Fox and Hounds, Bursledonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This is a charming and atmospheric 16th century country pub hidden in a country lane in Hungerford in the Buseldon area on the fringes of Southampton. Service is quick, friendly and polite. Food is tasty. This is great just for a drink, quick lunch, slow romantic meal, or any special occasion. Owned by Greene King and run under the Chef and Brewer brand they acquired when they bought the Spirit Pub Company.

Severely altered since I last visited many years ago. The pub has been extended and extensively outfitted in posh antique style which although attractive it is no longer the basic pub it was previously, at least there aren't wine glasses sitting on the tables. Both the pub and the Lone Barn are now linked by a common entrance and extension which by its very size can now contain even more tables. The Lone Barn has had practically all its bygone agricultural items removed and is now similarly posh antique in style with wine glasses ready on the tables. It has become very popular, filling up rapidly at lunchtime, there are 3 real ales on the handles and the food pricing seems reasonable. Probably worth another visit

Pretty crappy chain pub( seen one Chef & Brewer you've seen them all) but does have good beer - an excellent pint of Goodens Gold on my last visit albeit at a rather pricey 3.55.

'The front part of the pub is the 'Fox and hounds' and the building dates back to the 16th Century. To the back, the old Lone barn was actually moved from Winchester to its present position and dates from 1871. Very much to the Chef & Brewer style this pub should have a higher rating than it has but over the years the food has let it down but recent reviews seem to say it's on the up. I live locally but only visit this pub once in a blue moon as it's set up visitors and I've never noticed any 'locals'. You can't fault the surroundings and there's no trouble parking unlike some other bozzers in the area. Good choice of beers on with Courage Best,Fullers London Pride,Ringwood Fortyniner, and a guest ale from the Hogs Back Brewery. Worth a visit if you want to impress the girl friend with your knowledge of 'out of the way' pubs that everybody knows about.'

Visited this place a lot, largely because it's pretty guaranteed you can get reasonable food all day and for a "chain" pub it has a pretty good atmosphere. In addition it generally has a decent guest ale and typically Ringwood Fortyniner on. More of a functional pub but good nonetheless.

Wow what a great pub- so nice to visit! Would recommend!! Great ales and food - friendly staff! Car park can get busy though - arrive early.

Popped in here today for Sunday lunch, and sat in the nice little patio area near the entrance. Atmosphere was good because of the sunny weather (which, lets face it, has been a rarity this summer). Good choice of beers on with Courage Best,Fullers London Pride,Ringwood Fortyniner, and a guest ale from the Hogs Back Brewery the choice to be had on this particular day. Had the Roast, which although not excessive, was still very tasty, and a toffee and pear tart for dessert. Again, very nice. Prices are a little bit higher than some places, but when your this close to all the yachts down the road, it's no surprise really. Overall, a good pub. Will visit again.

A few years back we used to lunch occasionally at the Fox & Hounds and I was sure that on re-visiting the Lone Barn I would be able to post a glowing review of our latest meal. I was wrong.
To be fair the setting is pleasant, the pub is child friendly, and the service is satisfactory (although not great). We dined as a family of 4, the adults ordering breaded whitebait and breaded Camberbert starters respectively, and the children each having a child-portion of the Sunday roast (beef). The staff offered to serve the children's meals at the same time as our starters and made a note of this on our order. Our starters were delicious, but our (very hungry) childrens meals didnt arrive until our main course was served.
For mains both adults ordered the lamb cutlets in red wine sauce (at 10.33 a head). And this is where it all went horribly wrong. The food was extremely disappointing, to put it mildly. Our lamb cutlets consisted of more fat than meat, the (three) sauted new potatoes were burnt, and the tasteless carrots and tablespoon-worth of cabbage served as vegetables seemed to be a complete afterthought. The childrens meals werent much better. The roast beef was tough and extremely dry, same token carrot and cabbage for vegetables, and mash that tasted more like mashed butter than mashed potato. Only the roast potatoes and Yorkies seemed to have gone down the hatch without a hassle.
The treacle pudding ordered as dessert was delicious and did manage to remove the taste of the awful main meal from the palette.
But never again. Although I would not consider the prices to be extortionate should the meals have been prepared to a satisfactory standard we will most definitely not be risking our hard-earned cash on a meal memorable only for its shortcomings.
