The best of the posher food pubs in the area - consistently high standards. Also a very nice interior.

Food good - service at best surly, at worst downright rude. Won't be returning after a disappointing birthday lunch.

Never heard a bad word said about this place. Excellent food and decent beer too.

Couldn't fault the exceptional Sunday lunch we enjoyed today. Fresh, good quality
ingredients & friendly, efficient service. Our mussels & roast beef from
the fixed menu were first class, as were the lemon meringue pie & home-made
ices. A quick glance at fellow customers revealed a similar level of satisfaction.

On arrival our request not to be seated next to the roaring log-fire (on the first really warm Spring day) was swiftly granted & we were moved to a larger table,
while at the end of the meal our host dealt solicitously over a broken wine-glass. Difficult to reconcile this level of attention with the comments made by the unfortunate wedding party. Anyone can have an off-day, I suppose.....

Serves Excellent Ales and top quality food, with great fire in winter time and outside eating for those summer eavening.

Just as good as the Tite Inn at Chadlington even though it's just been voted North Oxon CAMRA Pub of the Year, judges obviously missed the royal oak

Lovely pub - good food, excellent beer. Have had a few meals here, with a large group of people at Christmas, where we did chop and change numbers a bit, but they were very accomodating. Set menu very good value. Have eaten and drunk here with our 2 year old and it has always seemed very child friendly. Would disagree with the comment about the Tite Inn - haven't found the beer there as good (a bit dead). R

Nice food but... well, it's not so much a pub, more a restaurant that serves beer. Suggest visiting the Tite Inn in Chadlington instead (~5 miles away) where the food's just as good but the pub/restaurant balance is better.

My family stayed at the Royal Oak the night before and the night after my wedding. We booked a table for dinner the night before and unavoidably, 7 of the 15 covers were late in arriving as they were setting up the hall for the wedding. We called to say that we would be late and on arrival, were met with a barrage of abuse. We were told by the manager that we were nothing but an inconvenience, that we should pay for the meal and then he would throw us out onto the street. Two of the guests decided to leave as they were so upset at the abuse. The rest of us stayed and ate what I would describe as very mediocre food. As the bride to be, I was extremely upset about this and feel that he ruined the night before my wedding, which should have been a happy event. I will not forgive him for this and we shall not be going to the Royal Oak again. Nor shall any of my friends.

Great place for a spot of lunch - the cheese selection on the Ploughmans was great - the beer well kept - and all aout war with the local wasps kept us entertained whilst we waited (and ate) our dinner!

We waited over an hour for our food as did the people at the next table. The food was average but overpriced and my main course wasn't hot so I sent it back. I politely complained to the manager and said that we were disappointed in the service as we had heard good things about the pub. He disputed the fact my fish was cold, challenged me on the length of our wait and told me if I wanted fast food to go to McDonald's. We won't be going back.

Great pub, dog friendly, child friendly, amazing food, try the smoked salmon and scrambled egg....The owners are extremely friendly and you will always see a local propping up the bar....great!

V. friendly, very traditional looking pub in a stunning little village with fantastic food (especially the roast on Sunday, 14.90 for 3 courses). has a small restaurant and seperate bar area and visitors to both can choose from either bar or restaurant menu. Specials on boards. It's advisable to book. Chocolate and brandy ice-cream is orgasmic! Even for a non-chocolate eater...
