Apparently due to re-open end of Feb 2017 after having some money spent on it by Punch Taverns.

Went here for the first time yesterday and will definitely be going back, really lovely cosy pub, very clean with nice décor & friendly atmosphere, we only stayed for 2 drinks as had other plans but had a look at the menu and will be going back again at some point to have lunch there, Bar staff were nice too :-) I imagine with the location it does well with all the office workers. My mum and sister work around the corner from here so will be recommending it to them for their lunch.

In response to The Pineapple; What a disgraceful remark! The pub is not open on a weekend because the licensees are homosexual, therefore clearly too busy gallivanting to open the pub for you? How about the pub is in a location that doesn't get any weekend trade and you are a homophobe?
Blue Scrumpy, sorry but as a regular at the Lion I seriously doubt you had to wait 10 minutes and got completely ignored. The Lion is a class little pub and the staff are nothing but helpful.
Previous two posts strike me as people with axes to grind, I mean who posts on here at half eight on new years eve ffs?

I headed to the Cross Keys after waiting nearly 10 minutes at the bar of the Lion and being completely ignored. I wouldn't have bothered if I had known it was run by the same people as the Lion! Indeed, my mood didn't improve much when I found the Cross Keys closed. I assumed it was closed for good, as there were for sale signs on the outside. But the previous reviews on here have made me doubt this. Maybe it was just closed for the weekend. But with most of my visits being on weekends, it might as well be closed for good anyway. 0/10.

Not bad now its being run by homosexual couple called Sean and Michael.
But both are too busy gallivanting about to be bothered to open on weekends. Lazy really if you ask me.

Re-opened after a short closure, now managed by Sean and Michael of The Lion Tavern.
Mostly a daytime pub for the pie and pint lunch crowd, good food, 3 free of tie handpumps promised, recent redecoration somewhat overbearing, garden, large private room. Open in evening but shuts if no customers present. Closed weekends. Some of this may change as Sean and Michael assess the pub.
Difficult to find, between Old Hall Street and Bixteth, not visible from main roads.

First visit here yesterday. The pub has a fairly modern look with plain walls and relatively new carpets. Live football was showing on the multiple TVs, making the pub rather busy. Nothing really to recommend about it. Bombardier & Deuchars were the 2 ales on offer.

Used to be a complete dive up until a few years ago. Since being refurbished it is a comfortable, upmarket pub. Good selection of drinks including a couple of ales. Beware the steep steps when going to the gents!
