Having suffered the terrible Bar CR0 and CR0Bar in Croydon I would generally advise people to give 'Postcode named bars' a thorough wide berth. This place is nothing like the aforementioned holes. This is an example of how to do a trendy town centre bar properly.
"Trendy" pub, thinks it's better than it is (it's in the perfect town for that though!), there are better pub's with better beer's and FAR better food than this place. If you like quirky and different, go to Sankeys down the road.
Fabulous, the bar to go to in Tunbridge Wells. Whenever I go there it's full of vibrant people, especially on the weekends. The Cocktails are real cocktails, the beers are cold and fresh and the food is spot on. Great decor really funky.
Not great at all - ended up here with friends as nearby Sankeys was full and not allowing any more in. No ale was available and the place was crowded, with a few undesirables. Bar service slow and overpriced
Hey I LOVE this bar. Cracking night out, great cocktails - a little gem.
I never like looking an idiot as I loved this place a few months back, but............ I went back here today after being out of town for a while, what has happened to the place ? The exterior is an odd shade of pink, the interior is terrible and when I went to order lunch..... nothing but tapas... Sopranos in the High Street is the best place in town for this (and cheaper). I do feel terrible after recommending this venue as I will never be back myself, why change a good thing ?.... not good... best place for food in the wells now... Thorins with out a doubt..
Very rude Veryfrank, my guess is maybe a TN4 member of staff?? I never spoke of the colour of the sofas, just dislike them, and still do after sitting on them! I also guess by your witty end text you predict i drink Stella Artois, well im afraid i tend to drink Mojito's on a night out, thus explaining my point, and the reason i have posted a comment! Poor form!!
Still the best in town! Loving the new tapas menu and the cocktails are still excellent. I must disagree with the previous comment (MrMuggles), the refurb looks great - and the comfy leather burgandy sofas are identical to, and just as comfy as, the previous leather burgandy sofas! Bar girls still most pleasing - enchanting, chatty and knowlegable. I suspect MrMuggles should stay closer to his pint of Stella...
What on earth has happened here??? The coolest most vibrant bar in Tunbridge Wells, wicked music, good cocktails and a nice crowd of people, gone in the year i have spent away from town! So up its own arse now by the look of the decor, the sofas have changed and look like something from a 70's porno, artwork is cool though! I have a few mates who work near there and used to pop in for lunch but they have gone the route of tapas?? Why?? The staff cant make a Mojito for gods sake, and where are the hot bargirls of the last few years?? surely as a cocktail bar its kind of essential! Really dissapointing, such a shame, it was the place to go!
Went to this bar recently after walking out of Sankeys (few doors up), never really thought it would be my kind of venue....... How wrong could I have been, great bar with great staff and the cocktails.... well they are something to write home about. Definitely a more "professional" class of customer, with not a chav in sight. Great selection of both bottled and draft beer, good wine and the biggest shock for me was the great quality of food, especially the daily special risotto.... yum! 100% the best bar in town, it will become my "local" for sure.
Almost definatley the best pub in TW. Friendly staff with big smiles who know how to put a drink together. Great music and atmosphere, and, shall we say a better class of customer? Yes it gets a bit cramped in here when it's busy, but thats kind of un-avoidable (a busy pub IS a full pub!). Yes, sometimes you bang your head when you go to the toilets (tends to sober me up a bit, no bad thing!), but if its a good night out that you are looking for, look no further!
OOOO yea another thing about this place is the toilets, i'm quite tall but always bump my head on the way down i wish they could sort this out.....
Badly designed inside but good fun if you can get one of the small areas.
Pain in the a*se when its busy cos all he seating gets taken up and some people are forced outside..
Love the TN4! The staff are very polite, jokey and friendly and make great cocktails. Really great for quiet drinks on a sunday...loves it.

Hmmmmmm, it's ok for Tunbridge wells. But thats not saying much. Takes ages to get served at weekends, but then again show me a pub/bar worth being in that doesn't.....It's not Uber Trendy or cutting edge, more middle of the road. All in all it's ok!!
What a great bar! Hadn't ever been into tn4 before but happened to stray into it with a few friends on haloween night and had a blast. The bar staff seemed lots of fun (and the bargirls were HOT!), the DJ was playing some top tunes and there was a really good vibe about the place... it also made a change to be in a busy bar where you're not left waiting ten minutes to be served!! Good work tn4.

