirming he'd told me the minimum card spend was 10. Looking sheepish but unrepentant she thrust my card back at me. We indicated we'd probably avoid the bar in future after the rude service, that was met with a dismissive about turn.
The layout works, the tables well spaced, drinks are reasonable but very worrying if you're using a card and the staff think its 10 spend, while the "manager" says its 15! The service alone made it extremely avoidable in future, there are plenty of similar pubs such as Salvador & Amanda where the staff are pleasant and the decor even nicer.

not as good as it was about a year back, went last friday and they were out of most draft lagers, and the staff behind the bar were sloooooooooow.
the girls at the cloakroom were lovely, friendly and chatty though and deserve 10 stars!

Didn't plan on going here, didn't eat here, didn't drink here. Turned up with some mates - slightly pissed, blagged free entry, danced to the fab DJing

not worth a pilgrimage

Despite the discouraging Internet reviews Jerusalem had received, we choose this bar as the venue for our 2004 Christmas meal. We were not disappointed. The twenty of us had a fabulous time and would quite happily return without hesitation.
Contrary to previous postings, the service was prompt, friendly and efficient. In short: excellent. The food was well prepared; full of flavour, and thoroughly enjoyable. Depending on what you ordered portions were a little hit and miss - some selections more ample than others. What was lacking in quantity was suitably made up in quality.

Had to comment about this place after I went there a fortnight ago for a friends birthday. Night in general was good, but this bar's a bit pricey and up-it's-own arse though. Best demonstrated by this exchange at the bar: Me: Pint of Bruges please Barman: Your sure mate? Me: Er, yes. I like Bruges. Barman: You realise its 4.80 a pint? Me: I see. Christ. Make that a Grolsch then.
What's all that about? Honest barman though - good lad!

Went there Sat 20th. Arranged a guest list at the site and went like clock work. They had some kind of text flirt night going on - really cool and got lucky!

Nice decor, music goes a bit ghetto and you get sick of shouting at your friends, but unbelievable staff. Girl on the door made me pay to get in at 8:02, when it's free before 8, even though I'd set up a guestlist and was guaranteeing loads of business for them. Then the bar staff refused to serve food since they just "got a big group in". Shouldn't a restaurant be able to handle their reservations? Finally, the girl on the door tried to charge me again since I was forced to go outside for food. The bouncer was the only decent person in the place - you don't hear that too often. Too many people on power trips, with no regard for customer service or repeat business. I speak for a group of 20 friends who will never be going there again.

Toilets are a bit minging, and the bouncers could do with some happy pills.

Used to be a really good bar. Went there last week and the atmosphere was as flat as the beer. Worse than that was the bad attitude of the bar staff. After finally managing to get the staff to break away from their chit-chat in the corner (and it wasn't at all busy), finally got served a very flat pint of lager. On telling the bar person it was flat, I was told in an abrupt manner 'no it's not!' this same conversation then continued with a further 2 bar staff until one of them plucked up the courage to try it. Was then offered a repalcement pint as it was flat, with no hint of an apology for being abrupt. Customer always right...not at Jerusalem.

Quite a good bar, considering the high potential to be snotty. Based underground via some stairs and a fairly amiable bouncer, Jerusalem sell pretty good Belgian beers - Leffe, etc - and the music's generally pretty good. Well, pop & R&B, mainly. Also a restuarant, the pub tables tend to be hard to come by and often have reserved signs on them. Can get fairly crowded, but half that crowd are fit. Nowt to pay before, erm, 9-ish, I guess?
