Silver King, Ossettback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Nice place for a decent pint. We've only eaten there once when it first opened and it was a little bit pricey. Since it has been under new management we haven't been for food but had a look on the menu and it seems better priced. However, don't go if you're fussy about food because it's quite fancy - not typical pub grub. Might want to go for a drink first before deciding whether to have food or not and have a cheeky look at the menu! I guess it depends on the kind of food you're in to.

I had Sunday dinner there yesterday, and it was great. not too pricey, and the beers are top notch, well kept and reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunateky I over-indulged a little last night and am feel the effects today. Defintely worth a visit

Eaten here on many lunchtimes.Staff very helpful. The landlady made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Chips are first class.I wil be trying the evening menu very soon. This is what ossett needs a good place to eat and drink without been over priced like other pubs in ossett. Another reason to visit is the cider Addlesfords i think pull me a pint im on my way down cheers.

Pub has been renivated to a high standard and is very welcoming, all staff are polite and always happy to talk to you, i also ate there and thought the food was superb. Reading through the comments made on here i think that you should'nt knock it till you've tried it. I am not a fan of real ale but i've been converted, 8 fantastic hand pull ales. Will definatley use the silver king again in near future, in fact i've booked to have my daughters wedding reception there. I would recommend this pub to anyone!

Clean pub done out in the Ossett style with stone floors and bare brick walls. Real stove in the restaurant and one in the bar, both unfortunately not lit. Called the Silver King, for what reason it's named after one of the beers I don't know, but would have been better sticking with something relevant like "Victoria"! The beer really is a perfect pint, Excelsior, Silver King and Pale Gold were excellent, crisp and clear in ultra clean glasses. The guest dark beer was excellent also. A Fernandes beer was also available at a bargain 1.90. Had some food here, was good, real homemade chips. Steak and Kidney pie on the specials board was 8.95 so they must have had a reality check. No Jensen Interceptor outside on this visit...

I live within 10 minutes walk of this pub, and being a fan of Ossett Brewery ales, thought this was a dream come true!
Inside, the pub is very nicely decorated - the old photographs of Ossett do add a bit of history to the place.
The selection of beers is great, but I am not sure it is attracting a dedicated clientel just yet - a lot of people pass through due to the restauraunt side.
I have only eaten there once, and the food was nice enough and the service quite good.
However, my general feeling is that it is the staff that let the place down.
They seem to be constantly gossiping and some are quite arrogant.
It just not feel very welcoming at the moment, and I am a local resident - I wonder how it is for people outside of the area?

A good addition to the Ossett scene. The food very good with attentive service. A good selection of ales including the great local Ossett Brewery ale and several guests, so far always served in good condition.

Beer has only ever been superb, Ossett beer especially. They do a great range of ales and there is always a black beer available. I look forward to having the opportunity to eat here.

The ale and the pub decor are the highlights of this pub, the food and the service in the food area is a shambles. On asking where my wife would like to go for a meal for her Birthday she chose The Silver King of which we had eaten before we thought it was a little expensive but ( Steak and ale pie on its own best part of 12) but food tasted great. The food we chose for the wife birthday was a starter of Asparagus (wife) & Pigdeon breast for myself of which I found 2 lead shot in which almost broke a tooth when asked whether I enjoyed the starter the person serving thought I was joking about the shot so I had to explain to him why the shot was in the pidgeon. On rightfully asking whether I would require another starter my wife had almost finished her asparagus starter so I declined. for the main I ordered The Pan roasted Halibut wrapped in streaky bacon which came with vegatables (price of main 15.50) the Halibut was rubbery and the veg still had cling film wrapped round the edge of the bowl which identified that the veg were microwaved...nice. when we were asked half way through the meal whether everything was fine I explain in a polite manner that it wasn't and the service girl walked off not asking why but she did find time to snigger. Feeling pretty deflated about the whole experience being my wifes Birthday, I went to pay Unfortuntly the service person was not caring enough to say sorry for any part of the botched meal, but he did knock the pidgeon off the bill. I asked if I could have the Halibut taken off too, after alot of arguing from the service person they asked why I had not said anything about the Halibut during the meal, so I explained that I had to the Service girl and that she just walked off laughing.
One more thing my wife ordered a Steak and blue cheese pie and there was no crust and I mean no crust on the pie. All it was, was a bowl of steak in gravy with two dumplings. Maybe I'm being silly but don't pie come in a pie??
Plus being only of two couple eating in their that had plenty of time to cook all the food correctly and not take short cuts Microve the Veg and I imagine the fish.

Simply put, a great pub. 8 real ales, all in fantastic condition. Food looked fine and the bar staff were very friendly indeed. Would definitely return to this well turned-out outlet.

The twelfth outlet for the Ossett Brewery, described by them as a bar and bistro. Converted from a former pub (The Victoria), its situated in a residential street a few minutes walk from the town centre.
Recently opened after a major refurbishment, the four rooms look very handsome indeed: Features include stone-flagged and wooden floors, exposed brick and stonework, original beams and wood burning stoves. Plus, decor and fixtures to the usual high standard, expected from Ossett.
The balance is very much in favour of food, with three of the rooms being designated as dining only. The bar is obviously a holding area for diners, although attractive in its own right. Following a certain logic, no food is eaten in the bar.
There were eight real ales on our visit, four from Ossett and four guests. The quality of the Excelsior and particularly the Silver King was superb. However, youd really expect no less, with the brewery only being a mile away.
The young barmaid was warm, welcoming and chatty. The atmosphere was quite relaxed when we called on Wednesday lunchtime, although with that slightly subdued newly opened feel
Im not normally one to stray into A.A. Gill territory on BITE. However, as so much importance is placed on food at the Silver King, I feel I need to pass some comment. On the basis of what I ate, the menu promises much but doesnt deliver. A goats cheese and vegetable tart had woeful cardboard pastry, even being charred underneath. The filling was tasteless, with no hit from the goats cheese whatsoever. To serve a four inch tart, a two inch tumbleweed of salad leaves and four roasted cherry tomatoes on a deep rectangular plate, fifteen inches by eight struck me as overly fussy and even a tad pretentious. Stylish presentation cannot disguise indifferent food. Being generous, the kitchen may still be finding its feet. I hope so.
There was a reasonable wine list and the young waiter was friendly and attentive.
In short, I would definitely return for the beer, but the jurys still out on the food.

Was formerly the "Victoria". Now serves a good range of Ossett Brewery ales. Good welcome.
