It's had a make-over. It had a wide range of taps including some cask ales.
It's quite smart, and busy.
If that's what you want, then you probably wouldn't want the Crown and Trumpet anyway. If pushed, then I'd dare say that the feeling would be mutual, so there's no harm done if so.

The Swan is not a destination I will ever return to. Tried it dozens of times over the last decade and it hasn't changed. Lousy food, rotten staff, average beer. Go to the Crown & Trumpet if you like proper pubs.

The Crown and Trumpet was closed at 1530 on a Monday Afternoon at the end of March so we ended up in The Swan. We sat outside in the pleasant sunshine whilst I consumed two good pints of UBU ( is it pronounced "yooboo" or is it initials u.b.u. ). Staff were pleasant as she was chatted up by the man seated at the bar. A bit gloomy inside and it's a bit of a trek to the loos. Not a rigorous test of this pub but I would happily return for another try. They did however find my wife's lost walking stick two days later which she'd left on the back of the chair so they get an extra mark for that.

First impressions are so important, and our initial impression was not good at The Swan on our weekday evening visit. The rather unwelcoming bar staff should have been an omen, as although the restaurant staff were much more accommodating, the food was very disappointing. Undercooked gristly steak (ordered as medium done), stringy chips (like those from MacDonalds) and hard, underdone vegetables. The steak and mushroom pie was the only saving grace before being served a well presented, but bland and tasteless cheesecake for desert (which took an age to order and another age to arrive). They're far better places in Broadway (where we were staying on holiday). Give this one a miss, our impression is The Swan has become complacent with the tourist trade.

I went in with two female Spanish friends and the attitude from the lady serving, towards them was absolutely disgraceful. It was fortunate for me that I had not spoken first as it allowed me to notice the change when I spoke in unbroken English. As this pub is in a big tourist area I suggest they train the staff so even if they do not like people from overseas, it is not so blatently obvious.
