Popped in for a quickie yesterday while waiting for a bus.
Seems to have increased the number of pumps - I counted 8 - but they were serving at least 2 of the beers on gravity! Strange.
4 beers on offer - the Exmoor that I had on gravity was fine although a little warm.
Staff seemed rather disorganised - I asked about opening time on a Saturday and was told "sometime between 1130 and 1200 when someone turns up". Helpful - not!

A to let sign outside again yesterday. A month ago when i visited it was 11am opening - now noon! Not a good sign!
|
Not too sure about what they've tried to do in here with the interior, but it serves a good pint and the barman was friendly - so as we just called in here on spec on a rainy day whilst in the area it was a nice find.
|
Excelllent food and atmosphere in the evening, leaflet claiming a good place for coffee in the mornings, but disappointing when tried this. When asked for the advertised cakes the barman wielded a handful of prepackaged flapjacks and the like . The same items might have tempted if arranged attractively on a plate with a doiley - perhaps they are missing a trick! Several groups of ladies arrived after we got there, so this must be a worthwhile market to cultivate. All the chairs were hard, a couple of sofas in cosy corners with a coffee table would be really nice.Appreciate they have only just reopened so look forward to improvements!

Cotleigh Tawny and Barn Owl were on when I visited yesterday. Apparently there was an official reopening night on Friday 26th, so someone else is having a go. During my brief stop some locals were in conversation with the chef/proprietor and complimenting him on the general ambience, the pub in general and the meal they had recently enjoyed. One thing I learned whilst there is that they have a gin (48%) which is made from apples. Blimey! Makes a good pink gin though.

Visited again yesterday only 3 weeks after my previous visit. Seems to have changed management. Opening hours now advertised as 1000 - 2300 Mon - sat and 1200 - 2300 Sunday. On the downside, only Doombar available.
|
Otter Bitter and Butcombe on offer yesterday at 3 a pint. Quality was fine despite being the first served. Boards outside advertise open 1100 - 2300 Monday - Saturday and 1200 - 1600 Sunday although they didn't open until about 1115.
Looks a bit bare, partly because of the awful colour it was painted by the fools who tried to take it up market, but at least it is open!
Planning Application from Enterprise fixed to the wall outside for 3 flats on part of the car park.

The lethbridge Arms has re-opened again as a village local, with pool tabe and juke box in the old public bar, a restaraunt at one end and a sloon in between. The garden could use a spade and the bar could use some better beer, only the Otter Ale and ever-present Doom Bar being available; the Otter was ok, if a little warm.
Early days; lets hope it improves and gets back to how it was a couple or three years ago.

Closed and lease for sale

pub was not open & being done up the week i visited, had a nice steak & kidney in the bell and some exmoor ale at the bird in hand
|
I thought it already had been turned into a gastro pub,. and not a very good one either. Beer's not up to much either, If you want accommodation in that neck of the woods try the Anchor at Hillfarrance. A bit remoter without a motor.
|
the pub has been repainted outside & work is going on inside, hope its not going to turn into anothr gastro pub. i personally would like it to have some reasonable priced accomodation as bishops lydyeard is a great base for visiting the west somerset railway & the quantocks, also a shot bus ride from taunton (i dont have a car).

Oh dear. Paid a visit to this pub for a few drinks with my friends. The decor seems to indicate a confused picture of what this pub is trying to be and looks like a hotch-potch, mainly tat. The manager doesn't seem to know that a pint should be exactly that - and a half-inch gap at the top of the glass isn't the done thing. Left after just one pint. No ambience and short-changed on the beer front.
|
Certainly open - strange choice of colour for the external repaint means that the signs are rather hard to read! A fair bit of dosh has been spent on doing the inside up - trying to be a more up market food place rather than a drinking pub.
Taylors Landlord, Doombar and Otter available yesterday. Quality was fine but I can't say that I felt particulaly welcome as a non-eater. Menu looked to be fairly standard mid-range stuff to me.
Waiting staff all rather young and disorganised - bar service not great. I really don't want to be "greeted" on arrival in a pub like you are in a posh restaurant and asked if I have a reservation!
Doesn't open until 1130 alhough there are no obvious opening hours signs.

All the staff very friendly and very accommodating, the head waiter showed us to our table and offered us drinks, the service is 100% the food is outstanding, the atmosphere is very pleasant children are welcome, brilliant venue for all the family I strongly recommend paying a visit to this establishment.

Pleasant venue having recently reopened and renovated it seems. The Doombar and Otter ales were very good. Seeks to be a Gastro pub but our experience of the meals were that they were "adequate" and on that basis a bit overpriced for what we got. If the quality had been better the price would be fine. The staff were pleasant but need to know more the food they offer and what beers they have ( wife was told one lager was "off" so only Amstell available, when in fact others were still on.) I think the new owner/managers were away when we went in so it may have been different if they were there. The Farmers Arms at Coombe Florey a couple of miles away was the best around for beer and food.

I hear this place is open again
|
Opening again soon I hear - lets hope it gets back to how it was a few years ago.
|
so-so a bit local
|
Closed and acquired by enterprise inns - I'm not surprised.

Didn't have long in Bishops Lydeard before we had to catch the last steam train back to Minehead so only managed this pub. Cotleigh beers on which I managed to sample 2 1/2 pints of, the landlady was lovely and we talked for some length on the beer tie and how she was struggling to keep the ales so reasonably priced. Saw this pub on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, can't comment on clientele on a Fri and Sat night as landlady mentioned they get all sorts in. Recommend this pub but leave yourself longer than 1 hour.
|
Late comment from September visit. Walked up from the station for a beer and had no problem with beer or staff. Enjoyed 2 Cotleigh beers.
|
I have visited several times during the last few months and have on each occasion found The Lethbridge Arms to be excellent. The landlady and her staff are lively, good natured and full of banter. Food was excellent, I had the steak and ale pie, which was made with local produce and made for a good hearty meal.
I usually stay with friends in the area, however on the latest occasion I took a room at the Inn, and was very pleased with my accommodations, and delighted with the English breakfast that followed in the morning.
I have not yet had the good fortune to visit on a Monday, however I do intend to as it is apparently skittles night. I understand the pub boasts Somerset's longest skittles alley at around 100 feet! I saw it from the outside and it looked pretty long, I wonder whether people's scores tend to drop as it gets later into the evening. The tawny ale I drink is always very well kept.
Overall an excellent pub with lots going for it, thoroughly recommended.
|
Paid a return visit on Sunday Lunchtime to see if the business has picked up again following the change in management; it has'nt.
There were more staff than punters when we left at around 2.30pm, not surprising due to the unwelcoming nature of the landlady and other staff. The otter Ale which I purchased was not very well kept either, probably the first one of the day judging by the lack of customers.
I won't be back for a few months (assuming its still open in a few months). Shame!!
|
I was always impressed with the beer selection.
|
16th C coaching inn close to the bus stop from Taunton and Minehead. Good beer and food
|
New owners and gone downhill rapidly; it was virtually empty on Sunday lunchtime where six months ago the place would have been packed. Its a shame because this was a great locals pub.
On a more positive note, they still have 3 good local real ales on the go.