Nice place.Certainly no chavs or children in here.Smart bar staff and customers.Fairly "trendy" all in all.
I paid this place a visit when it was converted from the fight club that was the george and wasn't particuarly impressed. Went back last weekend, what a transformation! It now has real atmosphere, friendly customers/staff and they do a killer long island ice tea. This may be my new favourite in TW!!

One of the better pubs in TW. Has a good mix of people and a nice atmosphere. Good place to go in the week when not quite so busy(unless you like it that way)
Excellant food! Wonderful specials and fantastic, fresh daily menu. Have had many delicious meals here.
Tn4 is a really charming place, has a nice cosy feel to it on weekday evenings, and although busy at the weekends the clientele are friendly and the atmosphere is always relaxed. The staff are great: not only are the girls gorgeous but they are compentent at their job and can hold a decent conversation - once had to wait an hour for my friend to turn up but thanks to Amy and Sophie keeping my pint topped up and making me laugh the time passed really quickly! Sundays are a particular favourite - Tn4 is a great place to spend the end of the week relaxing on the sofa with a few mates. The one thing that would make it better is an open fire, but I guess fire regulations are pretty strict nowadays.
One of the better places to drink in Tunbridge Wells, when busy the small bar area can be murder but that aside it is a very good pub with a friendly atmosphere, particularly once the people using it as a warm up to a night in the "Pitcher" have got sufficiently lubricated to naff off there.
I visited this bar on a wednesday evening and spent a lovely couple of hours drinking cocktails which were knowledgably put together and tasted suberb. They weren't cheap, but were two for one on the night in question, so we couldn't complain. TN4 has a lovely feel to it, very warm and chic, and best of all, at 42 and 43 respectively, my wife and I didn't feel too old to be in there. Wonderful!
I was there last week, and frankly I was a bit disappointed, the previous comments that TN4 was a good bar is correct (6 months ago!) but now it has just gone a bit down market, where did all the so called "professionals" dissapear to then? all i saw were "P & P" people and we all know how bad that bar has got! The young barmen has really got to refine his people skills to the rest of us "non-regular" customers, and not just show off in front of the rest of the staff and regulars. Also, please, please, please stop changing the music half way through a song, we all felt like we were playing musical chairs!
Thank you
Ali

The finest bar in Tunbridge Wells. Excellent service, Good clientele, Quality staff. The drinks are expensive and we like it that way, since it generally excludes the social undesirables who are found in most other bars in TW. Soon to have an extended license which means I no longer need to subject myself to the Pitcher & Piano.
Genius!
I regularly enjoy a nite in tn4 with the girls! great atmosphere good music, drinks are pricey, but the clientel are generally classy! If I had one complaint though it would be some of the other regulars, they stare too much!
great place for a few drinks, you can curl up on a sofa and relax. Then on thurs friday and sat nightit is the most active and diverse place, great staff friendly and fun if theres one place you should go to for a night its tn4 its class
was there with my mates a few weekends ago, and had mixed feelings about the place!one thing i notice when i saw some people order a big round of shots was that after the barman had poured the shots from the shaker into their shotglass, the barman put the shaker to one side, then a few seconds later the greasy young man poured a shot out for himself!rather pikey-ish!apart from that it was very packed and extremely fun!previous comment about a mature crowd is true (mostly rich professionals - yummy!) cocktails are a bit dear but are great to drink, does take a long time to make so don't order loads of cocktails when the bar is packed! all in all not that bad!
an over 21's bar so you don't get any of the schoolkids mingling there! chilled atmosphere, drinks are a bit pricy but at least it keeps the chavs away! music is ok and they have dj's some nights. food is good, but the chef seems unkeen to cook sometimes 'cos he wants to go home! all in all i'll give it a 7 out of 10!!

