Poor beer selection, staff seem to know nothing about it and appear not interested in it!

Trying hard, not much idea about beer, uninspiring section, including the ubiquitous Doom bar, but the punters love it. Turn the heating up!

The Chapel is re-opening on Friday 16 November, under new ownership. This time it will be a proper village pub rather than a trumped up 'fine-dining gastro-pub', so will be much more popular with the locals, who do actually visit pubs. Best of luck to the new owners, and see you on Friday.

I think it was the pubs poor location that led to it's inevitable closure. Situated in a souless modern village where people never go out to pubs. Add that to the way the place was run it's hardly suprising it went under.
Rumours abound that this will soon reopen as a greedy king pub. It is difficult to understand how anything could be worse than the way it was, but I.m afraid with GK it will be
Closed - eventually. I knew it would, the arrogant landlord does'nt have a clue how to run a pub. Great shame for the village.
I agree Paris. They hardly have many people here at the best of times, in fact they should try paying customers to go there, not charge them for doing so. I rarely visit this place as the whole concept is just too tacky, and as noted, the beers are uninspiring. I think the landlord lost the plot some time ago.

WTF? 15 entrance fee on new years eve!!! absolutely ridiculous; I'm surprised they had any punters in at all. Beer range is unambitious, with the ever present Doom Bar and Otter Bitter + 2 other equally unambitious guests, usually Cotleigh. Entrance strewn with fag ends and other litter. I am starting to think that the landlord has lost the plot.

What a pitiful example of a pub this is, Cringe making in it's crass tastelessness. About as crassly tasteless as the hole of Cotford st Luke
After a couple of weeks with some improved local ales it seems we are back to the usual Doom Bar/Flowers Original/Bass. A major step backwards I'm afraid.
Rumour has it that the beer here may soon improve drastically.............. I wait with baited breath
I'd like to know whats going on here . The other night the only choice of ale was Draught Bass, the ubiquotous (?) Doom Bar, and Flowers Original?!?!
Why can't we have some good local stuff like Taunton, Quantock, Moor, Glastonbury, RCH etc etc
food good but expensive , looks shut due to all the weeds, door around the opposite side to road, don't bother walking around the estate (sorry "village") afterwards , even with beer goggles it still everything thats wrong with modern british housing - Ugh!!
Three very nice pints of Exminster and Topsham Ferryman the other night; but another place where a greater variety other than Otter and Sharps would be very welcome.
Recently I called to Chapel, and what a splendid job they have done for a refurbishment for the outlet. A group of us had a meal there and friendly helpful staff. The food was superb, the dessert was a bit slow to come but it came but they apologised. There were 3 local traditional ales on show, I think possible that they could expand that range. I would recommend a visit
Thanks Paris, I stand corrected - it was Tone vale.
I've been in a few times over the last couple of years and found no ale on, though I'm aware they do try. Better luck next time, maybe.

Just to correct ETA, the building was the chapel for the former Tone Vale Hospital - Musgrove Park is 6 miles away in the centre of Taunton.
There are always 3 ales on here, usally Doom Bar, Otter Bitter and a 'guest' from breweries such as Cotleigh, Exeter, O'Hanlons, Exmoor. Hobgoblin was on last night . The quality of the ales is sometimes inconsistent, but usually perfectly drinkable.
on a plus side we received a friendly welcome on a recent visit. Liked the layout and the Palmers beer was excellent . The food however was strangely inconsistent. My starter was wonderful but the pasta main course was truly awful. Plain dry pasta, a few peas, three prawns and no sauce.I returned it and ten minutes later it re-appeared exactly the same !! Shame, okay place to drink but won"t be back to eat !!

An interesting conversion of the old Musgrove Park Hospital chapel (the clue's in the name) into a fairly new community watering hole. The entrance, once I got past the barrier of chewing gum and litter, was blocked by the Somerset Village Idiots Union Annual Outing. Having managed to negotiate my way through this, I was disappointed to find no real ale. The pint of cold Megakeg I settled for was drinkable but not particularly enjoyable. I had a half-decent conversation with an aged, bearded "local" who, it transpired, actually came from London. These factors, along with the depressing location, make this an establishment to avoid, especially as there are proper pubs a couple of miles away.

Massive selection of drinks. Different guest ale each week which is great for a village pub. They had 3 different draught lagers, 4 different draught bitters/ales plus draught Guiness and Ciders. A true free house. Prices not un-reasonable for a village pub in hard economic times. Food very good, friendly bar staff.
i had a lovely pint or two of bass here a week ago and found the staff really friendly and very helpful - the food was mid priced for the area and well presented and tasted wonderful - this is a privately owned pub and it looks like the budget has run a little thin when it came to the exterior finish, hopefully this summer will see it's completion to match the dramatic interior of this brave venture the "nearby pub" mentioned by dr pangloss is poor by comparison and should be avoided

I wouldn't walk past here to go to the nearby pub Dr Pangloss mentions
It should be noted that Bldwin works at a nearby pub (Royal Oak) although essentially all he has said is correct.
Just opened in the old hospital chapel in the village; tastefully done with many original features used in the rebuilding - the old altar is now the bar. Three hand pumps, Otter, Doom bar, Ferryman; food is reportedly good too, though I have'nt tried it yet.
On the downside, it is not yet finished outside; if you drove past you would not know it was a pub if you didn't know it was !??!?!!
It will be even better when it is finished
