absolutely love this place, they have a vast selection and whilst occasionally things are out of stock, it doesn't detract. Great atmosphere, not for everyone I agree. Definitely a thinking man or woman's bar. I laughed at the previous poster's comment that the detractors would be happier in unicorn, and I wholeheartedly agree! It can be expensive, but it's because of the product they sell. Some of the beers are very unusual. There is however a wide range of priced beers. If price is your main consideration when out for a drink, rather than what you are actually drinking, then you are best elsewhere. Oh and it's wheat crunchies - chosen for their salty taste to oppose the beer!

This place is part of the european / belgian trio close together in ALtrincham. I have been in from the beginning. I have taken friends in and they either love it or hate it. It is a "marmite" place, as reflected in the other comments.
It has something slightly different to offer that the other 2. It is warm and cosy in the cellar in winter, but it is rather dark and this might be an issue for some when your eyesight is poor and you are trying to read the menu (like me). You can sit outside if its nice weather, but there is not much outside space.
I find the staff and Wyn the owner very pleasant and knowledgable.
I would recommend you get the tram to Alty and try all 3.

love this place, fortunately it isn't for everyone as they don't do a 2 for 1, happy hour and bangin choons. I reckon the ney sayers on here would be happier in the unicorn. Atmosphere is like a 19th Century french brothel, not a sticky floored nightclub with cinema carpets. Great selection of beers, nothing i have ever chosen has been out of stock. Can talk and be heard. Very knowledgeable staff.

Well, contrary to other reviewers' experiences, I have nothing but positives to take away from a very enjoyable afternoon. Yes, a bit pricey, but you're getting what you pay for. Nice relaxed atmosphere, very friendly and knowledgeable owner, served by a very pretty and charming young lady who knew exactly what was and wasn't available on the menu. Top notch and I look forward to a repeat visit.

No what we expected.Rather pricey and like previous comments, quite a few beers out of stock. We felt obliged to stay once the fuss had been made to find us a table and we sampled the complimentary hoola hoops while choosing.
Not somewhere I'd go very often and not for the whole night,as much as I couldn't afford it as anything else.
Was half expecting Vincent Price to pop out

Disappointing, they advertise that they sell 250 beers. However, i have been in there several times now, and it is sad to report that their claim seems to be an advertising gimmick just to entice you downstairs. The reality and choice available are somewhat different.

Quite nice new bar, owned by Wayne who used to run Le Trappiste, he still like to sample the beers though, he was in there drunk again the other week. We left as it's slightly embarrassing when he tries to talk to you in that silly accent that he adopts.

A good selection of beers though if you like sitting in a dungeon.