If you want cocktails go to que pasa, tn4 is bland and like the pitcher and piano full of pretentious middle aged men

tn4 is a relaxed bar located at the top end of tunbridge wells, away from all the "chain" pubs!the drinks are quite pricey but they do make good cocktails with good measures! their clientele are mostly professional (usually consisting of doctors and lawyers), but you won't feel alienated even if you don't fit into these categories!they have a garden area both to the front and rear which is the excellent when the sun is out! the only reservation i have of the place was when i was there once with a friend, and a large gentleman asked her to take off her hat because it was a policy of theirs to keep up a certain image. We didn't mind that, but the fact that the barman wasn't exactly dressed that well(black top; combats; yellow trainers??!!?), made us quite annoyed! nevermind, i guess his washing machine was just broken that week!

when it was called 'the george' it was rather special - a very old and charismatic place with toilets that reeked of the eighteenth century. well, they've tarted it up and hiked up the prices and i have to say i preferred it before. check out the beau nash across the road instead.
richard - 31 May 2004 17:47 |
overpriced & poncy - no atmosphere. a barbecue area that wastes space and looks like a barn - as for the tiny garden - 'best thing since babylon' - i don't think so, much prefer it as it was. the food and the company used to be good. the manager and his buddies are as pointed out in another comment rude and arrogant.

I have to say that after a few dodgy nights out in TW after moving here, I was chuffed to pieces to stumble across this place. The music, the people, the drinks and the atmosphere are a saving grace in this town. The staff appeared to actually have personalities and its great to finally find where the attractive women in Tunbridge Wells are hiding themselves! Good work - very good work!
Marky - 18 Apr 2004 15:22 |
TN4 is dyer, Tunbridge Wells lost out big time when they changed from the great late George. TN4 attracts, as stated by a previous writer, a middle aged crowd. I prefer old style pubs, with atmosphere, something that unfortunately the pub lost when TN4 was born. If your looking for a pleasant drink, in a good atmosphere TN4 is NOT the place to go.

Finally a bar in tunbridge wells that polarises opinion! I have been going there since they changed it about a year and a half ago, and can say hand on heart that I have never had a bad night. It's a cracking little bar with a contempory feel, fab cocktails, good wine list and a wide range of beers, Whilst the staff are friendly and knowledgable (never drunk as mentioned in a previous review-they always have to wait until 11pm if I buy them a drink!). Keep up the good work TN4! p.s. can't wait for B.B.Q parties in the summer!

TN4 is full of men in their forties that are convinced they are still 21. They try to pull girls that are 21 because they believe they are God's gift and do not realise the disdainful looks they get from said girls. Keep away if your not looking for men suffering a mid life crisis.

There is nowhere in Tunbridge Wells like the great atmosphere and good food offered by TN4. It offers a mix of casual elegance and pub chic that you don’t get from the ‘chains’. It’s over 21 policy helps to make the pace pleasant for all those that enjoy a good time without kids. Enjoy; there a few places as good anywhere.

Nice bar just to relax and have a coffee or have a few drinks. Food was good!

TN4 is a really nice bar, staff and clientele are lovely. However, there are a couple of mem who are always drinking in there that are friends with the management and they are arrogant and rude to other cstomers just because they drive porches.

I have been drinking in Tunbridge Wells for the last 10 years. TN4 opened about 3 years ago. All I can say is => seems to have no atmosphere, no "buzz" or charm; => the food is ordinary and you don't get a lot for the price. I remember paying 4 for one small roll with a slice of pastrami with a garnish of lettuce leaf; => beer is about average price for TW 2.80 a pint; => clientele quite good, I would say inhabited by professionals normally and graduates - no white trash; => nice outside bit for summer with bbq; => overall not bad but trying too hard to be a London bar in Tunbridge Wells and not really pulling it off. 5/10

Went to this pub in july, paid over 3 for a tiny bottle of strongbow, then 5 for a cocktail, was fun watching it being made, but the fun stopped when i paid 15 for 3 drinks... wont go here again! shazzzam!
Trendy newish pub. Decent beers and reasonable food.

This is my most favourite place in the world! I really like it because I can drink such lovely cocktails and they are only 5 each!
