Another new pub for me in Watford. I'd been to the Estcourt Arms before a couple of years ago. But I'd given this place a miss. It was very busy prior to a Watford football game, with the rugby also showing. Fuller's London Pride & Tring Moongazer were the two real ales. The bar is L-shaped. But moving around was difficult, as it was so busy. Service was efficient, given how busy it was. Comfortable place. But I prefer the more traditional Estcourt Arms opposite.

I agree with Captain Ralph ( last review). Good pub with real ale and footy. When i visited Pride and a Tring offering. Would recommend and return.

Good pub the Welly, been run by the same people for years and years and their children now seem to be the barstaff!
Good selection of ales, usually a Tring beer, Pride and another. Prices are keen for a southern pub.
Busy on match days and rugby is popular here. Food and B&B accomodation available and one of the best in town nowadays.

I quite like this place. Small boozer with a local beer plus Pride always kept well. Food is good too. Sport always on. It's one I pop in now and again but not as regular as some others I like, but still worth popping in, especially if you want a local beer.

Two ales on offer - London Pride and Jack O'Legs from the Tring Brewery. Pint and a half of the latter cost 4.05 and was in decent enough nick.
Two TVs showing Sky Sports and signed rugby shirts on the wall from Martin Johnson and Lawrence Dallaglio, indicating the rugby friendly nature of the pub.
Not overly big - almost felt like stepping into someone's front room, but a decent enough boozer close to the station.
Cheap food on offer too, if you fancy it.

Went in here, like the Estcourt Tavern, for the 1st time last Saturday. London Rride and Buntingfords August Ale on offer. Tried the Buntingsford's which I really liked. Place had a bit of history (see photo's on the walls) about it and a friendly atmosphere. Barmaid was a bit of an airhead but was friendly enough. The locals that I spoke to were welcoming so I will call in again when in the area.

A half decent Jack o legs was the only ale on offer to many lager filled oafs in for my liking Ale did seem a bit cold I guess thats down to the weather as I like it a degree or two warmer

Used to be a reasonable pub but hadn't been for a while until last night. This time the staff were unfriendly and downright offensive. I shall not be going back until I hear it's been sold to someone who can run a pub properly.

This is a pretty decent pub these days. I have been in maybe ten times over the last couple of years, usually lunchtime or early evenings. Gets a good mix of people. Small range of real ales but kept well and often one from smaller localish breweries such as Tring. The interior is clean and tidy. There is a nice patio area out front that is a bit of a sun trap and has sturdy tables and chairs. I would recommend this pub.

I'm not a regular but it seems a decent no-nonsense lad's boozer. I've never seen any trouble despite this and the service is pretty good. Not really a real ale sort of place though..

A better pub than it used to be and the interior is now quite pleasant. Have not had a proper meal in here but the meals look good and plentiful. The bar snacks on the other hand I found to be microwaved and decidedly uninspiring.
They could do with paying a bit more attention to the real ales, like making sure the first one of the day is pulled through properly and adding a notch or two to the temperature.
The pub certainly looks after its sports fans with a number of plasma screens showing different channels but this investment doesnt seem to be reciprocated. The last time I was there the pub miraculously filled up with regulars 10 minutes before a big game kicked off. Admittedly many had probably been dragged out Christmas shopping with the missus.

A few minutes walk to Watford national rail station.
Went here to watch Chelsea vs United season clincher as I had heard there were a number of big screens. I wasn't disappointed - there were indeed lots of screens and we won 3-0. Nice interior and leather sofas. Simple food menu, could do with another veggie option (even it's just a burger), but what we had was nice.
Beer is also important and it fares quite well. They had Rebellion Mutiny (rare, good condition), Courage Directors (good condition) and London Pride. Hopefully there's always a guest beer on.
Recommended.

I have been there twice,in 1998 and 2000, and what I remember especially is the wonderful British breakfasts and the personal attention of the old lady in the kitchen.Time goes by very quickly but my stay there will never be forgotten. JUANMI from SPAIN

This pub is lovely and the landlady is really friendly, a genuine change in Watford. It has been refurbished without losing any of its original charm (like so many other pubs in Watford). A nice pub for a relaxing few hours with a bunch of mates.

Go to the Estcourt Arms?? Not sure how drunk Millay was!! Really good clean interior - loads of screens, leather sofas and decent music. Family run and never any hassle.

Just had a total referb and now looks fantastic. Has 4 huge plasma screens and is always busy on big game days for either football or rugby, it is now the best pub in Watford for watching sport.

Looking a bit tired now, although the saloon bar area is nicely laid out with the emphasis on food. Not a great deal of atmosphere, standard uninspired beer offering of basic quality. To sum the pub up in one word, bland. My advice is, gaze out of the window at the Estcourt Arms.drink up.. and go there.
