18th century pub with exposed stone walls, flagstone floors and a fireplace in the dining room with a date of 1740. Last Monday afternoon's pint of Landlord was poor with a distinctive caramel taste and easily the worst pint of my week in the Dales. Boltmaker and Knowle Spring were the other 2 Timothy Taylor offerings. The landlady was also rather miserable although she cheered up when we took our empty glasses back. Little wonder there were only 3 other people inside.

We liked the beer in here - superb condition Timothy Taylor - nearly the full range including Ram Tam and a Blonde (previously unseen).

However, it was setup solely for fining and nowhere for the drinker to sit, apart from at a few high stools at the bar.

Strange atmosphere of people murmuring, afraid to not talk too loudly.

Not what we wanted or expected really, but I am sure the food was excellent.

Excellent Dales village pub - no more to be said.

Stopped off on Saturday on a trip around The Dales for some food. Weren't sure whether to choose between The Blue Bell Inn or here but a sign outside the Blue Bell, welcoming mucky women amongst others, was the deciding factor for us. Timothy Taylors place with three choices: Landlord, Golden Best and Ram Tam. Had a pint of Ram Tam which was fine, as was the food and staff were pleasant. Quite quiet in terms of atmosphere but that is perhaps to be expected at 2pm on a Saturday.

I stayed here many years back, and had a fantastic time.

Have popped in more recently, and I'm glad to see it's still a fine place.

Visited in July and it's just as good as on previous visits. We think the food is the best in Kettlewell, (it's where the locals go for a night out) and beers well kept. Lanlord and staff very pleasant.
It's only drawback for the drinker is that it's more hotel than pub so lacks the ambience of the other 2 village pubs.

Tried to stay overnight in Grassington, but there were no vacancies anywhere, so we decided to try Kettlewell. The Racehorses looked to be the nicest of the three pubs, so we booked in for the night. I think we made the right choice. Timmy Taylors beer superb (Landlord, Best Bitter, Golden Best) and the meal I had was possibly the best pub meal I've ever had (and I've had loads!). Steak and Ale pudding since you ask. Room comfortable, landlord & staff friendly, we will definately come here again.

This is a great pub - TT Landlord & Tetleys kept in superb condition, and friendly staff to serve you. We visited all 3 pubs in Kettlewell and the Racehorses is comfortably the best for atmosphere, service and quality of beer. Although we didn't eat there, a lot of customers did - a busy pub is always a good sign.

Seen as being the poorest pub in the village and always seems to be quieter than the Blue Bell opposite.
However whilst the interior is tired an really dated, the beer - Timothy Taylor Best, Landlord and Golden Best was on top form.
On a sunny day there can be a no better place than on the decking at the back looking at the river. The food was ok.

The Racehorses suffers to my mind, from being just over the road from the Blue Bell, When we went in, it was almost deserted, everyone in the village being sat outside the Blue Bell.

And that's a bit unfair, because the Racehorses is a perfectly fine pub; if the Blue Bell wasn't there it would be the obvious choice in the village. The beer's good (The night we were in they had a guest beer on: "Finest Hour" in honour of the RAF's 90th anniversary) and the food looked decent, and it's comfortable, maybe a little posher than the Blue Bell.

The Racehorses is a 'hotel' in Kettlewell. The bar is nicely laid out and looks homely. Its a Timothy Taylor's pub and makes a good contrast to the Blue Bell across the road. The ale is good and well-kept and the food is delicious with good, but not oversized portions. Of the three pubs in Kettlewell, I would put it second behind the Blue Bell, which is livelier and with a better atmosphere. The Racehorses is a little quiet. However, I would recommend it.
