No wonder the last poster (but one) said this place was surprisingly quiet on a Friday night. The place has gone downhill rapidly and when I do pass, I now always continue on to Dorking. Pity that a lack of interest or ability has ruined what used to be a half decent boozer.

To call this pub 'perfect' is pure madness. Although it has potential, its badly run - under all headings: Beer quality, hygiene, service etc. Most of us Ockley people go elsewhere these days; who could blame us?

Stopped off here for a refreshing drink on journey back to London from the coast. Surprisingly quiet at 7pm on a Friday but Ringwood Best and Marstons Pedigree both excellent. Friendly service, nice large garden with plenty of tables and rare 'ungentrified' interior including bar billiards table and dartboard. In short, the kind of pub you would wish to find in any English village. Perfect.

Traditional and unpretentious roadside pub with low beamed ceilings. Well kept Ringwood bitter and London Pride. Unimaginitive but adequate food.
|
A classic country pub. Unfortunately it's on a busy main road but you don't notice it once inside. Ringwood best on and kept in very good condition. Food all good and friendly service as well. Could do with stoking the fire up a bit, it was surprisingly chilly in there.

I drank in this pub regularly in the late 60s and seventies when it was run by Ray Figg a friend of ollies, there are pictures in the pub of him, great times with me being rescued by ollie while being rather ill in the outside toilets as they where then, ollie did loads for local charities . I am surprised it doesnt use him as a theme in these difficult trading times! cut down the hedging in the front so you can see the pub would help.I drive past at night and the sign isnt even lit up! and its pitch black on that road no street lighting at all! loads of stories about this old pub, ollie hiding up the inglenook chimney( fire still lit) to escape local land owner ( over his daughter). its got history that should be used to its advantage!.

This is a really good country pub with a great fish pond in the garden although the front patio is on a very busy main road. The Sunday roast prices have always been visible on the specials board. Considering they serve local produce I think the price of their 2 course Sunday meal is good value. The ale is extremely well kept and the staff are attentive. This pub is a little treasure

Concur with all of below, apart from the one who wouldn't leave his name. Traditional, cosy feel inside with bar billiards. One normal sized TV which, rather than being a constant overbearing noise as in most pubs, was on at a reasonable volume inthe background only when something was on that someone wanted to watch. May be wrong, but no Sky Sports either I think. Just terrestial channels. All good. Locals the kind of locals you'd hope to find in an establishment if this ilk and were 4 vintage cars parked up when we arrived. Garden in tip-top condition and away from road with a picturesque pond containing large fish including one called George (the largest) who was apparently caught by a local and donated. Staff friendly, helpful and knew how to run a bar. Hard to find any fault. I had a roast and it was fine too. Everything I'd hoped to find in a pub in a place such as Ockley

Lovely old village pub, a dying breed in my opinion. Remember seeing Oliver Reed in here on several occasions many years ago. Recommended.

Had Nice country pub feel and well maintained garden area. I do however have the following issues.
I didnt find the menu very informative as it didnt contain the price of the sunday roast. The price of 8.75 I found a little excessive for the portion received. I passed many pubs in the area offering 2 to 3 courses for between 10 - 12 pounds and carverys for between 5 - 7 pounds.
While waiting for our food we could hear what sounded like the ping of a microwave going off! Microwaved roast dinner is not expected for 8.75 per person.
Overall dissapointing.

Nice old country pub. Very good pint of Ringwood best on, they also had Green king & London Pride. Good food and very cheap midweek: two meals for 10 deal.
|
Lovely cosy place filled with brasses which also boasts a large fireplace . Ringwood and IPA were sampled and perfect. My friends' roasts were not as good as some other venues' offerings in the county, but still OK. Friendly atmosphere.

I agree this is a splendid pub. While I'm sure it serves the local community superbly, it also welcomes visitors.
Well worth a visit.

The Cricks is a solid, traditional, small English pub with very good beers and good, plain, genuinely home-made food.
You wouldn't go to The Cricks (or anywhere else in Ockley!) for a wild night out but the Cricketers is where the locals mostly seem to drink these days and it's very, very friendly. For what it's worth, it's the pub I usually choose to drink in when I'm in the village. Recommended.

Quite a nice traditional little village pub. Beer pretty well kept. (Pride and Ringwood) Brass all polished! Darts and bar billiards table (in good condition). It's got some competition but I expect the other pubs probably see a lot of the passing trade.
We tried to go to The Old School House (Bryces restaurant) down the road but the car park was full to capacity so we popped in here instead and I'm glad we did

Agree with all said by Razor below, being a very traditional English pub, and the grub good quality but pretty standard. Fish dishes consisted of battered cod (large and small) and breaded plaice, and the meat dishes were all also pre-prepared. Given that it was very quiet as there was a quiz in the village hall, the landlord might have been a bit more welcoming, but overall was a reasonable evening's meal. I'd say average range of beers - Pride and Ringwoods + a couple of others. It was not warm, and yet the big inglenook fire was not lit!

We had planned to go to the Kings Arms in Ockley but I punched the wrong postcode into the satnav, and we ended up here. What a charming little pub, low oak beam ceilings, stone floors, nice garden with a pond holding carp that I'd estimate at about 15 to 20 pounds.
Now for the serious stuff......Good selection of beers, although I had to settle for a swift half as I was driving. The menu consists of daily specials as well as fixed meals, we went for the mixed grill which consisted of Rump steak, Gammon steak, Sausage, Fried egg, Fried tomato, Mushrooms, Chips, Peas and salad. Couldn't sample the various sweets as we were too full.
This is a typical little country local that is becoming a rarity. If you plan to visit one of the chain pubs in the area for a meal and drink, give the Cricketers a try instead, I don't think you will go away disappointed.
